    Love the added drone brood frames. Personally a lot of people like to yank them out these days and destroy the brood or give it to the chickens, but even though that does help against varroa. I really believe that having loads of drones is way better in the long term in terms of sperm quality in terms of well mated tQueens in terms of longevity of the Queen laying . I agree with you completely. Lovely to see the crew grafting again I can see you’re all got that spring buzz about you. We are dogged down with the weather, system after weather system at the moment and I’m struggling to get boxes out onto Bees. Thanks for the video it’s give me a bit of encouragement LOL.🫶🙌😎 🐝

    $275 for one of those singles is a great deal! Slap on a few supers and any of them can easily make enough honey to pay for themselves. Great work, Bob!
    I just came back from Las Vegas. It sad to see that so much hard work went into each hive and they are only $275 each. A stupid drink from a bar can easily be $20 each. Stupid hand bags? thousands!! What's wrong with this world?

    You could start your cells with the queen excluder, no need to block pheromone with a double screen board. As long as the queen is not walking around the frames surrounding the graft , I’ve seen no difference in take. It’s saved me a lot of workload in the cell builder yard.

Not sure I’m ready to bite off buying a breeder just yet and grafting, especially with my crazy work schedule but I definitely want to trend towards the heavier Caucasian genetics in my operation. Another great video! I must admit that probably 10,000 or so of the views on the Queen Rearing video are from me!
    I have seen some weather forecasts for the next several days predicting some significant snow in my area and as far south as the northeast corner of Georgia, not sure if you will see much of wintery weather as some of us in south-central Kentucky, but how would that affect your queen rearing? I had planned to graft this week but have postponed due to the threat of severe weather and then the wintry snap. Thanks for the wealth of information!

    I don’t rear many queens, I only run about 20 colonies and try to raise 10-15 nucs during the summer. I absolutely love this method of queen rearing and have to review the video each year before starting.

  • @wadeturner2665
    @wadeturner2665 2 месяца назад

    Bob, in using those frame feeders, and the various manipulations that you do with colonies, making splits, building nucs, finding deadouts, etc, do you ever end up with a feeder with a significant amount of syrup in it and no hive to put it on? If so, what do you do with it? They are not very easy to transport, store, or even pour into something else. I've resorted to just setting them out for open feeding, which isn't always the best thing to do.

There are some pricey versions out there, but also some eBay knockoffs as well. Hey Bob, your spacing between frames must be off, I never had problems with 36mm wide Hoffman spacing frames and drone brood, however, I only use wax foundation and the strong colonies usually modify the foundations so that they can build drone comb on the edges of their nests, I guess with plastic foundation they have to fill the worker foundation and draw it farther out.

    Hey Bob looks like some good success with the first graft. I am in Maryland and am trying to decide when will be a good time to graft I will be using your method with the double screen board. What type of temperatures at night do you like to see before you graft or is it mostly the size of the colony and the drone population that decide the time when you will graft?

    • @bobbinnie9872
      @bobbinnie9872  2 месяца назад

      Mostly the colonies and the drones. A strong cell builder will do it in cool weather.

      I've done both. Grafting into a queenrite double deep with the queen below an excluder will work but using a strong queenless starter box full of young bees or the method we use tends to give better cells in my opinion.
