I love birds of all sorts. We had an African Timnie. He was extremely talkative. Loved to mimick my laugh. We had to re-home him as our son developed allergies to birds,it broke all our hearts ,which we didn't know he had. So we took him to a very good bird sanctuary. He's doing very well. We visit him all the time. Now that our son no longer lives at home we are looking to get another one. Plus we've learned more about how to keep the dander from getting all over. They have developed a powder for it. It's not a chemical either it's all natural and safe for the bird. They have it for cats and dogs as well. I can barely wait till I find one. We looking to get a rescue, we live in Alberta Canada.

Awww this is my first time here. My favorite part is where your beautiful grey snuggled mama. Omg. My heart just melted. I have never seen one of these AG’s have soooo much love that they snuggle their human. Awwww. Your bird was soo instinctively in tune with your heartbreak over your mama that he snuggled you and gave you sooo much love right on camera. That is soooo absolutely amazing. first time I watched you live, that was great! I watch alot of Gizmo's your tube videos they make my day and make me laugh! I don't have a bird they seem to know I am a bit afraid of them I have been bitten twice pretty good by a cockatiel and a giant parrot (I think is was an amazon the really colourful ones just because I didn't give him a peanut fast enough) that was a good bite so now I am skittish around birds and don't go near them really especially big ones with big beaks lol Thanks for making my night I love watching your beautiful birds from Hamilton, Ontario

@@gizmothegreybird thank you, Emily🤗♥️ as I wrote to sarah above, my dad died short after, I crashed inside a bit. So I really can understand a bit, how you felt and still feel sometimes...it turns your life upside down, how you never thought before it could happen😔. But some videos on youtube really helped me a lot. Just to see so much love and kindness from people to animals, to see sad animals turn happy again... that somehow cures my heart .... to know, there is also so much love and life in the world 🥰♥️👍... But there are still some moments, when I again realize, they are gone.... it comes from tume to time... but I think, its a process.... wish you all the best, with your Gizmo♥️

I get it, she was my best friend.. my little dog somehow knows when my heart is sad and gives me extra love. God gives us special love thru our little animals. He loves you so. ❤

Is it true that African Grey's are hard to take care because of type of food they eat? When y'll Gizmo, Bird and Blue you was let know their sex of each one? Keep him quarantined for a couple weeks to make sure he has nothing the others can contact. Take him to the bathroom and check him for mites 😷❤ some call me Nurse Nancy and the others call me the Regis of lots 😁❤🇺🇸😊 the rescue looks like a Black Headed Caique but I'm only seeing him through the cage and it's pretty dark 🙄

I agree about training. I don't train my dogs. If they have a loving environment training is unnessary. It causes a lot of stress.
Do either of you have any animal behaviour training? Did you know that human mouths are full of germs and shouldn't kiss birds? I like how you both are patient, that you rescue Birds. I would like to suggest that you observe Dr. Ian Dunbar's Training. Although he primarily trains Dogs, he is an animal behaviourist whose training is for all species. It works very well for Birds. African Greys enjoy baths more than being sprayed. I purchased a flat bottomed terracotta large shallow pasta bowl from IKEA. It works, I use towels on the floor for the water excess. My African Grey enjoyed your video!

Hi my moms terrified of birds out of cages and when I move out I'm planning on getting a parrot or two I'm just not sure if they would be cheaper than having a cat or dog as a first pet when moving out on my own and it would keep my mom away from my home if I had one well her health isn't that good either anyways but that was always my outlook on having an independent life without them interfering in my life after coming out of a treatment facility for mentally disabled adults/and adults that needs special care like a group home for adults

You guys are wonderful I'm in ahhw of you. I have a 28 year old female grey her name is Hope she spent the first 25 years with the same woman, but due to health reasons breathing issues and such she had to rehome her. We had decided long ago when we were roomates that if anything should happen to her, I would care for her. I feel like the luckiest person to have her, never in a million years would I have thought I would love a bird so much I can't even describe the love I have for her . I want to get closer to her. However ahe has bitten me HARD, I'm fe😂arful any suggestions on where to begin

I just wanted to give you some information about training that I think you have misinterpreted, judging from some of the comments you made in this vid. It’s important not to jump to conclusions about what is the cause of events (which is why we have clinical trials to determine that). In the case of Alex, I am quite sure that he did not die young due to stress from being trained. He thrived in his relationship with Dr. Pepperberg and his training, and I’m sure he would have been healthier if he had lived in her home and not been left alone for most of the time in a lab. I’m sure we did not understand as much then as we do now about their dietary needs, as well. It is demonstrable that clear communications (as through clicker training) and positive reinforcement using operant conditioning has a positive, calming, and fulfilling effect on animals. Just as they work and earn what they get in the wild, it gives them more control over their environments, more choices, and more self-confidence. It is less stressful, not more, to have clear communications about what behaviors your partner, or training partner, likes or is asking for from you (relieves confusion). The bird is never forced to do anything with clicker training and always has the choice to opt out. The bird is given the decision of whether or not the reward is worth the work of the behavior requested from them in that moment. That’s empowering-really the opposite of stressful. (Ask yourself whether Apollo seems in the least bit stressed out, or a shining model of health. It is not really fair to imply that anyone is stressing him with training, when you don’t really know that.)
Every living creature in relationship to another living creature is always training or being trained with each interaction. The question is how clear you want to be in expressing to them what your desired behaviors from them are. It is fine if you want to keep all your interactions with your bird informal and goal-free, and they will still be trained that way (just more slowly).
If you would like to read a short book that clarifies how operant conditioning relates to clicker training (for your edification or to verify what I am saying), “Don’t Shoot the Dog,” by Karen Pryor, explains it clearly and concisely. You might want to read anything and everything by Barbara Heidenreich, who is a master behaviorist, very accomplished in her field.
I hope you don’t mind my chiming in with my two cents, but I know from experience how much a bird can benefit in so many ways from positive reinforcement training and clicker training, specifically, so it is hard to hear you advising the public that it may be a stressor that could rob a bird of his/her health and longevity. That is definitely not the case. As our beloved Cosmo would say, “Check it out!” LOL
