Mark, this is what makes you from my perspective, the best RUclipsr on auto related subjects. You have an unwavering commitment to be honest. None of us are perfect, but many who are doing what you're doing are nauseatingly pro manufacturer than pro consumer.
BMW's reliability has certainly improved significantly. I had the 730 D (2017), which I sold in 2023. It had only one electrical problem, and BMW fixed it for free. Otherwise, it had a zero issue. I sold it because I moved from the UK to Canada. I had always felt you were overly critical in your review of European cars. That's why I stopped watching your program.
Mark, I've been following your channel for a few years now, and I'm very happy to say that your advice on BMW's have been spot on. I have a 2016 7 series 740i with the b-58 engine. It's been a great ride. No problems. I intend to keep it for at least 4 to 5 more years. This is due partly because you have educated me on my B-58 engine, Thank You so much for that. Please continue to move forward and above all, keep telling it as you see it.
Thank you so much for your support and it’s great to hear that the car and engine have worked well. This is the sweet spot in the brand right now. I would love to hear updates on it as well.
Every video you say “life’s too short to drive boring cars” We own a boring BMW 320i and we own a 2022 M240i. The M240i is one of the most exhilarating cars you can drive. Because when its all said and done, life really is too short…love your channel and thanks for the honesty.
My 2nd car is a 2014 BMW X5, it has a 100k miles on it. I bought it last year and so far the car has been good. It had some oil leak issues which cost a bit to fix but I was expecting these to know issues going in. But now it run just perfectly.
I've been following your channel for a few months and just recently picked up a used M440i largely because of your comments about the B58 engine. Hope you're right, Brother! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing, and appreciate the vulnerability. Really enjoy your channel! In a similar spot. Was gifted two BMW’s from family members in past. 1997 528i (poorly taken care of) and 2001 540i (meticulously well taken care of) both at around 100k. At that point, as with any car, can become money pits real quick. The 528i was especially. Swore off BMW and bought 2010 GS350 awd in 2013. Been a real treat for all reasons mentioned in your previous videos, but now 180k on 13 yr old car. Now Debating 2020-21 GX460 or BMW X5 (b58), and gone back and forth. At end of day I think ride is better in BMW and we shall see… but as someone once said “life’s to busy to drive boring cars!”
We really loved our 35d as well for about 120000 miles and then the wheels started to fall off. With that said they are great vehicles when they are good. Solid engines
Mark, it takes a CLASS act to admit being wrong. I currently have 3 BMWs, a 750i, Z4 M 40i and a XB7, all newer versions and they have been totally reliable They are all VERY complex machines so there is a lot to go wrong. . I had an X7 for three years and the only problem I ever had with it was the start stop cancel switch died. I've had all the German Ultra luxury brands plus a Rolls and have had more problems with the Rolls and several Mercedes than I've ever had with my BMWs. None of the other brands has been as satisfying to drive as the BMWs and that includes the Porsche's I've had. I just read the BMWs reiability was third only to Lexus and Toyota. Better than all the other German brands. Don't give up on them yet as the newer versions are truly outstanding cars, much better than the prior versions.
I don’t own a BMW, Toyota or Honda, but Toyota and Honda get free passes. My dad was saying Toyota is the best, and he had a new Rav 4. It had this awful leaking problem, brand new, and the floor of the back kept getting soaked. He tried to get Toyota to fix it and it kept happening. When I brought it up, he was like, “well, things happen.” But dad, when any other brand has a problem like that, it’s crap?! We had a good laugh after, and we agreed ALL brands have their problems. My dad now owns his first Subaru 😊. In the next 12 months, I might get my first BMW.
You aren’t wrong. Visit Nigeria & see many BMWs parked or abandoned at mechanic workshops. I’d love it’s powerful engines and designs but reliability is very poor here compared to it’s rivals like Mercedes Benz. You are right my guy.
Hi from Nevada. I own and drive 4 vehicles. 2019 Lexus GX 460, 2021 BMW X3 2.0L Turbo B48 Engine, 2022 RAV4 XLE Hybrid, 2023 RAV4 SE Hybrid. The 2021 BMW X3 have been trouble free. I do recommend using brand name premium fuel always on all vehicle and getting the oil changes and other maintenance on time and not driving the vehicles too hard. I baby all my vehicles. Lot of people will ask was the vehicle well maintained but I'd also say was the vehicle well driven. In 2023 I would buy a new BMW any day over a new Mercedes-Benz. Good video. 👍👍
Mark, your reviews of B 48s was enough to convince me to buy my first BMW, a G20 330i over a 2022 Audi A4. It takes a real man to admit his faults, but there were no faults in your assessment of the G20. Thank you for your honest assessments.
i love the BMW no matter how many issues mine had. if i care for mine well, drive it properly, and follow maintenance schedule, I had no problems with it. It’s a matter of choice. I will always love BMW. ❤️ yes life is too short to drive boring cars. Mine will always be BMW.
