My kid was done with his crib by 15 months. By 20 months, he would unzip his sleep sack immediately after being tucked in and wear it around his shoulders like a cape while he played. Now, at just over two years old, he has a fluffy blanket he tucks himself into at bedtime. Then after I've left the room he gets up and plays for a while, and goes back to sleep on top of his fluffy blanket. I just put him in warm pajamas and that + sleeping on top of the fluffy blanket seems to work for him. He went through a phase of being afraid of the dark, so I got him a little tea candle he can turn on and off himself. (The battery isn't one he can remove.) It's not very bright at all, but it adds a bit of atmosphere and comfort. He has a baby gate, so he can't leave his room at night. I think the idea of a wake-up cue is really smart as he'll eventually figure the baby gate out, or get potty trained and need bathroom access at night.
Thanks so much Sarah for sharing this information. The image of him running around with the sleeping bag over his shoulder made me laugh! Sounds like an adorable kid!
I'm surprised about kids not being able to pull up their blankets until they're 3! My daughter's been doing it since 2. 🤯 Something new to watch for with our new baby.
We had a crib/baby bed combo (you could move the mattress upwards for more ease putting the baby down, then you could move the matress down, so the kid couldn't climb over the sides, then you could take 2 "sticks" out so they could get out but not fall out and then take the sides off entirely, multipurpose!), so I had to "move out" when I was 2 and my little brother was born. My father in a typical move for him, bought me an adult size (normal height!) name brand bed (with matching closets and shelves). I slept in it until I moved out and still do when I visit, so it's definitely quality stuff (mattress has changed)! :D And I don't think I actually ever fell out of it either.
@@letsgoiowa you could try a floor bed, lots of people use them for babies and they would be safer as your baby can't fall off the rail as they climb out and get hurt. You would need to babyproof the hell out of their room as floor beds don't trap the babies on their beds, but it sounds like you would need to do it anyway. Depending on the person and their situation people do all sorts of things, some place the mattress strait on the floor, others get a floor bed frame meant for babies and toddlers and some skip cot sized mattresses all together. there are lots of great RUclips videos about the use of floor beds I personally recommend the videos by the Hapa family.
At high latitude the day time as the time the sun is up doesn't match up with our daytime/nigthtime routine that good that often therefore we need to learn to fall in sleep in ligth and wake up in darkness. Our daughter isn't a toddler yet but she sleeps thru the nigth.
What do you do with two kids waking early? My 20 month old has been waking at 4 or 4:30 am the past two weeks. Now my five year old is waking at 4:30 too…
You could definitely try it. I do find though that if you live somewhere where it is cold and the toddler needs to use blankets then a sleeping bag is helpful as they don’t generally have the skills to pull the blankets up when they kick them off.
Would any of these work with a 9 month old? Have you got any videos about how to get babies to sleep through the night? I really feel like I've tried EVERYTHING (noise machine, darkness, ac, ferber, eliminating dummy, feeding water) at this point I'm convinced my baby will never sleep through :( Thanks for the video, Emma. didn't know toddler sleeping bags even exist!
Hi Yulianna unfortunately it is not uncommon for 9 month olds to wake in the night for a feed. If your little one is waking for 1 feed then I would just recommend going with it. But if they are waking more than once each night and needing your help to resettle each time then it would be good to work out why they are waking and then this will guide you on what you can do to make the nights more manageable. In this video I cover the reasons babies wake and the solutions: ruclips.net/video/1ztReVnfU2g/видео.html I hope this helps!
My baby was a terrible sleeper at that age!!!! Are they teething?? Teething can be bad at this time!!! I just had my son in the bed with me it made it a bit easier x
Is there a way without using electronic gadgets? (I have no kids but just curious of why parenting is so hard) I remember that when I was a child I had a kind of window in my door so it was never completely dark. The subtle light from the living room where my parents where watching TV or from the street lamp coming though another room would come into my room. Maybe that would be an alternative to using a lamp?
There are certainly lots of different options you can use instead of using a night light. It really depends on the child and what they are also happy with. For my older two we leave the lights on in the hallway which are hue lights, so we can change the colour to a dull red light. It works a treat!
Emma, do you have video or advice for good nap? My baby can sleep quitely in the night without wake up but in the morning she barely sleep while I know she is sleepy. Because I breastfed her while laying down she can sleep and continue using my nipple as pacifier but when I pull my nipple she is awake
You need to make sure that she passes from the agitated phase of sleep to the profound one. Starting to breath calmly after 20 mins she closed her eyes this is a sign of the profound phase of sleep. If she does, then you can pull you nipple very gently
Thank you for another great video Emma! Still some time to go, but good to have the homework done for when we reach this stage Thank you soooo much for the previous video and the ones related to pacifiers. Unknowingly we were in the last stage (just for sleep) and we took the leap this Monday with all the knowledge from you. Is far better and easier than expected compared to what we heard from other parents You made parenting easier for me and my husband with your candid and fact-based advices, whilst helping us avoid common mistakes we see around all too often❤❤❤🤗

Thank you for these videos; they've been a big help on my parenting journey so far.

It's 4AM I'm watching this, he woke me up 😢
Amazing video. Will definitely be coming back to watch it for a refresh when my little hits 3yrs.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm glad to see, that you also make videos about older kids. Really helpful :D
Happy to help!

Thanks for sharing! Sounds like an impressive cot/baby bed combo.
Great video and will definitely uses all your advice.
But my toddler is 2 amd still wakes 2or 3 up for milk and cuddles.
Bye bye sleep for me 😴😂🎉❤
3 yrs is the craziest thing I’ve heard!! My 12 m old was climbing out of the cot. How would you even keep a 2-3 yr old in a cot 😳😳
😂
Oh wow 12 months is so early! That would have been tough!
My son is 3 and chooses not to as he likes it so much. I think it’s dependant on the child.
Yeah my 20month old would un-zip her sleep suit and was able to climb out.
My 7 month old is about to be able to climb out of the crib. Not sure what to do as it's on the lowest settings :(

No worries at all!

Hi Emma, How about switching out of sleeping bag before switching to a toddler bed? Could this help to adjust to a toddler bed easier?
You could definitely try it. I do find though that if you live somewhere where it is cold and the toddler needs to use blankets then a sleeping bag is helpful as they don’t generally have the skills to pull the blankets up when they kick them off.
@@EmmaHubbard In fact I do live somewhere where it's cold, Denver, Colorado USA. Great channel, tips, ideas. I'm sending you coffee soon.
A bed rail was important for me. I found this out after my kid rolled off the bed and did a face plant lol 🙃
Thanks for sharing!
I used pool noodles which I placed under the fitted sheet to prevent my little one from falling out of bed!
@@EmmaHubbard That's an amazing idea!
