The unfortunate part is that bars will charge $300-500 for a pour. A fair priced pour should be around $150. And even that, I cannot justify at a bar considering I can buy bottles of many other very high quality whiskies for $150.
The funny thing is, if someone paid the sky high price for a pour at a bar the influence the cost would have on them would probably make them think it was the best whiskey ever 🤣

I considered it, but as I mentioned there is very little oak influence on Daniel Weller. W12 is VERY oaky to me, so I would instantly know which was which and the results would not be useful. Blinding the two that were similar in proof and profile I thought was more instructive.
A lot of the expensive bottles that I have bought to me were not worth that much money. Very good whiskey...yes. Not two or three hundred dollars. There are two green label goats. 6 year and 15 year. There will never be another 15 year like the ones we have released. The 6 year is 100% available, and if your local doesn't have it is is because they have not ordered it or because the wholesaler isn't doing a good job of informing them of what is available. It should be back on Seelbach by the end of the month.
He's distilleries are getting out of hand. Average Rinker cannot afford these kind of prices so thank you for this review I heard nothing but bad things about this bottle.
BT is tired of seeing their bottles they sold for 120 sell for 1,000 when they don't get any of that money. They don't want to increase regular brand line pricing because it would affect demand for when production capacity doubles. That is why they created this new sku to take profits from the secondary market.
Cost... not much more than usual Weller run. Emmer wheat is 3x more than red wheat, the cost of raw materials in whiskey production is quite low. Why the high MSRP... it's capitalism - charge what the market can bear. Considering "secondary" prices are $4k or more, Sazerac under priced themselves.
My theory is BT wants to take profits on their popularity, but can't raise prices on their regular products, but they can't because it would affect demand for when the new production capacity comes online. That is why they are going nuts on the special releases, because that should not affect future demand.
For me personally I can’t justify buying a bottle over $250 unless it’s some really old scotch. Bourbon though……$250 is my max but it’s gotta be something really special/different. It strikes me that BT is usually quite reasonable with their retail prices, despite the outrageous secondary market (from which they don’t directly profit). This seems like an attempt to cash in on the hype… but they might have made a poor choice here. I have to wonder if this might have been a LOT better at a higher proof.
When I first saw this bottle announced I thought cool, another bottle I will never see. Then I saw the price and said it better be really special. Glad I put zero effort into hunting this one.
The very best whisky I've ever had cost me $30. I've had some samples of expensive whiskies, and I've concluded that I've never had anything that, on its merits, was worth more than $100. The most I've ever paid is $58, and it was noticably better than the more expensive samples. Of course that's *my* judgment, and YMMV. 🙂 8:21 It sounds like this bottle isn't worth anywhere near the price.

Yes. $500 for an average bottle of bourbon is ridiculous. The average bourbon drinker would never spend $500 for a marketing stunt. Campari keeps raising prices for absolutely no reason whatsoever but to inflate profits. Bourbon drinkers will seek other, more fiscally responsible, alcoholic beverages as prices rise to ridiculous levels. The bourbon industry will kill the bourbon boom.
I think you may be a little off in your analysis. Premium whiskey pricing is mostly about the impact on shelve available brand lines. I felt the same way about the Willet 8 year wheated. I wasn’t mad, glad I had the opportunity to try and share it. But definitely a hard pass for me given the chance again
There were 3 bottles I was debating on, Four Gate (Calvin Calab), Rare Perfection 15 year and the Willet. I’ve had the other 2 so I went with Willet. Wish I would have picked up the Four Gate.
You did the right thing, I typically buy higher priced bottles if I find the at msrp, to have the opportunity to try them, and share with friends. The Willet was horrible, one of my favorites so far was the Rare Hare 1953!
The Rare Hare was a good find! Glad you enjoyed it! That’s one I may have sipped at a half oz at a time. My daughters are the only ones that drink bourbon. My youngest is still into doing shots for the buzz and my wife on rare occasion so typically I’m a solo drinker!

Hard pass 😄don't even have to taste it
🤣
It would be nice if BT would stop with all the weird nonsense and just focus on the things everyone wants - that'd be nice. This is purely a collector thing and sadly it happens in a lot of portions of various hobbies.
They can't cash in on their regular brandlines that they have major capacity increases coming for, but they can do LE bottles like this one and take some profits off the FOMO.
Your money so do whatever you want w it.
Yep! Cheers!
YES!
Cheers!
Yep 🥔💨
I can be pretty stupid. Thanks for watching!
You do you for me hard pass. Regardless of what it is or how good.
That is fair. everyone's budget is different.
yes i would say you overpaid for this.
Agreed
Not when you can flip it for 2k lol
🤣 Yeah, but I can't flip them because I am part of the producer tier and I have a contract with the retailer that I have to open it and review it.
For a score of 60, isnt that an easy pass? Not buying this at all
Whiskey is weird. Is it worth the money based on flavor...absolutely not! On the contrary, people who have watched this video who know it isn't amazing who have come to my house have been eager to taste it. People still want to taste a bottle that has this much hype attached to it, even when they know it is not amazing. People who have enough resources will still pay a fortune for this bottle to be able to have that experience.
@@BourbonRealTalk it's not only with whiskey with wine, vodka, cognac but I see what you are saying , thanks for the reply!
That's disappointing lol
Imaging if you had bought the bottle 🤣
Yikes
Yep🤣 Thanks for watching!

Cheers!
I felt the same way about the Willet 8 year wheated. I wasn’t mad, glad I had the opportunity to try and share it. But definitely a hard pass for me given the chance again
I'm feeling better about passing on one for $265 over the weekend
This one is definitely a one time buy.
