He doesn't say don't change your point of view - he says don't let someone else change your point of view. Basically, be true to yourself no matter what others say.
Rod evolved throughout the years, from "do you think im sexy" to "forever young", "Maggie May" to "you wear it well" and then there is " Rhythm of my heart" to "Mandolin Wind" many decades of hit after hit!!
Forever young... yes.
A young Turk is defined as someone who advocates for change. A rebel against the established way of doing things. Basically he was telling this generation (80's) to be themselves and not to let people change them or tell them what to do.
One of my favorites from him!!!!❤❤❤
The "Young Turks" were the perpetrators of the Armenian genocide.
FIRE! 🔥 Im Born ‘76 and my brother Introduced this song to me when i was a young Teenager, and i have Always absolutely LOVED this Song, the Vibe is Just BEAUTIFUL! ❤ One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE SONGS EVER. Soooo Good
It's never let them change your point of view, not never change your point of view. Be the one to grow, not the one to be cultivated from the outside without thought. The point is to be receptive, not subservient.
Rod surely has a HUGE catalog of GREAT SONGS. ❤
Neverending...
Billy left his home with a dollar in his pocket and a head full of dreams
He said somehow, some way, it's gotta get better than this
Patti packed her bags, left a note for her mama, she was just seventeen
There were tears in her eyes when she kissed her little sister goodbye
They held each other tight as they drove on through the night, they were so excited
We got but one shot at life, let's take it while we're still not afraid
Because life is so brief and time is a thief when you're undecided
And like a fistful of sand, it can slip right through your hands
Young hearts be free tonight
Time is on your side
Don't let 'em put you down, don't let 'em push you around
Don't let 'em ever change your point of view
Paradise was closed so they headed for the coast in a blissful manner
They took a two room apartment that was jumping every night of the week
Happiness was found in each other's arms as expected, yeah
Billy pierced his ears, drove a pickup like a lunatic, ooh
Young hearts be free tonight
Time is on your side
Don't let 'em put you down, don't let 'em push you around
Don't let 'em ever change your point of view
Come on Billy
Woo
Young heart, be free tonight
Time is on, on your side
Billy wrote a letter back home to Patti's parents tryin' to explain
He said we're both real sorry that it had to turn out this way
But there ain't no point in talking when there's nobody listening, so we just ran away
Patti gave birth to a ten pound baby boy, yeah
Young hearts be free tonight
Time is on your side
Young hearts be free tonight
Time is on your side
Young hearts be free tonight
Time in on your side
Young hearts gotta run free, be free, live free
Time is on, time is on your side
Time, time, time, time is on your side
Is on your side, is on your side
Young heart be free tonight
Tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight, yeah
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Rod Stewart - Maggie May - Tonight's the Night - Infatuation - Hot Legs - The First Cut is the Deepest - Passion - Stay with Me - Some Guys have all the Luck - You're in my Heart
This song helped me get a speeding ticket back in the day!!! Gas pedal music!! I love it!!!!!
This come out in 1981,
Check out the video 1978 called I was only Joking from the Footloose & Fancy Free Album ❤
What I always got from the "Don't ever let them change your point of view" lyric is don't let someone talk you out of what you know or feel is best for you. Stay true to yourself.
Rod Stewart is the MAN you should listen to more. He has been a rebel
Love Rod Stewart-saw him live several times, late 70's/80's - he rocks! Faves are Sailing, Every Picture Tells a Story, First Cut is the Deepest, Tonight's the Night....many more❤🔥
I love early Stewart not spandex solo Stewart
Every picture Tells A Story ,yes great song...
And at 78 he still bops around when he sings this in concert ✌️
Rod Stewart wrote the following in his autobiography:
"As the 1980s began, I faced musical challenges on a number of fronts. As far as music critics were concerned, I was about as welcome as a hole in a parachute. 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?' and the surrounding hoopla had convinced the music writers that I had been led astray forever by the glitter of the disco ball and the Hollywood lifestyle and was irredeemable."
Funny stuff!!! 😀
That sunset in the video always gets me! It adds to the youthful feeling. Love my 80's ❤
Ahh. The 80s resurgence. Rods a fun wormhole to fall into. Check out Maggie May his first big solo hit. The "don't let em change your point of view" I alway took as don't lose your youthful idealism
One of my favorite songs by him is The Motown Song, but he has so many songs u would love! This old heart of mine, Ooh La la, Maggie May, My heart can't tell you no, Downtown train, Reason to believe, Rhythm of my heart, Forever young, Have I told you lately that I love you....The list goes on and on!