I had the X2 a couple of years ago with no issues, then the X3M40i and loved it. Now I just bought a X4M40i that I had built. No issues with any of them and honestly I feel like BMW is the most fun and exciting, or at least one of the most exciting. I had a new 2023 Porsche Macan which just didn't have the power of my BMW's. I tried the Macan S with the twin turbo V6 and it had no where near the power and acceleration of the BMW. I also feel like BMW is the most reliable of the German brands. True that Toyota and Lexus are reliable and last a long time, but they are also a little boring. In a day and age where everyone is going to the 2.0 turbo 4's, it is nice to still have the choice of buying a true driver's car. Great video and I appreciate your honesty and as always, enjoy your videos and the great info that you provide.
The oversized grille is the ugliest design BMW ever came up up to date. Just because a few odd individuals like it or getting use to it does not change the fact that it's ugly.
I think the idea to not change your oil until like 10,000 miles will cause any car to wear out. This would with super high mileage is something to be discerning about!
.....................Hmmmmmmmmmmmm Lease ouch ! a HUGR RIP off...Do Not lease.....there are not enough write offs in the world to off set your HUGE RIP OFF LOSSES ......wake up!
B48 and B58 are solid reliable engines and can’t go wrong with either of those these days IMO. and if getting pre owned one make sure service history is done right and on time and you should be solid
I understand what you are saying about now verses the past I’ve only owned one BMW an M-5 6 cylinder manual transmission I can’t remember the year 1988 or 1990 I bought it used and had zero problems with it just normal maintenance oil tires brakes I absolutely love the way it drove and how quick it felt off the line it was like a GTO except the M5 could stop and turn and hold five adults Except for the M badges on the outside it looked like a normal five series it was a great sleeper I wish I still had it You are the best RUclipsr out there for autos we all like to own I don’t think you were wrong at all you give very well researched reports that I enjoy Bravo My best wishes always from Las Vegas Craig
Thank you very much Craig, I really appreciate that. I definitely try to share my values and experiences so it is genuine and from the heart. I also happen to be a car nut, so it’s easy. Like your older BMW yes I agree some of them were just so great that they did not scream with all sorts of badges and wings and decals and spoilers to be cool. They just were.
Since 2005, most German cars have become to mechanically and electronically complicated and hence problems compared to Toyota, Lexus, Honda and Mazda. When you get older you realise the ultimate car for reliability is a boring Toyota Corolla 1800cc 6 speed manual. I see them in Thailand doing 1 Million kms (620,000 miles) on the same engine and gearbox. No German car will do that.
You are right, a Simple base Toyota is destined for huge miles while a complex luxury car is not, and Toyota in general has amazing reliability, but they too are now going turbo 4 instead of NA V6 and now turbo V6 instead of some of the older NA V8 engines
No you’re not wrong about the buck tooth grille. The reason is that you simply don’t slap on a design from the old 6 series hoping it “will work” when in fact the designers needed to EVOLVE the damn buck tooth grille, not time travel and slap it on. Or, should have stuck with the buck tooth from way back and evolved it like Bugatti did. That’s why it’s so damn polarizing. I must say the build quality YEA it’s a major major improvement and is top notch these days. But the grille .. some things are better left in the past.
This guy is a lowkey BMW fun. Just know that. In addition to that some few people can get lucky with some cars. Most suffers. In my area people rather buy Subarus over bmw for reliability issues. Because the majority who buys them suffers.
@@boxoffisa the more fancy the more problems. That is why Toyota has basically no performance cars they all require high maintenance. Part of owning one. That is why especially Japanese rice burners are so reliable and literally loved.
Scotty Kilmer has been panning BMWs for years, and as an owner of several BMWs myself, I got to agree with him. I have no idea if they’ve upped their game these days because I’m now and Audi and Toyota owner, it would take a lot to get me back
That’s totally fair. I have a long standing experience and ownership with the brand and then had a couple of sour moments as a result of a couple specific duds and the service model honestly was something that charred my backend.
I think it’s knowing what you are getting into especially with a used one (as there is a reason for a lot of the depreciation). I have a 2012 X5 (n55), no air suspension, bought in 2020 . Did I have to drop $5K into that after I bought that (water pump, all 3 gaskets)? Sure did. Did I know this was likely before I bought it? Yep….But no major problems after that so far.
BMW is using too much plastic in their engine bays. Cheap couplings. BMW can do better. Imho. They charge a premium, customers should get a great car. I guess if you have a lot of money it doesn’t matter as much.
Very humble of you for doing this with great humility. You know when I was in my German class my teacher told me the general philosophy of German engineering is being innovative. They will find out the kinks in the first couple generations and refine upon it. Germans love to work on problem solving and this is what I see from BMW. Only time may tell but we are truly blessed with the current generation of BMW's because of how refined they are. They are much more reliable and do not rely on another company ex. Audi -> VW. At the end of the day for me, get the car you want and invest/research if you really want to own it. I really love the F82 gen but knowing yes it's very reliable, I wouldn't want to get my hands on the S55. But instead I'd rather go on the G80 with the S58 because I can realistically see myself working on that car. As you look through the BMW generations you'll see risk and improvement on reliability based on the risk they took. Thank you for the wonderful channel and being true to yourself.
