We are switching from electric to propane for our stove. This stove will need no electricity to power it! In this video I will show you how I piped it.
The 2 stage regulator is not for safety. 2 stages are needed because you are trying to regulate the pressure down from around 120psi to 0.397psi that is zero POINT 397, just over 1/3 of one psi. It is just not possible to do that reduction accurately and economically in a single stage. Each stage does a reduction of around a factor of 10. The first stage takes the pressure from 120psi to 10psi and the second stage takes it from 10psi to 11 inches of water colum which is 0.397psi.
That is wonderful! What a perfect job. I love a gas/propane stove and I'm going to switch mine out too. I really like the 30 lb. tank you have there, I don't think I have seen them here, just the smaller and larger ones. I've been looking at a very small stove, it's only 20" - 24" wide and it's really nice. I have missed gas/propane for many years, and it cooks so much better, and faster too. Years ago you didn't have shut off valves, and I know nothing about them, so I'm going to have to check on the codes for the oven. I'm really glad you mentioned it. benchmade55 I always try to find "made in USA" and they are few and far between. I will check them out. The one I saw was at Lowes, but I haven't done real searching yet, but will want it right after Christmas, good sales then too. One thing your videos on this has done for me is, that it assured me that I will have to have them install it, and make the conversions too. I have done a lot on appliances in my homes, but I will not fool with propane, it needs more experience than what I have with propane for an oven. +Homestead Handyman This in itself is very helpful, was struggling to find a 24 inch range and not only are they 24 inch, but made in the United States. Further, great tank solution for a stove and avoids the 100 pound, or worse, a huge tank in the yard.
Looks sooo nice and I’m so glad to have found this, otherwise I would never have thought of using a smaller set up. I too, live in the country, well actually in the mountains and when we get snow and ice we can lose our power fast and as you say, there’s no way to cook and with only electric in the kitchen it is freezing, and a gas range will generate a little heat. I have a pretty big house and 1/2 of it is heated by electric and the other half is heated by propane, so I already have a 200 gallon tank on one side of my home and I have been stressing 😩 over adding another tank to the other end of my home. Now, that I’ve seen your convenient little trick, I realized that the same set up would serve me well❗️And, thanks for the tip on the type of range to buy. I had originally installed 3/4" black pipe with 1/2" nipples for my appliances then decided not to use gas. That was a number of years ago. Now I want to use a propane stove and have the 30# tanks but can't seem get the stove to light after my installation. Everything has been pressure tested, soaped and it's all tight. Is it possible that there isn't enough pressure in the line to keep the propane moving? My regulator shows that the tank is empty and I just filled them.
I just did something similar, though added 2 100 lb tanks with CSST running through attic ProFlex Flak Jacket. I see you did not ground or bound the tanks. Why not?

I've been looking for a long while, to find out why most indoor propane 'fireplaces' usually require using a 100LB tank. I have a 10.16 small cabin I want a 10,000 btu propane log fireplace in. But most places I've looked, say to go with a blue flame wall heaters b/c you can use smaller (40, 30 & even 20LB ) tanks with. But I really want a propane log fireplace and, I see you're using 2 smaller tanks for a stove. So, I'm just trying to find out what I must do, to be able to use smaller tanks for a "Fireplace." Most folks say you have to have the pressure of a 100LB tank which you don't get w/a smaller tank. Can a regulator give you the pressure of a 100LB tank? Or is there something else one can do, to use smaller tanks dependably & safely? It's nice to hear that you've been doing this with your stove for a while. But that is a little bit different than a ventless fireplace. Would really appreciate any help in this matter. Thx!

They make a better regulator for $50 that RVs use in a dual tank setup. It pulls gas from one tank and when it's empty it switches to the other tank. The bonus is it has an indicator for which tank is empty. Also, you can remove the empty tank while it's still working and take it to be filled so you don't run out of gas.