Rod Stewart is a musical chameleon. He has produced so many different sounds, it's impossible to pin him down with any one sound as his "defining" type.
What's funny is that his voice itself doesn't change that much -- very signature vocal quality no matter the decade -- but the song choices and musical styles are all over the map. My favorite thing about him is the vitality he brings to his music. He's a survivor in an industry that burns up and burns out thousands of artists. Still having the time of his life and sharing that joi de vivre with his fans. All hail SIR Roderick!
What he actually said was don't LET THEM change your point of view. If you decide to change make sure it is your choice. Big difference
Was in 6th grade when this came out. Couldn’t ever catch and record the whole song off the radio with my cassette recorder. Different times.
hong-kong,,, tokyo,,, ( passion) from roderick stewart,,,,,is a another one banger,,,,🤘🤘🤘
Rod was in the band Faces before going solo. Their song “Stay With Me” is a great rock song!
My favorite Rod Stewart song! This song was so romantic when we were young. You realized you grew up when you saw it differently, and that running away and becoming broke young uneducated parents wasn't that romantic. 🤣🤣
His first album came out in 69! This guy has rocked in seven decades now!! I liked his appearance in carpool karaoke with A$ap Rocky!
"Tonight I'm Yours" is another great song from this time period. Stewart is criticized a lot by his older fans that think he sold out, but I love his 80's and 90's rock period.
Ven though I love his older songs,I would never say he sold out.Everything he sings is GOLD!💛
@@maryannturton9830 I agree - never understood fans who wanted their artists to do the same kind of stuff for 60 years. I'd rather watch an 80-year-old Stewart doing stuff from the great American song book than watch an 80-year-old Jagger doing street fighting man.
Forever Young - the best message in a song parent to child
Maggie May has always been my favorite Rod Stewart song.
First time I heard that song, I was hooked. It was 1981, I was 13, and it thought me a life lesson that I still apply to this day:
Don't let them put you down
Don't let 'em push you around
Don't let 'em ever change your point of view...
This is not only one of my favorite Rod Stewart songs it is probably in my top 10 of favorite songs period.
Nice reaction. Talented man and athlete. He was on track to be a professional soccer player but never got out of Semi-pro. He used to kick a soccer ball into the audience until someone's pumpkin got smashed and sued.
In the late 80s, Rod Stewart recorded "Downtown Train", a cover of the Tom Waits song from 1985. Rod's cover of this song is awesome! 😊
This was actually the first video to premiere on MTV that featured breakdancing
Rod Stewart is a top tier musical artist, over 60 years of hits! You could react to his songs alone for the next year! Reason to Believe,Sailing,Hot Legs,The Killing of Georgie,Handbags and Gladrags,The First Cut is the Deepest,Tonight's the Night,If Loving You is Wrong...🎙🎶🤩
Holy smokes! 80s Rod Stewart! Awesome! Takes me back to my childhood. 😊
"Infatuation" is awesome.
"Baby Jane", "My Heart Can't Tell You No"
Dude, you need to listen to Rod & Jeff Beck doing a cover of Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready"... SO GOOD!!
Young Turks definition: a young person, full of new ideas and impatient for change. I love Rod Stewart!
The girl that played "Patti" in the video is Elizabeth Daily who went on to a long career spanning from Rugrats to Valley Girl to video games to singing to a bunch of stuff.
Rod Stewart made all kinds of music he’s still singing today . Most of the rock and roll bands did this
Rob Stewart has so many amazing songs, I can't choose which one is my favorite ☺️
The magic of Rod…Always stayed relevant with the times. This is the 80’s
For your babies…Forever Young!
I've always been a Rod a Stewart fan since my 20s Finally my husband took me to see him on my 50th birthday! There were people in their teens all the way up to 80s! Everybody!
One of my favorites,
Love Rod! Saw him in concert 3 times once in 1981 and twice in Vegas when he was around 70 yrs old. Fantastic every single time! Definitely check out more! I love his albums of standards! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
He’s so awesome!!! Thanks for doing this! 🎉
Love Rod so many great songs since early 79’s! He’s still doing concerts
I remember seeing this the first time on an American Bandstand Special
My favorite Rod Stewart song. It came out when I was living in the Florida Keys. I was just out of college..