Ive owned an E92 325i 3 series for two years now, only thing ive had to do is oil filter housing and vanos solonoid gaskets. Everything else is been fine. I absolutely love the brand and admire how bmw builds these cars to feel like a CAR. I think people see the high performance ones like the 335i or M3 and automatically think all beamers are unreliable and break down. I don't believe bmw builds them to be unreliable on purpose. Naturally aspirated bmws are great fun daily drivers.
I love my BMW! For a 4cyl 3 series it sure does ride very smooth, and it’s quick enough for me. I’m a 32 year old male so my driving reckless days are pretty much over. I like to cruise now.
I came from Accord->Santafe->Camry->golf GTI->Mazda 6->Rogue->XC90->F150-> GLC->X5 currently own 24 x5. this thing is very well built. every car that I drove from had some issues/recalls as well before 50k miles. I might sell my tesla and buy M3 for my daily drive
Great channel. Your unfo really help rationalize the emotional from the quantitative of the car selection process, then add the subtle undercurrents of manufacturer and dealer. It's a murky soup, but the way you talk about it, becomes quite clear and gives people like me hope, that i can probably sort through it. Thanks!
Just because BMW fixed some of its reliability problems doesn't mean you were wrong about their older models. BMW's are improving reliability while Toyota's and Honda's are now having problems. Like BMW, Alfa-Romeo used to have serious reliability problems that they addressed successfully. That's what good automobile companies do.
Compared to Maserati, Mercedes and Audi the reliability on the B48 and B58 is solid. My “N” series Bimmers were disasters. The replacement cost for air suspension is still out of control, with dealers wanting $10k on the 7 series.
Hey guys Im looking to buy a 2013 328i. It is very well maintained super clean in and out and it has 100k miles on it. I have a good deal on it but tbh people are scaring me away because of reliability issues. I love BMW though its been a dream for me to get one. Should I get it?
I can understand your new found love for the newer engines and transmission... but what about the 2014-2019 cars that are N20/N55 engines, be that the 320i/330i or others... still hate those?
Love your channel. I'm thinking about buying a new 840i Gran Coupe with the base B58 and 8 speed auto trans. That or the Audi A8, not S8. Recommendations, Mark?
Yes you were wrong. BMW are one of the best built cars ever. Some issues yes just like other car brands. I will always drive a BMW. Thanks for coming on and admiting you were a bit hard on the BMW brand.
My 2012 335is (n54) has been a huge money pitt. So i stopped daily driving it and now im fixing it up COMPLETELY, already have spent more than 8k in maintanance (happily because i love my 335is, its my "dream affordable car) but now im just parking it and using it as a weekend car, it will be my long life project weekend car because i will never get rid of it❤
My Prius 2010 started burning oil at 100k miles that Toyota acknowledged but wouldn’t fix it because it was not part of a recall. Hybrids get expensive to fix down the road. With all the recent Lexus and Toyota dealer markups here in Los Angeles I bought a new 2023 BMW X3. Flawless car now with a year of ownership. I’m loving mine and even do oil changes myself every 5000 miles to be safe about the turbo issues.
Great choice did you go 40i? Great combo and I know there are some generations of Toyota with head gasket troubles line the old 3.0 V6 or some oil burners in the Camry and Prius world and it’s funny how that gets sloughed off as a …..minor just rebuild that or top the oil and monitor and move on. No car is perfect, albeit some have a better odds, anything can fail
Just tell it like what it is. Later BMWs have built-in expiry date. When you have plastic parts that come into direct contact with heat like cooling system hose connectors etc., on board computers controlling everything, what do you expect. No point of a bulletproof engine when everything around it fails in quick time.
As you said, the real TRUTH is " own BMW if you drive 15k yearly & not as daily driver"👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌......that should last any BMW for 20 years!!!!!!!!😂🤪🤪🤪🤪
When people say BMW is now "reliable" what does that mean exactly? Does that mean they don't die at 40k Miles anymore? Or do they now last 300k miles like a lexus finally?
It’s not like BMW got way more reliable, its just the other brands became less reliable (because of more complicated technology and competitive cost war). :)
I respect nothing more than a man that can admit when he is wrong. This was commendable because he is right bmw has stepped up their reliability as of late. However the buck tooth grill is ugly lol and I do like bmw but those grills ain’t it
I think you've been very honest and fair. Truth hurts sometimes. I've had the '21 X3 M40 for over a year and love it. Honestly wouldn't buy the older engines unless it's a 2nd car we know will be a project. They're great if you simply drive them like the manual says but most people don't drive them like that which is the problem really...
