I noticed that the driver pin is chipped/worn towards the back. I think the problem is actually that the spring slide isn't pushing the nails forward all the way. This makes sense to me because of where the chip on the driver pin is at which indicates that the driver is only hitting the front half of the nail head. This uneven pressure causes the nail to warp and jam. I have the same nailer and you don't have to discard the last few nails just add a new rack behind them and keep going. Also in case you aren't aware the switch on the front of the gun is to release the driver in the event of a jam but I do realize that it doesn't always work and your method is then needed. In my experience as a carpenter most nail jams happen when the driving pin hits a nail that is seated incorrectly. This usually happens for a few different reasons: 1. The slide spring gets dirty over time which builds up friction causing the nails to not quite slide all the way forward resulting in the driving pin hitting the nail off center of the nail head. 2. The last nail in a rack of plastic collated nails slips out of the plastic in the nail gun slide and seats incorrectly resulting in the driving pin hitting the nail off center or the nail coming out of the gun at the wrong angle. 3. Sometimes when adding a 2nd rack of nails to the gun the 2nd rack laps under the first rack of nails instead of over which is the proper way. The force from the slide combined with the nails lapping under causes the first rack of nails to lift up at the back which alters the angle that they are seated. This results in the driving pin hitting the nail off center or the nail coming out of the gun at the wrong angle. These are just a few reasons that nail jams happen but in my experience these are the most common. The basic takeaway is that being careful to monitor that the nails are seated correctly can greatly reduce jamming issues. One final tip in regards to the slide sticking is that you can manually force the slide forward to seat the nails correctly by simply applying forward force. If a sticking slide is the issue you will feel the nails slide forward to the proper position. I just found your channel today and I subscribed. I appreciate the quality content and I look forward to learning more from you in the future. Thanks - David
No dude. I have the same DeWalt nailer and it does this every single time every few racks. You opinion means nothing bro. Go with air guns or a Milwaukee cordless
Can you make a video for the best pulling wire through conduit method? I know many people have different ways of making up the heads. Since I mainly work Commericial and Industrial. Do you know how I could get residential experience?
This might be a little late but I have the same nailer. It's jammed on me at least 20 times before I finally dropped a couple drops of oil on the firing pin and it has never happened again. Works smooth now I wish I would have done it earlier. Also my Ryobi brad nailer did the same thing until I oiled it also and now it works good.
This was the first thing I thought of. Same thing happens to pneumatic nail guns if you don't oil it a bit everyday. I use Hilti brand oil I never get jams after I started oiling
Hi.. This is a battery operated nailer. It states on the side where his thumb is at, it states not to add oil as this is a friction gun. If you add oil you will destroy the nailer. The receiver will get wear on the inside. Also, it may be that some springs are worn hence giving an uneven shot or not shooting at all.
Just came across this video today because I had the same problems. When the nailer gets down to its last three nails the nail clip guide sends a pin in behind the firing mechanism to stop you firing. Don’t make sense because your always left with 3 nails right? However you can just save those that are left over till you have a hand full, then throw them all in the clip at once and no waste.
It looks like the driver pin is chipped on the end which maybe the reason it jams so much. Not driving the last 3 nails maybe a safety stop so you don't dry fire the gun, check the manual
Bro there's a little black metal stopper on the spring handle that you can put down and it will allow you to finish all the nails on the mag, I also don't know why yours get jammed so much, mine works great, and I'm an actual framer in FL
So is it normal for these framing guns to Jam up like that I have a 30 degree framing dewalt nailer 20v brushless and I had bought one a few months back and had to exchange it for a new one because it would keep jamming the one I got now Jammed up today but was good before I hope it doesn't keep jamming up constantly because that would just slow me down? Is it normal for all framing nailers to mess up like that?
I'm wondering if his is jamming because he's using the plastic nails rather then the paper. I believe the DeWalt nailers are supposed to be used with paper exclusively but I could be wrong. The 30 degree one has to be used with paper.
No, bro I have both, the glue that holds the paper and nails together starts accumulating on the barrel and sometimes the paper gets stuck too, the plastic one is the best, I don't understand why his jams a lot maybe he's not putting the nail mag right
I wonder why yours is jamming? I ran an entire box of nails the other day without a jam, I’m just curious how often it’s happening to you. I’ve had maybe 4-5 jams with intermittent use. Also, I’ve never noticed issues when the nail hopper gets low. You may want to open a case with dewalt.
I've had mine for about a month and it great for the roof because I dont have to deal with the hose but I've had nothing but trouble non stop jamming, and the hook is shit it always falls of rafters.
This happened to me on the Makita cordless nailer. So frustrating. I’m not sure there’s a hex key for it either. Have to take it to the Makita store to investigate.
Damn dude I’ve had mine for a while and I’ve only had like 4 or 5 jams. But yeah even though it does waste the nails, I always get rid of the last few. Whenever I use them my nail gun jams
Oh that's all I have to do every 10 shots? What great product! I'd rather have a nail in my head! I own this gun and it's totally worthless due to constant jamming, WPOS!
Damn bunch of DeWalt haters in the comments. I have the 36 nailer and get a couple jams a day. I use it because I already have DeWalt everything so I just slap a battery in and go, no cords, hoses, or gas bullshit
Mine is a 30 degree. I put more nails behind the remaining ones when it stops working, NO PROBLEM. . .but that doesn't fix the issue of the damn thing jamming all the time & shooting 2 nails at a time! You didn't FIX a damn thing!
I'm building a barn and a friend let me use his Dewalt framing nailer.. WARNING: It jams up about every 10 to 15 nails. It is a complete and total piece of crap and Dewalt should recall every one of them.

