Since my 99 was new......i had so much top end clatter from valve lash. The Indiana Yamaha dealer told me it was normal. So 22 years later...its getting a well needed service.I am 63 now and its my only toy i have left.I had so much fun on that monster....went camping....exploring.....driving on side of highways for miles picking up marlboro packs for the miles stamp. There was a pack every 20 feet at times. I dont smoke and i got so much great Marlboro gear.....like Tents...sleeping bags....knives....cigarette lighters.......gloves....shirts.....a hat......a coat....binoculars....walkie talkies.....games.....flashlights.....a folding Fuji moutain bike..... hand held gps.....tools......toys......ashtrays....blankets....duffle bag set......CD wallet.....electronic road guide....electronic compass......the cigarette stuff i gave as gifts to friends.

Bullet proof! I've had a few Grizzly's, now I have an old 2012 550 Grizzly, it's only has a little over 1500 kilometers on it...the one thing I hate about the newer machines is having no pull start option :(

Awesome. Had to chuckle at the tight oil drain plug. Mine is same and I did same thing as you but still won't budge. I'm afraid I might snap something. Thanks for a very clear video.

Thanks very much you were very thorough!!
Now I have to check & change the plug & my carb has to have a little leak , I have to turn off gas when I finish riding it or I will lose the whole tank!

You're welcome Peter! Hope you figure out the carb issue, maybe a little bit something caught in the needle valve...

My Grizzly was missing and I decided to check the valves. I found TDC with the viewing window, took off the valve cover and found them to have a lot of play.(Maybe a 1/4 inch) How can you set the valves with this much play.?

    • @whatsbroken8309

WOW! 1/4 inch! that's a lot! not 100 percent sure but maybe a bent push rod... or cam is extremely worn... just guessing here...

i have a 2001 grizzly with an idle issue or chock.
Cn't seem to lower the idle, turn that knob on the carb but doesn't really do much can't really change gear since it's rmp is too high.
    Can you help?

Hmmm, is there an adjustment on the throttle cable? Either up at the hand throttle or where it goes into the carb? Perhaps the "sheath length" has "extended" which would hold the slide in the carb open more... haven't been out to my brothers in awhile where the quad is and can't quite remember the cable setup.

Maybe air/fuel screw needs adjusting. On bottom of carb and tough to get at. You can buy a special tool on Amazon that makes life much easier.