Ah, your video suggests the possibility that allegedly the BMW legal department took you to the woodshed, and as you say, I could be wrong. My and my family's service experiences, some even frustratingly humorous in retrospect, with various German brands drove us into the arms of Toyota and especially of Lexus, where our loyalties very likely will remain. Lest you think that I have abandoned BMW, be assured that I still have two BMW motorcycles in my garage. Cheers.
Haha, thanks but no woodshed action over here. With that said I am in a similar camp of keeping some tried and true simple wheels around while having that special driving car…or bike, around for the play time . Have a great week and thanks for reaching out
To sum it up with bmw the new B48 and 58 engines are the most reliable. The problems that bmw used to have had to of been fixed as of 2024. No way they still exist as bad
I agree. My 2019 BMW X1 has been bulletproof. Yes, it requires premium fuel and synthetic oil. Yes, new brakes are pricey. But that's a small price to pay for an SUV that's a mountain goat in the snow, handles corners with little to no body roll, refined - yet utilitarian cabin, ample boot space, and compact enough to handle tight spaces and a small garage.
I have owned 4 BMW’s. One 4 cylinder, one 6 cylinder and two 8 cylinder models… great fun to drive…terrible reliability. The one we have now is the 550 msport. Maintenance costs are ridiculous! I will not buy another!
I thinking about getting a bmw myself as a 2nd car,I like the 335i and how it looks, and I prefer a manual transmission, which lexus doesn't offer in any model, cudos to bmw for keeping the manual, rear wheel drive cars alive.
@@WayToManyAssassins will consider, the only down fall with 330 would be low on power,i don't need 500 hp,but 325-350 would be nice to play with on the streets.
Im happy for you that change your opinion about Bmw but still some people will hate and say that is unreliable or that they are piece of junk. Which is shame. Sure if you don’t like bmw that's ok. Not everyone can love the same brand. But at least these people don’t make fun of this brand. Yes before 15 years was nightmare but that doesn't mean that htey are worst brand
@@WayToManyAssassins I like to make a correction….. ONLY if I lived in Germany and bought it German MADE. (Mercedes) the same with BMW…… I only buy it if made in THAT country. If GM ever get their engine and transmissions problems together on their Cadillac brand, they would out sell BMW and Mercedes put together. 🙂
I have watched several of your videos and have mostly thought that you were wrong about BMWs. My spouse and I have owned 7 BMWs (we currently own an X4 M comp) with no issues.
I think most of the GDI + turbo engines are prone to failure after 100k miles. Just too much pressure and most engine makers just don’t design properly for it. Let’s see if Honda 1.5 turbos hold up as long as the naturally aspirated ones. I really doubt it.
Mark… I enjoy watching all your content and take your research into all vehicle aspects. Whether it’s BMW or a Zonda. BMW builds great vehicles but they need to definitely address all the bs they put in to their vehicles too. They totally can then and now have or had those faults completely corrected then and now. Their vehicles are timelines pieces that’s forsure. You’re not wrong in your stance what so ever. Keep up the great content you deliver. Life’s too short to drive boring cars.
@@ECPP they do. Maybe they could switch to stainless lines or better gasket quality. But non the less like many cars as such as the BMW or Infiniti/370Z’s they’re all great cars
I don't understand why BMW brings so much conversation around. I live in Europe, it's the same situation but I have driven around 900.000 kms in several BMW s with a lot of fun and no major issues at all. So....
Just buy a Toyota or Lexus and be done with problems..... and no you were not wrong. You did bitch a lot about the parts and how ridiculous price they were and how hard they were to work on. So yes you were correct.
You had mentioned on several occasions in the past that later BMWs had improved significantly. No apologies needed. I would be interested to know whether Alfa is truly the consistently unreliable car that it’s made out to be.
From what I've seen you usually zero in on certain models and/or years when describing their short comings. While I don't always agree with your assessments (from personal experience) you're generally spot on. The only thing you MAY be wrong about is IF you lump the whole brand in for the faults of particular models/engines/years, which I rarely see you do.
I personally think that any car, if you trully like it (for those few/many positive things), you can mentain it and use it daily in a decent cost way. Regarding any car manufacture...we must have in mind that not all the components are made or fully controlled by them (if you will look on a idrive headunit...you willl find that is built by the same manufacture as a from other car brands....brakes the same, displays the same...wiring the same, damping isolator the same ...etc etc) . Is exactly as comparing 996 carrera with 996 Turbo. In conclusion?...Yes, I think you will get a newer BMW.
Awesome great thanks for sharing and I appreciate that . I know sometimes the quality control can be difficult if it is a 3rd party part. Maintenance is also very important, some cars can tolerate a little neglect while others not so much. Have a great week
Now that you have changed your mind on BMWs, I might consider looking at an X5 when I start shopping for a new SUV next year. I like the looks of the new Lexus GX though. 19:26

