God bless, and see you in the next video :)
I just ordered a tea pot that comes with an infuser. I can't see why having the infuser immersed in the pot with the coffee would be a problem - just pull it out after a couple minutes so you don't brew it too long. No?
I think so. Then it's got a bit of that French press technique.
I've been using my tea infuser basket for coffee for a long time. Nice to see someone else thinks this is a legit way to brew coffee.
great minds .... 👍
Are you still using this ? Does the filter eventually clog up? Or have you found anything better
Me too. Making so much more coffee at home during COVID, I tried a few things... This was the easiest. It works fine without the long method but now I'm curious to see if I can improve this simple option!
Thank you for the flat-bottom paper filter tip. I just picked up filters at Costco and I was concerned about the shape but now I see I'm right on track. Now to get a tea infuser basket!
Thank you, I've been using this technique after watching your video. The coffee is as delicious. No more need for paper filter and filter holder. You have a multipurpose filter that will last a long time.
ok, I just joined the pour over club and started with a metal cone filter. It was challenging to say the least. Then I started hunting on RUclips for tips and ran across your video. I own a smaller tea infuser the same shape as yours. I brewed a cup and WOW! Thank you. It was easier, faster and better tasting than my other attempts. I'm glad I stumbled upon this video because I want to get away from our single serve brewer. It's expensive and wasteful in my opinion. So now I and looking to purchase the infuser you used. Cheers!
So glad to hear it +Crista grote ! The right tools and technique make it less of a chore and create a more enjoyable coffee experience :) Thanks for watching and happy brewing!
I just put the infuser in the mug of boiling water. Less mess. Great coffee!!!
24oz widemouth mason jar. 40 grams of Coffee grinded just under drip coffee. 590 grams of water at 200 Fahrenheit
Pouring starts at 5:16
Iv been using that same tea filter for almost 15 years
Dave!!! Stumbled upon your channel looking to make a better cuppa coffee with my Keurig. I just happened to make a trip to Daiso and again, stumbled upon a large tea brew basket. I couldn’t snatch it up fast enough!
My hack- Add a coffee filter into my basket, basket w/grounds into a mason jar, and under my Keurig... A GREAT CUPPA COFFEE!!!
I have been saved!
Thank you for sharing! You’re the man! Lol!
On to the next vid. You have a new subbie.
Blessings.
Tenaj! So glad you found me and hacked your way to coffee bliss :) Blessings back atcha! :D
Thanks for the demo. Only one who drinks coffee in my home and looking to replace Keurig and alternative to stove top. This looks awesome! 😊
$60 is insane! Thanks for this alternative.
Omg you are too adorable. I'm new to the pour over coffee method. Thanks for your video
This is awesome! My wife and I live in a small apartment. And between our drinking glasses, Nurtibullet cups, Pourover, Carafes, etc, our cupboard has no room for anything. Doing research, I pretty much found that there's a hack, lid, attachment or adapter for everything to use with a mason jar. So we're getting just a handful of jars in various sizes, a bunch of lids, and gonna replace it all. Thanks for the tip! I have a mason jar cold brewer that works on a similar principle so I'm looking forward to trying out your hot coffee method! Looks like the filter doubled in price though!
Covid-pricing for all of us who are doing our part and staying at home no doubt! But worth it as the stainless steel filter will last a lifetime. Thanks for watching and happy brewing!
Ditching my Aeropress today to try your method... Enjoy your coffee, Dave!
Honoured +Ryan Choo !! Hope you enjoyed your java :)
Great video and you just seem to be the happiest person on the planet earth! I have similar tea infuser at home, but it is a lot smaller. I think I should give it a go for coffee.
Thanks +Tuomo Kallio ! I have a lot to be thankful for LOL! Re: smaller strainer for coffee. Definitely worth a try! If making just one cup, you may have to experiment with a much finer grind, as I've found the steep times much shorter with less beans in the filter. Happy brewing!
@@dqstudios I hope you don't mind but you are so happy that I don't like you and you seem like such a happy and good natured and understanding person you seem like you would really understand. Thanks in advance. I now hate you guilt free.
PS I don't like the taste if it doesn't go through a paper filter but I don't hate people for disagreeing over that and don't mind if people get really upset over people who do.
I LOVE YOUR PERSONALITY DAVE.
Thank you Mimi .... You may be the only one :D CHEERS and happy brewing :)
Dave, I approve.
I really like this hack. I will definitely keep it in mind. I too roast my own coffee. I keep everything simple. Tin can drum coffee roaster, Hario slim mill grinder, and a French press.
Sounds heavenly!! Happy brewing :)
I liked it when your face was talking through the top of the Chem-X glass. That was funny. 😀😀
Me too! LOL! Thanks for watching and happy brewing :)
Along the same hack line, I ditched my Mr coffee 4cup since it leaked within 9m. I saved the basket, pulled out the plug, saved the caraf, and BAMmmm, instant pour over equipment. Already had the filters, which I prefer using due to clean up factor, and simply applied the learned pour over technique's taught by my father 40y ago. Perfecto! ! The whole set up cost o$ except for the 19$ originally shelled out last March. M, Il
Nice hack!! Happy brewing!!
