- Want to know more about high pivot mountain bikes? Check out the review of the Cannondale Jekyll as part of our Enduro Bike Shootout.
Cannondale is a brand that has long marched to the beat of their own drum, for better or worse. This tendency towards the obscure has kept their lineup unique for years, but it’s when they work within the realm of what we consider normal that my interest is piqued - must mean they’re onto something. This is mostly the case with their new Jekyll; sure it’s a high(ish) pivot with a funky shock cavity in the downtube, but in many ways it looks and feels like some of the more typical bikes on the market. But does it ride like any old bike? We were excited to have it in the mix of our 2022 Enduro Bike Shootout to find out how it stacks up.
We’d like to thank Maxxis Tires and Fox Racing for helping make this Shootout possible. We equipped all our test bikes with Maxxis rubber to give each bike a predictable platform from which to evaluate the bikes on our test trails.
The Lab
The Jekyll is a bike we’ve already covered extensively in both a Dissected and review format, so I’ll leave those up here for any detailed Lab references you may need. The cliff’s notes are as follows: 29” wheels on both ends; 165mm of rear travel delivered through a high pivot on the lower end of the spectrum; a 170mm travel fork; modern enduro bike geometry; no proprietary Cannondale parts or trickery, and a pretty solid spec for the price.
The Dirt
Though we’ve already covered the Jekyll quite extensively, there are a few points worth noting that were found over some extensive riding. First off is just how quick this bike is when you’re riding committed. It really feels as though it’s meant for racing. We found that if you are ever riding too lazily on the bike, i.e., not pushing through sections and committing to lines, it would get noticeably more nervous and harsh feeling - likely due to the fact that the rear end needs to get past a bit of a breakaway point to start feeling supple. Again, this wasn’t noticeable as long as you were pushing through the pedals, however the trick to success is maintaining that when things get rougher.
The Wolf’s Last Word
It may be a high pivot, and it may be a Cannondale, but there’s nothing too strange about the way the Jekyll performs on trail - it’s fast, fun, and intuitive. We really enjoyed riding this bike and found it to be one of the top options when it came time to pick a race bike but falls slightly short of bikes like the Specialized Enduro and Canfield Lithium for riding in a more casual setting.

I have to say, your crew is one of the best bike testers i have ever viewed. So much nice and important Details about the bikes , explained with great knowledge in a very chill atmosphere. Love your Reviews! No bullshit, just real talk.
Greetz from Germany!
Thank you very much!! We appreciate the feedback.
One thing is to know all the numbers, other is how those numbers are supose to feel in your riding, but most importantly is how those numbers work for you, and these guys can be really geeks of the sport, but the feedback you give is key. Thank you very much!
Thanks for the in depth review! I have one of these, so i am biased. The jekyll really kills! Loves speed and big hits. Like the guys said, you have to ride it hard. It you want a passive bike it is not for you
Thanks for sharing your input as a fellow Jekyll owner and glad to hear you've got similar feedback.
I have this bike and absoultly love it! 10/10 would recommend it!
Great to hear!
This bike is a ton of fun. I replaced the X2 with a MRP coil shock and it's so good. So much traction and control.
My most consistent thought while riding it is "huh, I could have gone faster"
Why, if you don't mind me asking, did you replace the X2? Did you have an issue with it?
@@miguelnavarro2571 I love coils. The X2 could have gotten there - it needed volume spacers. But a coil shock just feels amazing.
So for these new enduro bikes, it would be interesting to hear how they compare to some of the established top bikes in the class like the Specialized Enduro, Rocky Mountain Altitude, Yeti SB150, etc.
I love this bike 🚲
Awesome epik beautiful bike lovet❤❤❤🤘👍
Its AI or Super boost. The latter def requires new wheels or adapter kits. ai offset don2 on in 20mins
nice
How do you feel the Jekyll, compares against the Forbidden Dreadnought?
We've not ridden a Forbidden for very long but based on our experience with high pivot bikes, the Cannondale will likely be a better all arounder, pedaler and suffer less of the drawbacks of a high pivot since it's a pretty low/mid high pivot bike. The flip side is, it may not be quite as DH-bike feeling on the fastest/burliest DH trails. Similar to comparing Jekyll to Norco Range.
I sold my Dreadnought as I didn’t get on with the geometry (couldn’t quite get centred enough) with top tube a fraction long for my physique.
Went with the Jekyll and I can say that they perform similarly with the exception of the feeling of a longer wheelbase with the D’nought and the Jekyll more ‘whippy’/‘playful’.
What would You rather buy? Specialized Enduro Comp or Cannondale Jekyll 2?
Wondering the exact same
@@notkvnchn I owned the Enduor and I'm rinding the Jekyll now, I would go with Jekyll, I'm just having more fun on that bike even though a lot of the numbers are the same/close.
That paint is sexy as hell.
It looks even better in person!
With the ai rear wheel spacing could I just get my current “normal” wheels re-laced to work?
For sure, any shop could cut different spokes to nudge things over. In some circumstances you can even dish a built wheel 3mm to one side and it'll do just fine as long as tension is even.
The shop just needs to dish the wheel slightly. No new spokes needed.
I wonder what the wheels on this are like.
Not my favorite, honestly. The rims hold up pretty well, but the hubs are very low engagement, to the degree that they took some getting used to.
How tall is the main tester?
Drew is 5’11, Sean is 6’2 and Dario is 6’3.
How many sag on rear you ride on this bike.
I put it at like 27-28 percent cus at 30 I noticed I was blowing through the travel but that may be a volume spacer problem
Guys how about showing more bike footage, 2 dudes standing in front of a bike is pretty boring content.
F cannondale for giving this bike that stupid AI spacing. Great now all my wheels don’t work with it and my trueing stand doesn’t work.
We have standards for a reason.
What spacing?
Its 3mm of a dish adjustment. Normal wheels will work fine too.
Normal wheels work just fine in a pinch, 3mm of dish isn't going to make a huge difference. The upside is better chainline with a normal boost bike, which is a nice perk.
@@gaffney92 I think its 6mm offset.
YT CAPRA is 1/3 the cost for a CORE 4. Get over yourself.