Rod Stewart is one of the world’s sexiest men…….EVER!! I cannot explain it! It’s just so!! Great choice! “Maggie Mae” is a must! I just love his energy. I saw him live! TWICE!! Great performer!! I agree with you that we need to be open to change! 🌺✌️
Check out Rod in "faces". Stay with me....great tune
Seconded
I danced with my son to Forever Young at his wedding. He will be forever young in my heart!❤❤😢😢
Edit
Downtown Train and Sailing are two of my favorites. I saw Rod 3 times in the 80's & 90's. Soooo sexy!
The 80s VIBES WERE TOP ....
I saw Rod Stewart live… he was so energetic and smooth
My parents being immigrants from Laos they grew up on 80s music, my mom always told me it was the time to be alive and young. They had so much fun dancing to MJ, Madonna, Paula Abdul, Rod Stewart and all these classic 80s tracks.
Love that you're so into new experiences with music you've never heard before. I'm your age and about 90% of the songs you react to are so nostalgic for me! Thanks for the recovered memories!
Forever Young is my FAVORITE Rod Stewart song. I was a teenager when Hot Legs, Do Ya Think I'm Sexy,, etc came out. Love Rod Stewart. When he put out Forever Young my kids were very young. Didn't really hit, the way it does now that my kids are grown.
I saw Rod Steward in the 70's during his Tonight's the Night Tour!!! He wore pink from top to bottom and was SO cool! That was a great concert .... almost as good as Alice Cooper's, Welcome to My Nightmare Tour! When I was in college in 1971, Maggie May was on the jukebox in the rec building and played ALL the time!
I love how you “get” the lyrics in all of these songs, especially this one. As far as getting your wild out when you’re young, that’s a valid point. But, also, building a life takes building a foundation first, then continuing to build from there, throughout life to have a secure future. Best to build that foundation when you’re young and have that energy to do it.
Hot Legs or Forever Young....
Hot Legs for sure!!
Do I have to pick just one having hot Legs or be forever young?
Love Forever Young, but Maggie May will always be my #1 Rod Stewart song
@nellienet Amen 🙏 sister. Forever Young is the one that made him relevant in 89. Maggie May is a fantastic one that started him out in the mid 70s. If you want to hear how diverse he can be listen to Do Ya Think I'm Sexy from 1979. Really different.😮
@@jonstreng7850 sister?
“There ain’t no point in talkin’ if there’s nobody listenin’, so we just ran away.” That’s the one line that stands out to me the most - is that in the spirit of the song’s message, or does it symbolize youthful immaturity? Great song - my favorite by Rod Stewart.
Definitely check out Rod’s “The Killing of Georgie Psrts 1 & 2” and “Foolish Behaviour”.
The man, the myth, the man with the shag hair-cut. Rod Stewart. His music got me laid so many times back in the day it's crazy.
My favorite ❤️ ❤❤❤
Don’t ever let them change your point of view not don’t ever change your point of view 😊
Being a big Motown fan, I love Rod Stewart’s The Motown Song. Thanks for the great reaction. 👏👏🥰
Agree on the changing your point of view as we evolve and learn more.
I bought the album, A Night on the Town because my father forbade me to listen to Tonight's the Night.
One of my favourite with Rod Stewart ❤❤❤
That gritty and gravelly voice is perfection. You should check out his great standards stuff. His voice is perfect for those old classic beautiful songs.
One of my favorite Rod Stewart songs is Stay With Me. By the time it ends, you are almost worn out. It jams from start to finish. I didn't appreciate him nearly enough when I was young, but I really turned into a huge fan as an adult. Listen to the Great American Songbook album. He can do anything.
First Cut is the Deepest and Your in My Heart - PLEASE ❤
“Patty gave birth to a 10 lbs baby boy” That baby boy is 42 yo now. lol Such a great song & video.
Congratulations BP on 300. Great content, keep doing amazing. ❤️❤️❤️. And love to your beautiful family. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾👵🏼 Gmaw
FOREVER YOUNG you mentioned, a track i had played at my younger brothers funeral, both of us RS fans and went to concerts together. A great track like so many to choose from his career
Yay, I was hoping you would react to this song. It is one of my favorite Rod Stewart song.
Love Maggie!
Rod Stewart is the best!! You should listen to his song "Angel". It is sooooo good! ❤
I saw Rod twice in the 80s and he always put on a Great show! Very energetic, always kicking soccer balls in the crowd(he doesn`t anymore I heard because he kept getting sued, lol) Very entertaining besides all of the awesome music he has! Try Tonight I`m Yours ,Infatuation, Some Guys Have All The Luck,Baby Jane,Rhythm Of My Heart,,,,oh there`s so many more but I`m going to stop, definitely worth exploring more!
just to let you know, rod's and alphaville's "forever young" are two completely different songs.
i have loved rod stewart since a tween and he has so many fabulous songs. his 1974 - 1983 period was his golden age imo. "young turks" is just about peak rod, for me. he's got a rock 'n roll voice, style, and swagger that just doesn't work with jazz, american standards and big band that seem to be his realm now.