Try latina double mesh metal cone. No any particle or oil comes thru because the bottom is closed not open, and the double mesh filter better. No need paper
They do sell an unbleached beige colored Chemex filter. I haven't tried the cone filter for Chemex yet but I've just ordered one that should fit into the Chemex beaker decanter. I believe that Chemex does have their own automatic pour over as well. David's tea (a Canadian company with stores also in the US) make their own tea filter much like the ForLife tea filter that you show. Their version may be more economical for some and is fairly easy to find. Happy Brewing (both tea and coffee)!!!! Two of my favorite beverages!
You make me want to drink 9 cups of coffee this afternoon to get on your level! Just order my "tea" pour over. thx
I was using tea infusers for about 5 years now. Especially for wild camping. It won’t taste the same
But it’ll do.that’s why I’m checking this out.
Awesome! Great hack :)
People hate making filter coffee. By the time you get your coffee, it becomes ice cold. And what employed person has the time to wait for so long 3-4 times a day! Just pour the coffee in milk and boil it. Then strain it using a simple Indian tea strainer. Coffee made in 1.5 min and tastes the same.
4:11 lol
$80. What an absolute joke. I bought two yesterday, one was $10. And the other was $28. I’ll let you know how they work. Thanks for the hack☺️
Well.. it probably won't give you such a smooth texture, since it doesn't quite filetr out the oils, fine particles and so on... But to everyone his own, right? :D
They do make green friendly papers that are brown
what time u drink coffee in the morning and in the afternoon . how many time u drink coffee in 1 day
wap kool
Blorp
subscribed you still using this? Did you come up with anything better? Did it clog up? Something I have noticed with reviews on double wall metal coffee filters is they all clog up. Haven’t found one without negative reviews complaining about this
all metal filters will clog up over time. a quick soak in coffee cleaner will make it as good as new :)
Hell yeah, pretty nice and very thankfull for the advice. Gotta try that directly
You're pretty cool. Thanks for the demo. I have been thinking along the lines of using one of those metal tea balls and immerse it in a cup of water. Not sure how that will work though. Happy Coffee Drinking to you!
and to you too! :)
I don't know much about coffee, so I'm not being facetious when I ask this, but... you spoke so often of the grinds being submerged/soaked - why not just French Press? Is this method tastier?
I love that giant Mad Scientist beaker thing you have!!!
Great question +Ramona Q. Like you I thought this pourover hack would produce a very similar cup to French Press, but it's remarkably different. French Press has a LOT more fines in it and produces a MUCH cloudier cup, no matter what grind I've tried. I think the full submersion of the grinds during the French Press extraction allows the fines to easily float into the finished cup. When using this pourover technique, however, the fines become part of the "filter" - some get stuck in the stainless steel mesh, aiding the filtration process while also producing a notably cleaner cup. Hope this makes sense :) And "taste" is truly very personal. Both methods can create great coffee, but this pourover technique creates a full-bodies cup which is cleaner than French Press. Happy #InternationalCoffeeDay !
+Dave Cheung Thank you! The only coffee I really like is Peaberry, and... I like the silt. O.o Idk how weird that is or not, but... it tastes like cocoa to me.
+ Ramona Q This is exactly why Peaberries are so highly prized. They are a genetic mutation but happen on every coffee farm/plantation. Historically, the growers horded them for themselves but eventually found them to be too valuable at market.
With a french press you can also make your coffe grinds to act as a filter. Just don't stir, and don't let them fall down.
My steps are following:
- put the coffee grinds into the french press glass
- pour the water. The coffee will float on top.
- put on a plunger, let it sit about 30 seconds, and press slowly through the coffee.
My cloudiness looks just like yours.
You can make the brew even cleaner if you add a paper filter under the plunger's net. Just make sure to give it a good rinse with a hot water to remove a taste of paper.
Technically, all you need is a reusable coffee filter and a wide mouthed carafe and you are good to go! I look at all these pour-over coffee carafes and I wonder how does one clean them?
Agreed. A bottle brush works, but is cumbersome. Just testing out a new reusable double-stainless steel filter that is the best I've used. Will be doing a review soon. Cheers and happy brewing!
This method is very close to vietnam fin
grindsize like aeropress? or a bit coarser?
Because the grinds act as part of the filter, experiment with grind until you hit the 3-4 minutes brew time. Aeropress is very forgiving of grind size so hard to base it off it.
Brilliant, man. We have two of those style tea infusers that we use all the time and I've been getting less and less jazzed by our aeropress as the plungers keep deteriorating making me wonder where all that rubber is going over time (the answer is in the coffee unfortunately) but anyhow... I've been thinking about doing this exactly! And now, I'm going to go do it right this moment!