My first (current) new car is a 2015 E84 X1. I knew going in that anything after the warranty would be "winging it,' so to speak. The plan was generally 10 years/100k miles if all goes well. Selling points vs. similarly priced volume cars were better fuel economy, better engine/transmission/chassis, rear wheel drive, 4 years/50k warranty and free maintenance (vs 3 years with others), and a usually a better dealership/service experience. I could have had a Ford with a crappy infotainment screen that probably would have lost the transmission by now or I could forego the screen and have something that's actually nice to drive... I'm going through something with this car ownership that's like a midlife crisis. This is my new car, but it's not "new" anymore. It was problem-free throughout the warranty. In following years, some minor but annoying issues came up. Radiator. Front and rear washer fluid pumps. Intercooler leak. The one that hurts now though is the sunroof shade. That's the only thing that I've left broken and it's killing me because this was "new" and I let it happen. That job to fix it though... I don't have any real complaints about the car itself. It's the last model year of its generation, so it was as sorted out as it was going to be. It drives like it did when it was new and I have about 65k on it now. It's a great place to be and with depreciation, I could never get anything nearly as nice for what this thing is worth today. The issue, which you touched on, is the dealership/service model. I don't think it's the engineering of at least the "daily" cars that's the problem. It's the dealership model of outrageous parts markups and labor rates. I've usually just sucked it up because I want it done right, but I was just quoted $3400 to replace front struts or $2700 using "aftermarket" (probably OE/OEM) parts. I'm not willing to put up with that, so now I'm getting a quote from a local guy or I might just do it myself. Those numbers for that job are just insulting. That's fine for warranty repair and leases, but I'm not going to put up with that and be punished just for keeping and maintaining my paid-off car like a responsible person. So... It's not "new" anymore and it's not going to go to the dealer for everything. I'm going to have to find a "guy" or two and dust off the tools I used on my E30. I don't particularly want to work on my car, but I also don't want to pay $3400 to have rocket scientists in a clean room replace the same struts that I can get or under $400 for the pair except with a "Bilstein" sticker instead of a "BMW" sticker. I really hope that sticker doesn't affect the car's handling, but I'm going to have to risk it at this point.
Yes you were wrong sure there have been some troublesome drive trains but they’ve always had relatively trouble free drivetrains too. I’ve had BMWs since 1995 and have had no more issues than any Japanese car I’ve owned!
The newer motors have been a big change historically. I know BMW wanted to make a big change about how theyre viewed reliability wise and the B58 motor is both in a Toyota and numerous other BMWs. The B48 is the 4 cylinder version of this engine. If its good enough for Toyota, its worth buying and holding onto, at least for a little while
My son just purchased the m sport 330i and I must admit also that as much as I wanted to support his decision there was a lot of negative feedback from me…. I may have to eat some crow time will tell .
Agree 100%! Everyone is entitled to opinion, but when it becomes fact - there definitely needs to be change. I really like your channel! Strategy is best complex - singular and variables - to make greatest learning leaps and bounds - every company does that differently. I think they've tried new things maybe not too much but too long? With so much data - will what works (don't fix it) be ok to the majority of consumers or do they prefer style vs reliability? My 07 3xi is doing pretty well. How can I get a better one without issues and $ I'd rather put towards more reliable options vs lifetime cost and ease to maintain that vehicle myself. Thanks!
Hi Mark, my wife and I have the same feeling. We traded in our 2008 323i at 145,000Kms last 2022 for a new 22 AWD Rav4 due to the fact the we got hit by the reality of new car shortages and parts shortages. At present we are looking to add another BMW together with our RAV. Lol. My wife really cried when we traded in the 3 series. It was trouble free for 145,000kms / 10 years with us, we used it daily and even during frigid Edmonton winters. Over its life we had one set of brakes at around 60,000KMS, new plug and coils and valve cover gasket at 93,000Kms, new waterpump at 105,000KMS, and a new starter at 120,000Kms when the -45C edmonton winter killed it in 2021. Thats basically all it had. it has the N52B25 200hp I6 oil changed every spring/summer and fall/winter with recommended BMW LL01. Our 2022 Rav was quite interesting as within 90 days of ownership the outside passenger side B pillar moulding had warped. 6 months later the sun visor went squeaky every time we opened it. (i guess its more of a material quality thing.) and in just the recent couple of months, we had a electronic power steering low voltage warning and electrical gremlins. To top it all off, at 17 months old the car died outside rogers arena this summer while parked, had to be boosted due to some unknown electrical drain. We love our Rav as well for daily but we weren’t expecting that its gonna act up more than our previous BMW being it a new vehicle hence toyotas reputation for reliability. Now the rav seems fine but we are fearful to activate the auto/startstop feature as it might leave us stranded in the middle of the road. Now we are on a hunt for a good deal on a used 2017 and up BMW. Cheers!
I've owned 3 BMWs

