Great video, my russian is 15 years old, captive bred. He's a hurricane Laura survivor, & his life began with him spending 2 weeks stuck in a FedEx box without power during hurricane Rita & the searing heat of the aftermath as he was shipped to me. Very hardy & lovable tort🐢
I have a adult captive bred Russian named Rand. He’s been just great for me for almost three years now. It feels like I’ve known him forever, but our relationship has only just begun. Loved the video!
Good vid, I own Two hermanns and one Russian together, this year I managed to breed the hermanns so I'm in 6 tortoises total. They do great in Spain, they tolerate cold winters no problem and overall we love tortoises in our yard!!! You can't go wrong with them
They love groups, I have 2 girls 1 guy in a pen and they all get along great. Love my tortoise family.
Thanks man, I just bought one from pets mart and you have great info
Great informative as always Greg!
Thank you for the info!
Broo your video's are amazing finally someone who makes videos about these tortoises again. Your enclosure looks really nice btw. Keep up the good work!
Hermann's tortoise is present in the wild here in my country; unfortunately, this beautiful animal is threatened by poaching and even more by habitat loss, that's why it's protected and his detention as a pet is heavily regulated (which I agree). It's also quite rare to see in the wild :( but still a beautiful tortoise :)
POACHING they would literally blow up how do they poach either way that’s sad
Nice looking torts man. You know I love them!
A beauriful set up! I didnt know about their beaks thats fascinating and a cool bit of information!
I have a Russian tortoise I just adopted from my sister and I have him in an outdoor set up I live in Arizona
Thank you posting such an informational and awesome video. I just hot my kids a Testudo, that we named Henry. Right now we have him inside until we can get our backyard ready for him. Can’t wait to make many years of memories with him.
I have Herman’s tortoise and I love him, he’s very personable and easy to care for, of course, I did a lot of research and belong to the tortoise forum.
Owner of Hermanns, Horsfields and leopard tortoises.
Great video although hermanns and Horsfields should never be kept together
Cool video. I have to agree with you on your Testudo recommendation. I have a year and a half old Hermann’s tortoise. He’s full of personality and just the sweetest little guy. He’s definitely brought a lot of happiness to my life.
I get so much joy sitting and watching these tortoises
I have a Russian tortoise. She's about 20 years old and her name is Tulow. Because she is too low to get into too much trouble. I keep her indoors, in fact next week I'm going to be building her a new enclosure that will be larger than her current enclosure. I would love to be able to keep her outside but living in Denver Colorado I am terrified that she would be frozen over the winter.
Thanks for sharing man... your the best
Thanks for watching!
Thank u so very helpful
Hi from UK. I love your outdoor enclosures.
I like your channel and presentation, you are a great guy! I subbed
Thanks, glad to have you! 👊🏼
I have a Russian tortoise got him as an adult rescue and he his everything I have always wanted in a tortiose..great personality and very happy bringing held or just running around.
It would be nice to find more information about them and their habitat requirements. You tube doesn't have a hole lot about these incredible aminals
There're tons of videos on youtube about testudo tortoises.
@@ImpulseHobby yes about Herrmann..elongated.. marginated..but not strictly Russian and that's what I was talking about
@@cynthiahodgkinson You're wrong. Here is a couple of the many vids about Russians: ruclips.net/video/z5x7Ul9Z8x0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/1zMThJDHrw8/видео.html
@@ImpulseHobby thank you I will check them out. But when I typed in Russian Tortoises the majority of the videos were watching them eat videos not educating about them.

Great video Greg!
I'm looking at getting some of the cold-hardier tortoises in the future. Hopefully they can be my little lawn mowers ;)
I have one and I love him I call him stinky and I let him in the yard and he just likes to run around my fence is secure and I watch him but he eats a lot and he poops a lot but he’s so sweet
I love how this video doesn’t have any dislikes yet
russian tortoises can be very agressive when people keeping them at indoor enclosures that much smaller that outdoors - in my country we have a lot of issues with their agression in case a lack of space
nice video
You have 60fps option for videos now, sweet 👍
I have a Russian tortise his name is max I had him for about 7or8 years now he seems to know his name I let him out to run around the apartment then I put him back in his house I lived in a 2bedroom apartment here in DC he seems to be hibernating his self in his house spring is almost here so he will be ready get out on the balcony soon we are on the 4th floor he's so cool enjoy your day God bless
Awesome educational video I live in Charleston, S.C and have a pair of Herrmann and 3 redfoots 👀💚🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢
My Russian tortoise, Isolabella is mad at me for not having such great outdoors space as you have.
😜
Shell yes!
Good video bro
Thanks for watching! 👊🏼
Hello! I love Russian Tortoises and am heavily researching them, though I don't think id be allowed to get one any time soon. But I'll away hope too!
Dude u PLEASE gotta make a common stinkpot musk turtle full care video!!!!
Ok, sounds like a plan!
Your my favorite channel and one of the only turtle channels on RUclips that I trust. ❤️
Yep, stinkpots are very cool turtles. I've got one of them.
