Most plants seem to like bowls better than my tanks for some reason and the inevitable microfauna in a dedicated shrimp setup make them perfect to to raise certain fry until they're ready for a bigger space. I've really enjoyed having some in the fish room.
Love this video ❤ real good , clear info on the shrimp bowl set up. I'm adding that dimension into my hobby 😁 definitely using your advice. Keep up the good work 👍
I would love to set one of these up, they look super interesting and as I don’t have the space for any more tanks - desirable! The only thing that puts me off is having a spiraling population…. I could put them in other tanks - but wouldn’t the result eventually be the same? I couldn’t bring myself to k/cull them as some people do 😬
I’m really enjoying your videos, Richard. I’m in the UK too and I’ve recently got back into fish-keeping after many years. Your vids are so informative and I love how you get straight to the point! So many videos on RUclips have someone waffling on and on and then not give the proper information anyway LOL. I’ve got a 60l tank that I’m keeping glowlight tetras in and have recently acquired a 22l tank that I’ve earmarked for some yellow neocaridinia shrimp once I’ve done my research
I would like to try a Betta with my blue dream shrimp, water temp is at 72deg but i am told betta's need 78deg, will my shrimp be ok with temp at 78. Thank you for all your vids, Very honest and helpful.
your shrimp will be fine at that temp but something to keep in mind is that shrimp breed and grow faster and therefore have a shorter lifecycle in warmer tanks. This is not a bad thing as I keep my breeding shrimp at 75 degrees no problem. The Betta is where you may have issues. Be sure to have lots of live plants in the tank as well as try to pick out a more passive betta so that it doesn't go after shrimp. Even with these precautions, it can still fail so just know that and be ready to house the betta in a different tank.
Perfectly timed video. The red cherry shrimp in my little 3 gallon tank (heavily planted, filtered, heated) have started having babies. I have 4 females and 2 males in this tank. I', thinking of starting a 2.5 gallon dirted tank for the babies when they're ready. But I'm worried about planaria. I normally just top off the 3 gallon as necessary, and gently 'gravel vac' sections with a turkey baster. What would you rhink of a heavily planted tank with perhaps an air stone. Or, maybe a tiny filter. Thanks so much, I find your videos informative and articulate.
Hai Richard...Im from southern most part of India and my aquarium temp is arnd 28 to 30C...I have a planted aquarium gng smoothly and some random aquariums with angels and so on...I hav been watching ur videos recently and really wnt to keep shrimps.. I have been trying to keep Shrimp for past 1 month with zero success. First of all i have only access to tap water ..For experimenting purpose, i started wit 2 Ltr tub and addedd Java moss and Xmas moss attached to coconut shell. Cycled it for 3 weeks. Measured te PH which is arnd 6.5, gh 200 to 225 ppm and KH 175 ppm....TDS is arnd 120. Everytime i add shrimps (Neocardinas only), they live for only 2 or 3 days max. Tried to keep Red cherry, yellow and bloody mary. I have seen molting everytime i add new ones. Te issue is all my local aquariums have access to Well water and mine is tap. I have ordered a Shrimp remineralizer as a last resort from Amazon which i might get by 2mmrw. Now from ur experience cud u throw some light over this please. Else i have to give it up totally on shrimps.
You should try using bottled water, I'm referring to the 20 liters water jug. This way you can validate if your tap water is the problem. The local municipality may be adding too much clorine or the copper water tubes may be leaching into the water column of yout tap water.
Warning: Lots of text I wanted to introduce amphipods like isopods and scuds into my tank to make it more diverse, but ive heard that they can kill all the shrimp one way or another. I already have a crayfish and im thinking of getting micro crabs. What should I do? Can the crayfish and crabs keep the isopods in check? Or should i just drop the whole idea?
I have a vase with some cherry shrimp that I almost never feed or do water changes and they are still alive and well. I believe the reason for this is because I have a lot of live plants as well as some hanging jew that I grow out of the top of the vase. it may also be due to the fact that the vase was set up and cycled for a long time before I added shrimp and the photo period is very high for the vase. I do not advise doing it this way but it seems to work for me as its been 7 months.

You're by far the clear and truthful AquaTuber I've ever watched you'll hit million subs by the end of this year !!! 😄
Thank you for your kind comment 🫶🏻

Yeah, one potential downside of Cherry Shrimp is the population does boom. 😒

Hey, thanks for the feedback. It’s nice to know my hard work is bringing value to others. 🫶🏻
I love glowlight tetras. They are seriously underrated 😕
How difficult would it be to place only male shrimp in the bowl to avoid overpopulation?
Could be tricky to select ONLY males, but would work in theory 👍🏻

Great advice from @talolsen8513.
I would pretty much agree. Would love to hear how you get on 👍🏻
I just tried to put a betta with my shrimp and it quickly went from a peaceful shrimp tank to hunt and be hunted 😢 so keep an eye on your betta!❤
Hey fella i am keeping my shrimp in a cube small tank is it okay it has plants too most of the times they stay with the plants which is tied to a rock
Yeah, should be fine. I keep mine in 7 gallon cubes (27 liters) 👍🏻
@@FishKeepingAnswers but I keep mine in 1 gallon nano cube tank
1 gallon is small, but not impossible. Keep an eye on water quality and carry out small water changes when necessary 👍🏻
@@FishKeepingAnswers thanks for your advice

Hi. Thanks for the feedback. Personally I run my bowls and vases heavily planted with an air stone. Works for me 👍🏻
i use a filter in my 2 gallon jar!
Where do you sell your shrimp online?
Sadly we gave up breeding to sell in favour of making RUclips videos 👍🏻

Honest answer, I have never kept crayfish or crabs (although crabs are on my ‘to do’ list) so I can’t offer any genuine advice. Sorry.
@@FishKeepingAnswers That's quite alright and I appreciate the effort to respond anyway. Cheers.

Isn't having guppies in a smallish vase fish abuse?
If they are healthy, how is it fish abuse?
Wouldn't it be stressing for a guppy in a small environment that is also 50% taken up by plant's limiting where it can move.
