They are the strongest attacking Pikmin in 1, 3, and 4, tied with Purple in the latter two, and are immune to fire, which means that they are the only ones that can carry things through fire, which Pikmin like trying to do in the first two games.

    I think glow pikmin actually have to be the best, maybe next to purple. They can do everything every other pikmin can do AND they can teleport back to you whenever they're idle. The only thing they don't have is a damage buff, but considering they also have the glowmob that's not much of a disadvantage.
    At the very least, they should be above bulbmin since they're literally just the same thing but better.

    • @Mecceldorf
      @Mecceldorf Год назад +10

      I think the context of all four games is taken into account here. Glow pikmin in pikmin 4 are centered around a specific game type, and have extended utility as a deployable savant of sorts, but in the context of pikmin 2 bulbmin were almost always great to find.

    • @eightbittemplar7394
      @eightbittemplar7394 Год назад +11

      @MechaLeo I guess, but the glowmob and teleportation are such great abilities that it's difficult for me to see them as being inferior even considering the differences between Pikmins 2 and 4. Bulbmin were only really good for taking on hazards that you didn't have the proper pikmin for, which was good, but you didn't get the increased combat and collecting ability that glow pikmin have on top of that.

      You have to keep their respective games in mind. Pikmin 2 electricity is one of the most dangerous things (even including enemies) the series has seen, and it was all over the place. There were also several questionable design choices in some of the later caves, like putting tons of poison and fire geysers right next to spawn points for falling volatile dweevils and boulders, which made those elemental hazards more dangerous if you didn't go very methodically slow and clear out every hazard the instant you could touch it.
      Pikmin 4 has pathetic electricity, sparse poison, and none of the aforementioned ridiculous aerial jumpscares driving you directly into hazards in your attempt to escape, so hazard immunity is much less valuable; indeed, bulbmin themselves would be much less useful if they remained in 4, unchanged.
      I think glow pikmin are still probably a little better because they're pretty much the best single-target damage in the game when you get a big stack of them and you don't have to babysit them when they're alone, but they're not as cut-and-dry superior to bulbmin as you might think

    I completely disagree on the placement of blue and red Pikmin. The reason being is that once you’ve done everything there is to do with Blue Pikmin in any game they become essentially useless. Red will always be better because they are stronger meaning you can kill enemies faster which will always be useful in any scenario especially if you speedrun. Blue Pikmin are like small keys in Zelda I could make an argument it’s the best item in any Zelda game because it opens a door which I need to do in order to continue playing the game. However this argument feels silly to say because it doesn’t provide any additional utility after it’s served it’s purpose
    TL:DR Red Pikmin will have more use because they have higher attack whereas Blue once all water based content is complete are rendered useless.

      Once all electric hazards and high-up ship parts/treasures/fruit are completed, Yellow Pikmin are rendered useless.
      Once all poison hazards and buried treasures (in Pikmin 2) are completed, White Pikmin are rendered useless.

They also don't seem to stun for as long or as consistently, but that might just be me (and upgraded Oatchi rush + ice Pikmin get the job done just fine).

      @elijahpadilla5083 Год назад +14

      @@durpanda123It's honestly nore the difference between the games they're in, more than them.
      99% of the time in Pikmin 4, you're going in with the tools to beat any given hazard or enemy type, you're gifted wild Pikmin to handle things you might not normally have the ability to, and the threats are generally so self-contained that the Hazard Removal Squad is basically unnecessary. So, you're replacing fallen Pikmin with them, using them to convert in Candypop Buds, or maybe using a Glowmob on a very specific enemy type you hate dealing with.
      Pikmin 2 is a brutal, roguelike RNG hell where they mix and match hazards in such a way that a Bulbmin squad is essential to dealing with very specific challenges, and maybe distinct challenges that accidentally got randomly generated together.
      They're basically the same tool- immunity to hazards that can't leave caves and deals halved damage, with Glow Pikmin having the noticeable benefit of teleporting back to you- but only one game is brutal enough to mandate the use of that tool.

    • @elijahpadilla5083
      @elijahpadilla5083 Год назад +2

      @@durpanda123 I mean, the usefulness and power of a Pikmin is entirely based on the situation it's in, so the context of how it fares in the game(s) it's in is relevant to how one would need to rank it.
      Let's take the example of Pikmin 2 Yellows vs. Pikmin 3 Yellows. Between Pikmin 2 and 3, Yellow Pikmin gained 3 traits- completing wires, regaining the ability to carry Bomb Rocks, and faster digging compared to other Pikmin types. They were, objectively speaking, buffed. But they're significantly less useful in Pikmin 3, due to the overall lowered game difficulty, the fact that electricity physically cannot kill Pikmin anymore, and Winged Pikmin being able to fill most* roles a Yellow Pikmin's higher throwing arc would be used for.
      Overall, anything in games is relative to the context of the game it's in. In Pikmin, a Bomb Rock doing a stable 200 damage makes it a consistent tool for massacre. In Final Fantasy, you wouldn't use Bomb Rocks very long at all. All traits are relative to the game they're in.