I am from the West Coast. There are owners here that have kept them outside year round, the only thing they had to worry about was the rainy winters. They seem to be able to brumate outside just fine as long as they are dry. My winters rarely drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. I read in southern Russia and the mountains of Afghanistan where they are collected that winter temperatures drop to below 20C, so like -15f?
Hey mate do you ever get people that want to send you testudo and Russian( horse fields) tortoises? If ever you get over run would you please consider me as a forever home for any you can’t house? Me and my cousin are really trying to stick to the testudo genus as they work best for us outdoor up here in Illinois. I know this probably isn’t the best platform to reach out to you on but I’ve just discovered this video this morning and have been watching your vids all day!
I don’t currently own any tortoises but I would love to get some Elongated or Herman’s tortoises in the future
Can’t go wrong with either
My neighbor just found a tortoise wandering around outside. I'm keeping it until it's owner is potentially found. I can't tell what species it is though. It might be a Russian or Greek. But thankfully they all need about the same care.
Hi Greg! Very nice video, loved it! I am new to tortoise and planning to pet one. I live in Indonesia which has high humidity and heat. Would you recommend Hermani? Or cherry head instead?
In your humid climate, I recommend cherry head, Redfoot and elongated
@@GregsTurtleHaven great! Thanks!
hey man thanks
for info in the video,i have a Hermann and i just bought a Russian tortoise today (1/7/21) and I do have a question for you, can I put russian tortoise and my hermann tortoise together?
I have a selcata I love him or her it’s one year old
I have an aldabra, 2 sulcatas one albino, one regular and an elongated tortoise. I love my aldabra, so personable.
Maybe someday I’ll work with an Aldabra
@@GregsTurtleHaven hmmmmmm I have two marginated torts. Is that fine???
@@loriannaliut_t6601 both females?
@@ImpulseHobby one male one female
i have 1.3 A.horsfieldii (rusians) very nice animals to watch always active with the warmer weather
My 8 year old son has a pair of Hermanns. Where in the US are you? We're in East Texas and would like to do an outside setup but he's afraid of the winter being too harsh. Any advice?
Thanks
Have you ever had any luck any breeding your russian tortoises? If so any tips
I am wanting to get a tortoise. I’m in the Dallas Tx area so I’m thinking maybe a red footed since it’s hot and humid and can get pretty rainy. Do you have any issues with predators since they aren’t covered? Also, do you use a filter when giving them water?
Did you get one ????
I have a Russian tortoise I Hard it for over a year now ❤️
Sardinian Marginated tortoises like a more humid environment but they are much bigger than Hermanns. I have got thee year old female and she is 14 cm long.
I live in South Florida. Any suggestions on where to find a baby testudo tortoise? I don't want to inadvertently get an imported one or one from a disreputable breeder.
Marginated tortoises are extremely hardy and really smart. I can’t recommend them enough
They are really cool but quite big for indoor keeping
Agreed!
just got a baby russian tortoise captive bread in montreal canada, it gets cold in our winters, how do i make sure to keep temperature warm if in wooden enclosure?
Where can I get one?
I just bought mine but i dont know if i can leave it around with my dog
We have two Russians! They’re awesome, active, and have funny personalities lol
Best tortoises!
Where can you buy captive breed? Know any websites?
Can you do a video about the Mexican giant musk turtle
Working on it! 👍🏼
How many different types of tortoises do you have
8
I have a Testudo Tortoise and, I think it's a she, I feed Shellina various vegetables but I do not know if you only need to feed them Greens. I feed her some zucchini and bell pepper or maybe carrots, with the added top of Kale, mustard greens, and one other one. She never eats all of it. So do I just need to feed her a few different mixed greens each day?
I feed mine occasional vegetables, but always mixed with leafy greens
How to choose between the two (Russian or Hermanns)??
Would housing russians outside year round in washington state work? if there's supplemental heating
With a dry winter hide, maybe heated, should work
I wish everyone knew me as the big food monkey.
Iam thinking about getting a baby russian tortosie . Can they be put in Fish Tanks , what kind of bedding for them ? Live in Canada
Can I leave them outside all year round in Connecticut
No
Will the Russian tortoise and Hermann crossbreed? Ever? Is it even possible? Can I keep them together? Thanks I know that's a lot of questions 😊❤
They should never be kept together, they carry different pathogens which can harm each other
Sweet vid! I live in Wichita Kansas. Would love to get some tortoises sometime. I think I’ll have to move into my own place first, but I want to have a bunch of turtles and tortoises in my backyard. Might get a box turtle colony or two, and then I’d love to get some other aquatic species along with my alligator snappers!
Do you know if there Is there any legitimate US breeder of Indotestudo Elongated tortoises, or any organizations that might re-home adult elongated tortoises? (I'm in NY).
The only ones I come across are reptile brokers who overcharge.
Borat! 😁😂
I have a Russian and a redfoot my Russian is 4 mnths old think the redfoot might be the same
hey next video can you make a video about how to care for turtle and tortoise eggs pls because I have 9 diamond back terrapin eggs now just in a time being incubator of my friends and he told me that I cannot keep it for so long because he has many eggs of turtles and tortoise and it has almost filled his incubator so he has to give me it this sunday......so I want to know how to care for those eggs