BMW's reliability has certainly improved significantly. I had the 730 D (2017), which I sold in 2023. It had only one electrical problem, and BMW fixed it for free. Otherwise, it had a zero issue. I’m glad you made this video because I’m buying a 2018 x2 with 50k miles tonight and your videos had me terrified 😂😂😂
That has a solid drive in it just check on the service history and be satisfied with that. Those B48s is solid these days
X2 are so rare. Dont think ive ever seen one in my country
You can get reliability in a bmw if you buy something that sticks to their formula: straight 6, manual transmission, RWD. That's your best bet
Agreed, although their latest ZF transmissions generally don’t fail so it’s really about the engine as the big part of the reliability improvement
How do you find a manual transmission nowadays? Very few cars offer manuals.
@@bruceleeroy8302 was more talking about older ones, which enthusiasts mainly go for
BMW still makes M3 with manual transmission but it is not common and may have to order it@@bruceleeroy8302
Plus manual is the modern anti theft device for the millennials 😂
This makes me happy. As you know I bought the new X5. Had a 1600km trip. Loved every km of the way.
Great to hear!
Every video you say “life’s too short to drive boring cars” We own a boring BMW 320i and we own a 2022 M240i. The M240i is one of the most exhilarating cars you can drive. Because when its all said and done, life really is too short…love your channel and thanks for the honesty.
Thank you very much for the comment and support. Have a great one
My 2nd car is a 2014 BMW X5, it has a 100k miles on it. I bought it last year and so far the car has been good. It had some oil leak issues which cost a bit to fix but I was expecting these to know issues going in. But now it run just perfectly.
How many km have you put on it? I have an xc90 ,very reliable but looking to jump on an x5
I've been following your channel for a few months and just recently picked up a used M440i largely because of your comments about the B58 engine. Hope you're right, Brother! Thanks!
Thanks so much and welcome to the channel. I would love to hear more about your car especially with time
Thanks for sharing, and appreciate the vulnerability.
My first BMW is X5 35D m sport 2017 and is best car ever owned ❤ 0 issues and drives like a tank
Thanks very much for watching and I appreciate your comments. Have a great Holiday
Merry CHRISTmas to you also. BMW = Beautiful Machine Wellmade!@@ECPP
Your honesty is always something I appreciate. However, there's one thing you need in this video... a "Was I wrong" counter. 😁
Haha, indeed
I have a X1 and its a great car. 33 miles highway but has 250 HP.
U are not wrong at all….. look at the customers that bought BMW’s and couldn’t enjoy the cars because they started acting up. 😮
You aren’t wrong. Visit Nigeria & see many BMWs parked or abandoned at mechanic workshops. I’d love it’s powerful engines and designs but reliability is very poor here compared to it’s rivals like Mercedes Benz. You are right my guy.

