    Faye, hunny!! I’m a current F2 and honestly what you were saying about professionalism I felt so the same as an F1. When you naturally have a bubbly personality it just comes out in your practice, it just does. BUT I honestly think most patients really appreciate a doctor that has a friendly and cheery personality like yours and mine (hehe), don’t underestimate the positive impact it has, you’re smashing it !! ❤

      Exactly. If I see myself as a patient which I have been a lot of time I would chose a friendly doctor. If I am in a middle of health chaos I would also want a friend. And I have gone to many doctors. But personally I only remembered the ones who gave medical and life advices like a strict friend.

    I do want a human being though, your personality is so incredibly refreshing in ER.. I totally get the professionality part BUT sometimes when you are scared and stressed - you do not want a robot - your personality is incredible for being a doctor.
    Also, seeing the cogs working is refreshing and being slow is refreshing - showing that you CARE!
    Its funny because all the parts you are pulling yourself up on are what set you apart. 💖

    I’ve spent a lot of time in hospital and tbh I lose my shit and clam up when I have to talk to doctors, the only time I’ve managed to actually open up to them and tell them how I’m feeling was when they stepped out of their professional doctor self and were humans with medical knowledge instead and I truly appreciated when a doctor said “hey, I’m sorry I don’t really know what’s going on with you, I’m going to refer you to xyz” and that’s when I felt the safest bc I knew they were being honest ❤️

    I’m going into a final year of Health Information Management (undergraduate). A lot of people do not understand the effort and expertise that goes into changing medical records systems or any clinical data systems. I feel for you Faye as person on the front line whose workflow is completely changed!

    I’m currently working as an FY2 and I really think a lot of patients appreciate a bubbly and personable doctor- I would not try to change your personality at all, it sounds like it’s very obvious you care deeply about each of your patients. Also I don’t think you need to work on your poker face- I think people can subconsciously sense if you see unsure of what is going on (as I often am). I think there is a lot of strength in being able to say to a patient ‘I’m not sure what is going on and I am doing x,y,z to find out’ or ‘I’m not sure I’m going to check with a more senior doctor’. I’ve always found it’s much better to be honest with patients about when I am unsure and explaining to them what I am doing to try to find out (I.e speaking to someone else or doing more tests). I think it builds trust as they can see I’m being honest and not hiding anything. Whatever stage of your career there is always going to be something you won’t know for certain and I think it creates better healthcare for the patient if you let them know this instead of trying to fool them that you are an omniscient medical being.

    Love the chatty vlogs! Just a small piece of advice based on your chats! Grab a clothes steamer whilst it’s Black Friday and they’re cheap! As a fellow ADHDer I always hate the feeling of crinkled clothes but never iron! A steamer is convenient but also kinda fun 😂 and you don’t need to go through the effort of setting up an ironing board, dodging the cable of the iron and just the hassle!!!

    It's important for all of us to remember that doctors are human too and that there is a shortage but they are trying to do the best that they can. I get patients being upset because it is annoying waiting for hours BUT it is not the doctors fault! Side note: I think it depends on the patient but I would want a human casual friendly doctor because I know that doctors are human and you already don't feel good in the hospital so a friendly face goes a long way ❤

    Sorry for possibly weird wording, I don't know how to say it in Englisch - but the amount of spinning your washing machine does also affects your clothes being crinkled. Less spinning, less crinkles. Maybe you'd want to take that into account as well. Love your vlogs and your emotional rambles! ❤❤

    I'm the odd one out when it comes to healthcare because when I hear the words 'theres a locum' o'r there's a trainee/ newly qualified is that okay? I'm so happy because they're more thorough and have often better knowledge about things because they haven't gotten into a routine or stuck in their own ways of doing things. All they know is the masses of knowledge they have been taught over the last 5 years and they often miss things less.
    An example was I had a cough for 6+ weeks, went and saw a locum and he sent me for an urgent chest x-ray tested me for asthma etc. he then gave me acid reflux tablets and it worked! I then went back to my GP at home to get a refill of these tablets because my cough was back after not having them for a few day and the Dr there said oh I don't believe that actually works you don't need them I'm not giving you a prescription... 🙃

    I would personally disagree about wanting an omnipotent doctor. It has taken me 7 years to get a endometriosis diagnosis and the doctors who acted like they knew everything/couldn’t be wrong are one of the reasons it took so long. I would far FAR rather a human told me that they couldn’t be sure, but their best assessment is ‘X’. Just putting forwards another perspective 🩵

  • @Aditi-zs9jk
    @Aditi-zs9jk 7 месяцев назад

    I think being nervous vs being a human is a different thing. Being nervous can be scary and maybe you don’t want a nervous doctor but as a patient most people definitely want a human doctor. I think a lot of people recognise that doctors are gonna be nervous but working on your poker face might help. A lot of judgement could just be based on you being a junior doctor and the patient knowing that.