Oil the hammer and don't let the slide snap forward and it will run flawlessly.
Man you really hit the nail on head with this one. Figured it was a simpler fix but you are spot on with your analysis of this gun. Thanks
First nail jam I’ve had in about 2000 nails (estimate), the new model doesn’t jam much. Thanks for the video I didn’t know how to un-jam mine lol
What's the new model
@@rolandlymangrover754 Gen 3 is what I have, model number DCN692N
So helpful. Mine just jammed and now I can get it sorted without taking it to the shop!

What kinda oil?
This was the first thing I thought of. Same thing happens to pneumatic nail guns if you don't oil it a bit everyday. I use Hilti brand oil I never get jams after I started oiling

What is a friction gun? 😮
Thanks for the tip mate. You just saved me a heap of time working out how to fix this. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 👍🏻👍🏻
You can use a nail and hammer to push the hammer pin back down and the nail will fall out
Just came across this video today because I had the same problems. When the nailer gets down to its last three nails the nail clip guide sends a pin in behind the firing mechanism to stop you firing. You nailed it! 🇨🇦👍
I was pretty scared at first. Thank you for your help, very helpfull !!!
thank you for this video, it was right on point.
It looks like the driver pin is chipped on the end which maybe the reason it jams so much. Not driving the last 3 nails maybe a safety stop so you don't dry fire the gun, check the manual
Our battery dewalt nailers do that too. The 15gague and 18 gauge. But we dont take the last few nails out, we just put another rack behind it
Good video...I just started using the same nailer and did not know what to do. Thank You
This video helped me out. Thanks
Worked like a charm 😅
Thank you!
Thanks man that was pretty easy I was trying to figure out how to do this soon as I loosen the nail came right out
Thank you helped a lot
I have the same and it got stuck. How do you remove a nail stuck behind the hammer?
Dude
this video is exactly what I needed
thank you
Thanks so much! It works 😅 bless you.
Bro there's a little black metal stopper on the spring handle that you can put down and it will allow you to finish all the nails on the mag, I also don't know why yours get jammed so much, mine works great, and I'm an actual framer in FL

Bro thank you for this video!
You literally saved me 5 hrs of my life

I'm wondering if his is jamming because he's using the plastic nails rather then the paper. I believe the DeWalt nailers are supposed to be used with paper exclusively but I could be wrong. The 30 degree one has to be used with paper.
My Rigid framing gun does the same thing. Everytime it gets down to the last 3 or 4 nails left in the gun, it will jamb.
Use the paper collated nails not teh plastic and this issue will be much reduced
No, bro I have both, the glue that holds the paper and nails together starts accumulating on the barrel and sometimes the paper gets stuck too, the plastic one is the best, I don't understand why his jams a lot maybe he's not putting the nail mag right
DeWalt states that these should be used with paper I believe. Probably best to follow their instructions

1 in 10 jam for me
What nails did you use?
Metabo 3”x0.120” plastic strip, full round head, ring shank, hot dipped galv, 21deg
@@gallamine aren't these designed exclusively for paper? He seems to be using plastic as well. Maybe that's the issue?
This happened to me on the Makita cordless nailer. So frustrating. I’m not sure there’s a hex key for it either. Have to take it to the Makita store to investigate.
Thanks
Milwaukee man! It won’t disappoint you guaranteed
It is DeWalt! It will always be trouble!
Sound vid. I was going bonkers today on a job before i found this:)
You saved my ass i thought i was a gonner
A professional like you doesn't need that to happen. Put that thing on eBay and get yourself a Paslode and get back to work.
Damn dude I’ve had mine for a while and I’ve only had like 4 or 5 jams. But yeah even though it does waste the nails, I always get rid of the last few. Whenever I use them my nail gun jams
This happens to me all the time, in fact it happened to me today. It always pisses me off
Why didn't I see this 2 years ago!!!!
My milwaukee has never jammed!
Carry a punch drive drive pin back in nail falls right out
It gets jammed alot because you shouldn’t be using paper nails.
I had this isssue then i changed nail brands
Oh that's all I have to do every 10 shots? What great product! I'd rather have a nail in my head! I own this gun and it's totally worthless due to constant jamming, WPOS!
Step 1: Throw Dewalt cordless nailer in trash.
Step 2: Buy a paslode
Damn bunch of DeWalt haters in the comments. I have the 36 nailer and get a couple jams a day. I use it because I already have DeWalt everything so I just slap a battery in and go, no cords, hoses, or gas bullshit
i love how you stack a billion studs to pack out plugs. woohoo
Thanks mate show me way nail off I try my air gun
It's not an awesome nailer if every 2 or 3 racks it jams.
That's absolutely ridiculous.
Time is money
Mine is a 30 degree. I put more nails behind the remaining ones when it stops working, NO PROBLEM. . .but that doesn't fix the issue of the damn thing jamming all the time & shooting 2 nails at a time!
You didn't FIX a damn thing!
Mine jams every 5th shot
Awesome cordless nailer but it wastes nails and gets jammed all the time. Those be some low standards bro.
Yeah thats a 2 part problem. First part is "De" and the second is "Walt". Paslode is the solution ;)
I'm not sure you can call it an amazing gun if it jams on you that often.
I agree - after using it for a few years I've since upgraded to Milwaukee's version and I'm so much happier with it.
I'm building a barn and a friend let me use his Dewalt framing nailer.. WARNING: It jams up about every 10 to 15 nails. It is a complete and total piece of crap and Dewalt should recall every one of them.
I just toss it over the fence and buy the passcode!
I love DeWalt. But this gun sucks bro. Honestly
Avoid the swirls in the 🪵 which on Q gets jammed for me I tend to avoid those...seems the drill is not powerful enough to sink through that part
Jam badly if use the wrong brand of nail.