I get 2-3 months out of a tank for my family of 3 on a 20 lb tank. Now I have 2 30s with a switching regulator. I have a gas range but am moving the dryer, water heater and my fireplace to gas (for heating) here in FL.
Where did you get the brass fittings: a) the part that T's out of the regulator? b) the two that fit on that T fitting? c) the ones that hook to the propane tanks? Trying to reproduce your set up but having a bit of a time finding those fittings where I live.
The copper pipes that are coming out of the tanks are one size and are called Copper POL pig tails. And the copper coming out of the regulator looks like 1/2 inch.
Properly operated it will not produce carbon monoxide. Unless a home is so airtight it needs an air exchanger any fumes from operation will not be a problem
GOOD JOB. It will be much better if u used black pipe its more stronger even the coper L TYPE meant to be for refrigeration and gas. Try to put some insulation to help u out with pressure changes
So many things to comment on and I haven't even finished the video! First, I think examining the fire code will find the tanks are too close to the foundation vent In use of gas leak or a relief valve opening do you really want to chance gas getting under the house? The regulator is positioned wrong. The vent needs to be straight down. They was it is mounted moisture could be trapped inside the regulator. Where the line goes trough the wall should be sleeved so the line is protected. Oh, and type L is not hard copper
Regulations can be difficult. Most states have adopted NFPA Pamphlet 58 for outdoor fuel gas piping and Pamphlet 54 for indoor. But the states usually adopt a certain edition. For instance Illinois has adopted Pamphlet 58 2011 edition. For the most part there won't be a difference. But a newer edition may allow or not allow things the earlier didn't. When you download the free version at www.nfpa.org/assets/files/aboutthecodes/58/58-98-pdf.pdf you get the 1998 version. You need to know what edition applies to your situation. Understanding them involves a bit studying and looking for the exceptions. I'll mention this now since it hasn't been addressed much. With limitations (distance from ignition sources, windows, vents, etc) a tank under 125 gallons can be right up against the house. But over that it needs to be at least 10 feet away and 25 is better. Speaking as a volunteer fire fighter I like a 25 foot minimum And you still have state and local regulations. Some municipalities my not allow certain things. Plus you said "pro kitchen". That implies commercial use which then typically involves the health department and more regulations.
My new house has utility gas but no gas stove. I want a gas grill for outdoor cooking, but chances are, even in NG served Prince George, most grills are propane. Wat do?

I had it hooked up like that for 20 years to and just recently they said "you can't do that" crazy because I live in a small country looking town but the democrats started winning here in the last 4 years and now they go after everyone including raising property taxes. Makes me want to move.
suggestions.. but this is a 5 year old video... 🤔 anyways.. i suggest for looks i would clear away growing grass & weeds. level ground.. put down a good weed barrier.. then 16" x 16" paving stones.. and for storm safety strap tanks to the wall as enough to hold from falling but loose to remove to refill. also i suggest NEVER put any fitting inside home like couplings or T fittings. ive seen flare fittings leak. and ive seen people use compression " water only " fittings used 😱 OH... and to add VERY IMPORTANT.... personally ive had more than once gas shutoff valves fall apart or leak.. AND those screw on at the tank dial gauge meter to show remaining gas in tank.. i had one pouring gas out as i turned it on NEW so i dont recommend them.. total fire hazzard.
Is the pistol there in case the camera attacks you. BTW: The pressure in the tank is the same whether the “sun is beating down” or not. Also, the piping should be iron not copper. Copper is too soft and subject to damage.

What size line did you use from the outside regulator? The only two stage changeover regulator I could find had a 3/8 “ outlet. Good video!

Those are not “better” this particular regulator is very high quality now you maybe talking about convenience and if that’s the case you are correct

We bake or own bread and use the stove a lot. We get about 3-4 months per 30 lb tank

We go through one tank every 3-4 months. But keep in mind we cook a lot of high temp bread.

You can buy grills that are setup for natural gas!

Also if hes like me, we have black bears, coyote, mountain lion, copperhead ...damn sttaight we carry gun outside...especially when doing a several your project focused on our work all the while jammed and trapped in a corner of our home with our back turned. I cant say how many times ive almost been surprised by an animal. Maybe think b4 u speak. Not everybody lives in a culdesac with mcdonalds 2 miles away.......and I thank God for that :-)
