Great review, thanks for sharing. I think it’s a close tie between the two. If ryobi could use solar panels then I would go ryobi just because of the size and weight, I like how it’s smaller and the type c ports since I’m starting to notice stuff in our home using type c I feel it will become more and more popular over time. Nice review. I'm about six months late seeing this, but the specs regarding 4500w, 1800w, 1600w basically means the "surge" of electric it can handle is 4500w (usually for a few seconds), then it will begin to stabilize at 1800w and can stay there for 3 minutes. If the load stays at 1800w passed 3 minutes, the spec sheet would indicate that it should shut down as a precautionary measure. If the load goes to 1600w or less, then it should be able to sustain that continuously.
Good video though. Very informative on these products.

Parallel port uses cable AUN9230TT to connect 2 generators and you get 30amp 120v available which is regularly used with an RV. It can be any 2 ryobi generators including their gas generators.

The video could have been more clear about the batteries. A 7.5 amp hour battery from Ryobi doesn’t have as much power as a EGO since EGO is 56 volts compared with the Ryobi 40.

I like the Ryobi 40v stuff. I think a lot of it is actually pretty good for the price. I know EGO is a better, albeit more expensive product and my 40v Ryobi tools have always done what I needed them to do. I do wish Ryobi’s website and instructions were better, they’re both terrible. I have to wonder what this thing would do with four 12AH batteries, I know running wattage wouldn’t change but I bet the runtime would be awesome. I have always wondered about whether Ryobi handicapped themselves by going with 40v as opposed to 56/60/80 of their competitors. Now that the 80V line is officially launched I find it hard to believe that Ryobi spent the considerable time and money to bring that platform out just for the riding mowers. I’m wondering what they do next. As decent as this power station is, the EGO is undoubtedly better, imagine if Ryobi comes out with an 80V powered model. Gonna be pricey though. Maybe too pricey. Thanks for the awesome video and review.

Don’t have a lot of confidence in Ryobi batteries. They seem to have a problem discharging so low that they won’t recharge. I have contacted them about it and they claim they never heard about any problems. Yet if you go out on You Tube you can find some works around so that tells me that it’s quit common. Thanks for the video. The Ryobi is one of the very few devices like this which is actually available for sale here in Australia. I actually have the smaller 300w side on inverter which has been great but the most moronic thing about that unit is the USB and AC output only have a single switch. So if you just want to charge your phone. the AC inverter sitting there idling actually wastes more power than you are using via USB! Def like that this unit has dedicated switch for the AC output. And with the USB C ports. Means one can charge say a macbook direct off USB C which is much more efficient than doing to AC then back to DC with the power brick.
I do wish however that Ryobi had of just put an AC in on this thing. So stupid do have a little plug pack like that, and one with a propitiatory connector. Im sure the charging speed is rather slow too. Doubt if you even had like 4 decent sized batteries on it, it would be able to fully charge them all overnight. I can see that getting lost/broken/hard to every buy a new one type of thing. I cant imagine it would of added much bulk to the unit to just have a standard figure 8/IEC etc type AC in.

    • @ZeoCyberG
      @ZeoCyberG 3 года назад +3

Don't go by the rating on the coffee maker, they tend to keep peaking during operation and when cold started it'll have a higher than normal load to get everything warmed up but then the load drops as it takes less energy to run once it's warmed up. Krueg indicates 1500 Watts on their site but with peaking it can easily be higher. While the meter on the Ryobi is more a running average. So you should get a watt meter to see what the actual running load is to compare...

Hmmm…if using this during a power outage, have to leave for work and want to be sure that your refrigerator is being powered while you’re gone…would you have to also plug in your modem and router to have wifi connectivity? That sounds counterintuitive.

Great review but the biggest problem with these power stations that no one is talking about is this is a very poor option for a power outages unless you remember to charge the batteries first, and no one ever knows when an outage will occur. Remember, Ego DOES NOT recommend keeping the batteries stored charged and in fact they automatically will discharge after 30 days. You could of course put the solar panels outside and wait a day or two for the batteries to charge :)

The down side to just draining one at a time is that it can very easily lead to overheating the battery when at high loads, and lithium batteries really don't like that.
That's also the reason that the Ego limits output when running one or two 2.5AH batteries.

13500btu with 100% efficiency is 1970watts. The ego "could" run that, but $1400 worth of batteries would be drained in 30 minutes. This stuff is designed for electronics or burst high wattage like running a power tool, maybe a toaster oven for camping, etc.

With a name like money I’m sure you can afford 4 x 7.5ah batteries
Both of these have enough wattage to start and run an average refrigerator but it’s then going to be about batteries and how long they will keep the refrigerator on, see the note below to help
      Website
      paylesspower.com/blog/how-many-watts-does-a-refrigerator-use/
      Note
Conventional refrigerators typically have a starting wattage of 800-1200 watt-hours/day, and a running wattage of around 150-watt hours/day. Refrigerators are reactive devices that require additional power to start because they contain an electric motor, but significantly fewer watts to run as they remain on

I just want to let people know about a defect in this product the first run was fine but the second or third run has a defect to find out if you have a defective unit simply shut the unit off unplug it from the wall place for batteries in the unit and wait 7 to 10 days if one of the batteries has one or even two lights off it means that there is some type of a short and that has drained one of the batteries in addition to this slot draining the battery you will get 50% or more less runtime then you should get that is because of the defect it is usually in slot three so simply check to see the charge of that battery compared to the other ones you will see that you can store batteries in this unit for months and you should have no problems but if you have a defective unit it will drain one of the battery’s dead within 10 to 20 days if you leave the battery in for a long period of time like 30 days the battery will be killed and it will never take a charge again if this happens to you whether the battery is 1/2 or even three years old ryobi should replace the battery for free even if the battery is brand new the defective unit can destroy the battery very quickly it will do no damage in 10 to 20 days but in that links of time you will see that it will drain the battery dead this will show you you have a defective unit but the worst part is that the unit will not give you its proper runtime either you Will lose more than half of the runtime that you normally would get
