So, fun story; in 2019 I saved up and flew over, on my own, from London to the USA for the first time in my life, to go to the 2019 Petit Le Mans with some racecar buddies of mine. And as a lifelong Corvette Racing fan, I mostly went just so I could experience the C7R GTE in person before it was retired. But really, while that entire weekend was incredible, it also felt like I witnessed the final swansong of the GTE class altogether. It was also the last race ever for the Ford GTs, the BMW Thicc M8s would scale back and eventually be retired within two years, and it was also the very last race for this generation of 911 RSR. The Porsche team ran the throwback Coca-Cola paintschemes for that weekend, and trust me, there is NOTHING in the world that sounds ANYTHING CLOSE to those howling monsters. I went so I could experience the rumbling roaring Corvette V8s in person. But the screaming Porsches mixed in with them? Just about the best sound I've ever experienced in my life. And these beasts were SO LOUD. Like, so ear-splittingly loud my ears were still ringing when I touched down back home 36 hours after the race. Just pure magic. The 2010s should be remembered amongst other things as the glory era for GTE racing, and getting to experience it first hand is a memory I'll cherish forever.
I went to Le Mans 24 hours in 2017 when these RSRs first came out and I’m with you nothing sounds like it, I was expecting the V8 rumble of the Astons and the Corvettes but the 911 blew me away. So happy I got to hear it in person
@@andrewpowell9304I saw the last year or second to last year of the GTE I know they weren’t as loud then. But last year I went to a hsr event and they had a 2017 GT3R that was the loudest thing I’ve heard , I think it was even slightly louder than the 767B at the same event
At this point in the race I was watching at the exit of Mulsanne corner. I’d gone as far along the straight as you were allowed. All you could see was headlight, all you could hear was exhaust. An experience that will always live with me.
Haha! That first car in an homage to the 1971 917/20 which was known as ‘the pink pig’ and ‘the truffle hound of Zuffenhausen’. It was a one-off which was basically a 917K with modified 917LH bodywork and was driven by Reinhold Joest and Willi Kauhsen. It was crashed during the night and was forced to retire. This is the first time I’ve seen that distinctive livery since.
WEC Le Mans 2018 is the best sound ever, you literally can hear every car in TV and home screen of any electronic device. Even the quiet sounds of Ferrari, BMW and Aston you still can hear it.
I got the chance to hear this engine on the the last WEC 6h race on Nürburgring in 2017. My ears drumhead was hammering till it hurts but it was worth it. Incredible Sound. Thanks for the upload ♥
I was in the grandstand for the 2018 race. The Porsches all 10+ of them I believe across lm and am were heard round the track. The only car that came close in sound was the mighty c7.r
still love the "SAU GER!!!" on the backwindow of the #92. SAU in german is pig as a reference to the design. GER for Germany. In Comibnation Sauger - short form of Saugmotor which is german for Natural Aspirated engine.

You'd think! Never that simple and even the most capable race cars have limits or break randomly. I don't have much time to watch races these days but I always find time to watch at least a little of this one every year. Always something happening.
Sort of. David Cheng started DC Racing before David met Jackie and he became a co-owner of the team (though I recall hearing that he didn't fund the team but helped them find sponsors or something). The team went 1-2 in the LMP2 class at Le Mans in 2017 and was 2-3 overall (this was the year there was a solid chance of having no LMP1 on the overall podium as reliability problems plagued the whole class). The team pulled back in 2020 due to COVID but were supposed to make a comeback in IMSA in 2023... which didn't happen and that's the last I've heard about the team.
