The main purpose of music is to add joy and happiness to peoples lives. That’s why all these old songs almost always make you feel happy at the end of them. I think the younger generation has kind of forgotten that.
Hell, i'm so old, i bought this album when it came out in 1973, loved it ever since. The whole album is great, and my favorite of the Doobies. This is my first video of yours i have seen and get a kick out of youngsters discovering Classic Rock. On a side note, Asia is cute ! :)

The Doobie Bros. say that there are enough bands out there singing about sad things. They are decidedly upbeat in the music and determined to play shows that are ‘happy’.
The core of the Doobie Brothers -- Pat Simmons, Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, and John McFee -- are currently touring (July 2022). These guys are in their 70s, and they still kick ass.
@@bryansimmons4550 Huh?? There is *plentiful* acoustic guitar throughout this song, including in the intro. I'm not sure how you could have missed it, unless you were just listening on a tinny phone speaker.

Ah the Doobie Brothers! Flash back to highschool for me! Man o man they're as good as I remember. So oo oo smooothe, all instruments, the vocals , the harmony...just gold!!
Whenever i hear this song it always makes me think of the summer in 1973. The early Doobie Bothers, their first five albums but their 2nd through 5th specifically, were their absolute best. They were pretty much _the_ rhythm rock and roll band of the 1970s. Tremendous rock and roll and we teenagers loved them back in the 70s! And great lead guitars and vocals. Everything about them was great and they had so many hits you heard them almost every hour back then on AM radio! "Dark Eyed Cajun Woman" from "The Captain and Me" should be your next reaction from the Doobies!

The Doobie`s-"Black Water" is cool. & "Listen To The Music" & "Takin` It To The Streets". All nice if you decide to check out more Doobie`s.
This is a song almost everybody in Sweden who has been dancing has heard. DJs have played it nightly since it came out, but very few people know who it's by or what the name of the song is - they usually guess "Without Love" - but it still fills the dancefloor. So, it may not be disco, but it sure works on the dancefloor.
This was when the Doobie Brothers was a good rock and roll band before Michael McDonald joined them. When he joined was also the time commercialism started to creep into their sound

Long Train Running is a metaphor for life itself ... It keeps on going down the tracks until the tracks run out ! Ya got to keep on pushing til the end of the line !
Tom and Pat said they'd play the riff for 4 years before the words were decided. They made the words up everynight. And this is not disco, we jammed to this and did some dancing
Thank it reacting to this song. My hubby and I are going to see them this summer in Toronto, yippee! Almost 50 years ago we both listened to this song. Wow, I guess we’re both that old. ❤️🇨🇦

Great reaction and selection you 2. Don't worry about trying to figure it out. This music has been with me since my early teen years (64 now) and I haven't figured it out. Most times we were stoned anyways and didn't care. God Bless and a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family's.
The "train" refers to the guitar riff (& the band) continually plays that mimics the sound of a train. You can see blues players w/ a six string acoustic, in the style of "the train" - chookah chookah
Doobie Brothers had at least two incarnations. One BEFORE Michael McDonald, and the other WITH Michael McDonald. He had a HUGE influence on their sound. A good influence in my opinion.
The Doobie Brothers .Wow.They did the lyrics for Long Train Running over music that was played as a jam session in their concerts for years.Tom Johnston wrote it and plays the Harmonica solo. It is done just right.I never get tired of listening to it.Reminds me of freight trains moving through our small town. From the sound of the train moving over the tracks the horn belting out a warning signal absolutely brilliantly done. The thumping of that bass is bad ass.I Love It.
Mid to late 80s had me working a tour that landed us in Nashville for a couple nights with a layover before Memphis. The funky rithym with the guitar and the piano is the sound of steel wheels hitting cold hard steel rail joints as a freight train moving fast pounding through to...... GOD knows where......"THE STEEL RAIL COLD AND HARD...."
My favorite Doobie Brothers song, before Michael McDonald joined. The guitar riff is fire, and present throughout the song. The Captain and Me was one of the biggest albums of 1973, keeping the true rock going.