Nigeria? No thanks. I have a reliable mechanic here in Aus
Thank you so much for watching
I just got a g20 330i how do you like yours?
how is the car so far, i wanna buy one;
i love the BMW no matter how many issues mine had. if i care for mine well, drive it properly, and follow maintenance schedule, I had no problems with it.
Thanks for sharing and congrats on the vehicles, I know they are nice to drive
The oversized grille is the ugliest design BMW ever came up up to date. Just because a few odd individuals like it or getting use to it does not change the fact that it's ugly.
It’s quite different indeed
You were not wrong about that grille! Can't fix ugly! 😂😂😂
Haha
I think the idea to not change your oil until like 10,000 miles will cause any car to wear out. This would with super high mileage is something to be discerning about!

B48 and B58 are solid reliable engines and can’t go wrong with either of those these days IMO. and if getting pre owned one make sure service history is done right and on time and you should be solid

6 cylinder manual transmission

I bought it used and had zero problems with it just normal maintenance oil tires brakes I absolutely love the way it drove and how quick it felt off the line it was like a GTO except the M5 could stop and turn and hold five adults
Except for the M badges on the outside it looked like a normal five series it was a great sleeper
I wish I still had it

Ever heard of the mercedes taxis in europe???

Damn right
No you’re not wrong about the buck tooth grille.

