As both a drummer and percussionist I love hearing how rhythms from different time periods, cultures, and genres intertwine. The beginning of this reminded me of some marching percussion pieces I've heard. Not surprising since the majority of genres and styles in existence have African roots.
Yes, it is always fascinating to observe how many rhythms are universal and then to also observe how different places or people might relate to them ever so slightly differently and create their own distinct rhythms that express something unique.
