Thank you for the instructive video. I'm not native English speaking. At Min 14:17 and 18:15 you say "adami soruyorsun" for asking the man. shouldn't it be the dative? With the accusative you ask for the man who is kind /unkind

Thank you, that is very good question and I got your concern. It is all about the nature of the verb. To add a dative suffix, the main verb must be an action verb requiring a movement or orientation by the subject towards to the object of the sentence. In our case, main verb is “sormak/to ask” in infinitive form, which is not a verb requring movement or orientation towards to the object of the sentence which is relative clause, “kibar olan adam/man who is kind” but requiring/asking for the specification of the object of the sentence, which is relative clause “kibar olan adam/man who is kind”. To make this specific, in English “the”article is used “the man who is kind” while in Turkish one of the accusative suffixes ,-ı,-i,-u,ü is used depending on the vowel hormony rule “kibar olan adamI”. Besides, if you notice the previous sentence “Sen kibar olan adama bakıyorsun” Here dative suffix -a is used because the main ver “bakmak/to look” reqıires movement/orientation by the subject “Sen/you” towards to the object of the sentence , which is relative clause “kibar olan adam/the man who is kind” like the glance/look of the subject is looking for this man. So we add to the object one of the dative suffixes -a,e depending on the vowel hormony rule making it in our case “kibar olan adama” and “at the man who is kind”. Most of the time dative suffixes go with english prepositions to,-at, on etc depending on the verb used in english. Hope that would be explanatory for you.