Rhythm Of My Heart is another great Rod Stewart song.
As someone who just added to his family, I think you would be moved by the official video of Forever Young. Wonderful song that is a map for raising children.
Rod Stewart is one of the most iconic musicians of the 80s... One of his biggest claims to fame is having the largest concert crowd in history! In 1994, he put on a free concert on Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Beach, where 3.5 million people showed up! How's that for superstardom?
I've loved him since the 70s and seen him many times through the 70s, 80s and 90s. Such a great song, and yes, first video with break dancing
One of my favorite s
I love Rod - he’s the best!
Many of the great rock bands when I bought their albums, had to listen to them on what were called " underground stations" ,college radio stations cause they weren't main stream yet...these were the true fans that helped build their record and concert sales up and stuck with them through the years( most of them)...
The 80's was an "AWSOME" TIME to be a " FREE YOUNG HEART" !!!!!
Can you check out - Letters From Home by John Michael Montgomery! Thanks BP
Excellent point on changing point of view. I have been listening to Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon since 1973. Specifically, the song “Time” means something different to be about every 10 years. Now, at age t4 and having had cancer for 6hears it has really changed.
This is but one small example. Obviously you meant a broader range of things affected by age, wisdom, having a family to protect, love and loss. Great point.
Great song from Rod.
I love this song because of Gran Tourismo 3, clockin made laps pumping this on the sound track, makes me speed up still when it comes on in my car. Watch Maggie May as well.
My fav Rod Stewart song!
Huge rabbit hole to go down with Rod awesome artist funny starting as a grave digger early life 😂 he did some awesome work on the vagabond heart album worth a look see the transformation over his many years in music this guy is a true icon
Different Forever Young. Very good song, especially to a parent. Check it out.
Great reaction as always. Did you catch Jeff Beck in the pink pants? Yes, Jeff Beck! We had so much talent in our music back then. (I’m 70 and lived these songs). ❤
Rod Stewart is my teens and early 20s. God the memories, it was a great time to be alive!
I actually got to co-write with one of the writers of this song Kevin Savigar I asked him to sign my 45 record, and he said I think I had the flip side too, he did great guy! He also co-wrote Forever Young w Rod and played Keyboards for him!
"Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" is a departure from his 'rockin style and is an amazing song!
Rod is one of the greats and this song is amazing! A song about a young couple wanting to be together and but feeling like their lives are being crushed by expectations and others pushing back against them so they ran away to be free, to be together and live how they wanted. The song is a rebellious song from the standpoint of being young. That you should enjoy your youth, live free and enjoy it while you can because time is short. In this story, the couple ends up having a kid and so their young freedom is likely to end. Responsibility and care for a baby is now going to be what their lives are about. In the end, while Rod does sing about not letting anyone change your point of view, it is from the point of view of someone young who at the time needs to resist what adults would push on you because this is the time to make those mistakes and learn from life. However, I also feel it speaks to the idea that as you get older that point of view is going to change you on its own. No need for anyone else to do it. Evolve as you grow in this life, not as someone else dictates. Great song! Rod can write and tell a story!
Same with people requesting Under Pressure (DavidBowie), Stairway To Heaven(LedZep), Chicago ,Queen, GrandFunk...all these bands people will always request their "hits"...True fans will want you to hear the early stuff..the stuff that made them noticed and loved in the 1st place by taking a chance and giving them a listen. The songs these bands wrote when they were passionate and hungry for fame.....those are the good songs. I bought albums many times in those days without ever hearing a song...lots of times based on their looks on the covers, lol How many know Ron Wood from the Stones was originally with Rod Stewart and the Faces...or Rod Stewart singing on Jeff Becks album TRUTH ..play AINT SUPERSTITIOUS ! Great song and Stewart not very known yet was listed on the album as vocal extraordinaire....
This is probably my favourite Rod Stewart song, and that's a hard thing to say. He has so many great hits, over multiple decades. A great rabbit hole for anyone.
Always enjoy your views/thoughts on these songs.
Glad ya gave the song time to get to the hook. This song brings you in to, like you stated, our young days and life.
Need to check out "Forever Young" as you are familiar with it, if the same song.