Annnnnnd that's awesome. Near-perfect pour-over. I'll actually measure next time. :)
Glad you tried it and found success!!! How'd you like the resulting brew? More fines than paper, but I prefer it over french press :)
Totally agree - I thought it was an excellent pour-over and takes just as long to make just as much as much in our french press (or nearly as much but probably less time) without the bitterness of press but still plenty of the oils and granular goodness - less but just the right amount. Dig.
The video was great all the way until the end... should've at least taken a sip!
Anyways, great idea, am going to try it with my tea infuser.
Thanks.
LOL! Thanks for watching and believe me: I drank the whole thing ;) Blessings!
I have the same Chemex thingy but it seems like it weakens the taste. Maybe that is what it is supposed to do? and it doesn't brew as hot as I like it. I think this would be due to the amount of space it has to travel through.
+D Mp If you're using Chemex paper filters, it does extract a lot of the oils and sediment leaving a *very* clean cup. Definitely would recommend giving this hack a try especially since you love HOT coffee :)
How much sediment are you getting into the brew though? Those holes are pretty big and no matter how good the grinder you will always get fines.
About the same as french press. The grinder is key: the coffee grinds themselves become part of the strainer.
How do you clean the coffee grounds out of the tea steeper ?
how does this compare to Bodum pour over coffee maker with the steel filter?
Is that a regular sized tea strainer or is it larger?
Genius Love it!!! I can put a top on it and take it with me
Great video!!! Instant sub. Question: Could you use this exact method to collect coffee for cold brew? I see you using a mason jar, and I am tempted to do the same thing, but rather store the coffee for later in a fridge.
Thanks for the sub! And YES! Definitely will work for cold brew too. You may want to do another filtration through paper after to reduce fines.
do you use coarse- or medium-grind coffee?
definitely coarse
Far better hack (the best hack actually) is use a tea ball.
I found that reloading K-CUP screens makes perfect coffee.
Problem with the tea steepers is they're often made for the water to flow faster... to infuse their flavor to the water. Not for slowly brewing coffee. In other words, it flows too fast. Obviously some infusers will be made differently and work better for coffee than others. Not familiar with the FORLIFE one, but holes do look on the large size, just from the Amazon pics. Thought it should be mentioned.
Try it: you'll be surprised it will only require about the same grind as french press to create a total coffee making time of 3-4 minutes, which is typical of most brew methods.
great cheapo Chemex idea! Were you able to narrow down a grind size? is a coarse french press grind necessary to keep it from being muddy?
WOW! Subbed and liked.
Looks great. Dave how do you Roast your own Coffee Beans, what machine do you use? Let me know... Your a regular RUclips Star ! You have all the wright moves. Let me know,,, Thanks Bill
Thanks for the kind words :) Re: roaster. You know I did a video on it :) ruclips.net/video/7DgxDMynBLI/видео.html
Love it..can you do cold filter the same way?
Haven't tried cold-filtered this way, but can't see why not?
I just pour through a paper towel with beans in it into a mason jar
That looks like it would take forever haha! I bet it's damn good though!
+D Mp 4 minute total steep time = par for the course for pourover. Some things are worth waiting for ;)
40:590 damn you like some strong coffee
Why yes ... yes I do.
What size of ground do you use with this method?
will need to experiment to make the size needed to complete the process in approximately 4 minutes.
What kind of grinder do you have? Espresso grinder or all round grinder?
+ArcticDreamers Rapture Macap M4 worm drive (link in commments)
i dont know why people say its long. tea takes 4 minutes as well
Yeah, I really don't understand why some of those coffee hipster buy 60+ pour over stands when we can just use a 1 dollar strainer.
One design
Two taste
Three brag.
The video has electric kettle which is more expensive than regular one. It cost around 100.
@@hannibalkim Mate, you know that isn't expensive enough. Don't you know, you need a 300000 dollar kettle to be legit? He is also missing gauges and a beanie.
What kettle is that?
Bonavita Temp Control: amzn.to/2JmUPFq
Okay method but the quicker extraction will not allow the essential and unique flavor s to come out... you will lose all that interesting flavor if all the water hits the coffee grinds right away
Use a Vietnamese or Phin filter as their called
you cheap Asian!! lol!!! jk! great video! 😂😂👍👍😊😊
You GET me LOL!
This maybe ok. Hats off to his patience, but it looks more like a slow drawn out pain in the ass!
HAHA! They say coffee extraction should take 3-4min so this is perfect.
@Michael Snow : yup - got vacpot: ruclips.net/video/gnypbebefUU/видео.html :) But it's a PAIN to wash - much fussier for everyday coffee.
too much pleasant chatter
You talk too much
This is a joke! Did you taste it? Compare its taste to Chemex method or V60 method or Kalita method! The paper is the point.
paper absorbs much of the oils in coffee, and the BEANS make all the difference in how much of the oil you want to taste. Flavour wins, but totally depends on the bean .
if your worried about being green then quit using toilet paper.
