    What I did with my fogger is drill through the humidity shield and screen and put the fogger tube through that. Then, I used HVAC tape around the tube on top. Make sure you clean up any sharp burrs inside on the metal. I use for frogs and BRB, so those guys can climb. Tortoise not so much.
    I then used a timer that goes off every couple of hours to put humidity in the air, but doesn't soak the substrate. I do not have the fogger run at night to give the enclosure 10-12 hrs to dry.
    Have bioactive substrate and some plants.
    The combo keeps the humidity in both of my enclosures right around 88%.
    Thanks for the information. Tortoises are the definition of gentle giants. If I lived in a warm environment, I'm just south of you, I would definitely have a few.

    Red foots are absolutely amazing!! I don't own one...YET...but as soon as we move and get a bigger house- that is the first thing that i want to get. I have 2 russian tortoises now, and tortoises in general are so cool!! I hope to one day be able to live somewhere where i can have a whole tortoise army! They eat better than any of my other reptiles, and have such awesome personalities. For my 2 guys, i have them in a 6x2x2 PVC, but they have free roam of my downstairs when we're down there.

    Thank you Trisha for the educational video about Red - Footed Tortoise. I have bought a book from Amazon called the "Red - Footed Tortoise Pet Owner's Guide." I would recommend this book to anyone who owns a Red Footed Tortoise, or to someone who wants to get one in the future.

    I have a red foot and yellow foot tortoise! Well I got them for my son. We went to buy ONE yellow foot tortoise and sure enough we fell in love with the red foot too! They had been together since birth and they were cuddled up together when we got to the reptile sanctuary. I didn’t have the ❤ to separate them .

    Great tips! I have 2 redfoots one is about 4 and the other is about 6 years old (both rescues) we thankfully live in Florida so mine live outside. I offer more plants/flowers/weeds/cactus which allows them to graze more which is great for their overall health vs just eating a big meal once a day

    I have box turtles, but I think red foot tortoises have the same enclosure size requirements. I built a 8ft long turtle enclosure using a raised garden bed kit as a base that I put on wheels, and have a locking top with plexiglass and mesh that helps keep the moisture in. The entire build cost me $110.

    Trying to decide on Redfoot, Greek Tortoise, or Eastern Herman's Tortoise. The RedFoot and Cherry Head are colorful. What a big decision? Can you help me understand the difference between Redfoots from different places? Are they all the same? Is the Cherry Head just a Redfoot with red markings on the head? I want a small to medium size tortoise. Nothing over 7 to 8 inches full grown. Thank you for making the video. I think I want a male.

    What my vet told me is that a tortoise should have 10x the size of their shell. So if the tortoise shell is 10 inch their enclosure should be 10×5. The width is hald the lenght. If u have an aldabra that is 36 inch then it should have 36 foot enclosure

    • @reptiliangarden
      @reptiliangarden  2 года назад +2

      I use the basic cheap ones. I’ve been meaning to get a digital one instead, but there are just so many options I never chose one.

    • @parislewis7940
      @parislewis7940 2 года назад

      I highly recommend getting a fogger/humidifier before you spend your money on a hydrometer. Your tortoise is pyramiding and looks dry. Misting the tank 2x a day is definitely not enough, consistent humidity is more important than soaking daily even though both are 100% necessary.

      @@oun6661 you can use both but it depends for me the fogger works better and the sprayer you would have to spray the cage a lot but you do want your tortoises to have it a little dry in the morning this is just based off of my experience thanks for asking

      Just stop feeding fruit for a long time and only veggies. They’ll get hungry enough and start eating greens again. Once they are actively eating their greens again, reintroduce the fruit. Small amounts and once a week

      Thank you! And she does have slight pyramiding. No idea what it could be. I keep a close eye on the environment and make sure it’s how it should be. I’m wondering if it is from possibly eating too much. There isn’t much info or an exact reason that causes it sometimes.

    8'x2' for an adult redfoot is way too small. If you don't have outdoor space for them, don't get one. They don't want to be imprisoned