Someone is pressuring you. BMW has always nickle and dimed people. Maybe they are better now. But they always been a car to lease
Not whether you were wrong or right. Question is - are your comments based on facts? Or just made merely for youtube “likes” and/ or “subscription” ?
“In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.”
German cars are the best in this world period !
Thanks for the comment
Thank you so much and I really appreciate that.
Great point!
I love my BMW! For a 4cyl 3 series it sure does ride very smooth, and it’s quick enough for me. I’m a 32 year old male so my driving reckless days are pretty much over. I like to cruise now.
It’s a nicer driver anyway. Maintenance is a little less and fuel costs too.

Great channel. Your unfo really help rationalize the emotional from the quantitative of the car selection process, then add the subtle undercurrents of manufacturer and dealer. It's a murky soup, but the way you talk about it, becomes quite clear and gives people like me hope, that i can probably sort through it. Thanks!
Thank you very much, I try to bring value to viewers with real content but throw in a little humour and fun while doing so.
Went from N55 to b58. F10 to g30. For obvious reasons.

I can understand your new found love for the newer engines and transmission... but what about the 2014-2019 cars that are N20/N55 engines, be that the 320i/330i or others... still hate those?
Early n20 is still a bit of a mess and the n55 has a little more of a list of potential pitfalls, and insti say being a strong DIYer cam really help

I wouldn't tempt fate. It's only been a year.
My 2021 BMW X4 its a pleasure to drive , bought it at 33k miles and i had no problems at all. at 47k miles still going strong
Nice
As soon as you pass 50k miles, things start to fall apart. Starting with oil pan gasket leak and valve cover gasket leaks lol
Just tell it like what it is. Later BMWs have built-in expiry date. When you have plastic parts that come into direct contact with heat like cooling system hose connectors etc., on board computers controlling everything, what do you expect. No point of a bulletproof engine when everything around it fails in quick time.

Not only b58 but also b48 ,s58 and m57
I didn’t have my 2017 340ix maybe 19,000 miles
Not so much engine issues but build quality which sucks compared to the older ones
That I can see the gradual decline even with f series too. Engine is much better though
The turbo engines are way more reliable than the original ones that's a fact! Takes time to perfect new technology that is very complicated!
I respect nothing more than a man that can admit when he is wrong. This was commendable because he is right bmw has stepped up their reliability as of late. However the buck tooth grill is ugly lol and I do like bmw but those grills ain’t it

Exactly what I was thinking

Have a great week and thanks for reaching out
Those enormous grilles are grotesque..ugly as sin.Suggestion: extend the front end 5"=make surface much easier.

To sum it up with bmw the new B48 and 58 engines are the most reliable. The problems that bmw used to have had to of been fixed as of 2024. No way they still exist as bad
They are solid engines now for sure. The V8 engines are still risky.
Your not wrong, some of bmw earlier V8s were an absolute financial nightmare, the N63 oil consumption worst engine in the history of mankind 😂
Yes the early first Gen N63 was a serious disaster, there have been improvements but I would still personally stick with the sixes
There are some okay BMW - BUT the majority of them are disposable sports luxury vehicles - right after 70k miles.
Thanks
I have owned 4 BMW’s. One 4 cylinder, one 6 cylinder and two 8 cylinder models… great fun to drive…terrible reliability. The one we have now is the 550 msport. Maintenance costs are ridiculous! I will not buy another!
I thinking about getting a bmw myself as a 2nd car,I like the 335i and how it looks, and I prefer a manual transmission, which lexus doesn't offer in any model, cudos to bmw for keeping the manual, rear wheel drive cars alive.
That is true but I would suggest a Peter model with the n55

I had over 30 different cars, nothing comes close to driving, economy and reliability mix. NOTHING.
I think most of the GDI + turbo engines are prone to failure after 100k miles. Just too much pressure and most engine makers just don’t design properly for it. Let’s see if Honda 1.5 turbos hold up as long as the naturally aspirated ones. I really doubt it.
Agreed. There are already issues and they won’t go anywhere near as long as the older engines line 2.4

They need to change the design not the grill because BMW from 1970s look the same

I like the Lexus grille and some don't, but everyone is different

Thank you so much
The newer motors have been a big change historically.
I hope Land Rover will get better by the time I can/if afford it
Nice
Cheers!