    A few changes to varying Pikmin I would make for balance purposes or for fun:
    - Rock Pikmin having an immunity to most elemental hazards like the Glows do. They are quite literally rocks, most rocks don't burn, freeze, or really effected by electricity or poison. Them being effected by water at least kind of makes sense if you think of it like Pokemon rules.
    - Ice Pikmin having the hard quality that the Rocks do. Ice Pikmin might seem OP at first but once you've been to more places, unlocked more things, just have more of a variety of Pikmin, and unlock the ice bomb, they gradually become useless. Ice is hard, rock is more hard; same principle
    - White Pikmin being able to spit acid like in that one video. I just think that'd be cool. It'd make them better at clearing barriers or obstacles as well. Maybe it targets like aerial enemies differently, like instead of trying to climb up to it, it'd try to lock onto and spit acid at them.
    - Making each Pikmin type have a different charge effect like the Glows do. Reds turn into a ball of fire, Yellows upon making contact call down lightning stunning and arcing between enemies, Blues making a big water splash, Pinks forming a massive gust of wind blowing away smaller enemies, Purples just completely bulldozing over enemies flat, Rocks stunning enemies knocking them over, Ice just insta-freezing anything in their path, and Whites just causing a mushroom cloud of poison anything being caught in it gets damage-over-time.

    • @notaimperiya

      white pikmin could have a nieche gimmick in the sense that, instead of having 0.5x dmg (which makes them pretty mid), they have 1x dmg and if they die (not from being eaten), they make a small puddle of gas that harms the enemy if they step on it and it deals tick dmg instead of instant damage
      enemys that fly or have protected feet such as the puffy blowhog or the baldy longlegs would not take dmg from the puddle of gas, and could stomp it out or blow the gas away
      ofc poison enemies have immunity but it could be a nice gimmick to put poison above the rest as they currently are the worst fighters basically, expect flying but they are designed to be carrying not fighting
      to buff flying pikmin aswell, you could just give them 1x or 1.5x dmg to stuff in the air and make them stun the enemy slightly as they get swarmed by "bees" in a sense
      basically purples but for aerial combat
      and also make every pikmin that doesnt do 0.5x go back to either 1x or 0.5x for dmg to make flying pikmin the king of the skys essentially

    Red Pikmin seem to have a bad reputation and I have no idea why, they are easily the best in Pikmin 1, very nice to have in 3, and also good in 4. Pikmin 2 is the only one where I don’t use reds that much. But they are way better than last place.

    You know, I kinda get why Red Pikmin are the first to unlock! Having more powerful fighters at the beginning of the game is useful since you don’t have high numbers of Pikmin yet, and the attack power of Reds compensates for that. As you get other Pikmin types, your population will be rather large and you can depend on Reds less.

    Extra note about the ice pikmin that wasn't mentioned. If there are monsters standing on a body of water(not underwater) and you freeze that water with the ice pikmin, that monster gets frozen and essentially CAN'T break free anymore (or for a really long time compared to normal freeze), probably because the game considers it a part of the water and will condemn to being 'stunlocked' until you either release the ice pikmin or shatter said monster to death. Fun tip for if you want to trap and bully the monster without needing to risk anything and have a pond to lure it in.

    The additional damage reds do makes them extremely useful compared to the others. I understand this list primarily pertains to basic gameplay (which is why blues are grossly over-ranked), but if you want zero deaths, reds are indispensable for taking enemies out quickly. Having just unlocked and beaten Olimar's Recollection Story, as well as 100%ing 3 of the first 4 areas, I've never once felt the need to summon Glow Pikmin inside of any of the caves.

Rock pikmin are literally the best Pikmin in Pikmin 3, they do incredible damage and are completely immune to crushing. Yellow pikmin are the LEAST useful in the first game, blues are definitely not the most useful of the original 3, and I'm sorry but the thing that literally makes me question your entire sanity is your ranking of bulbmin compared to Glow pikmin? Glow pikmin are Bulbmin but better in literally every way. They're immune to all hazards can be summoned AT WILL in dungeons, they RETURN TO YOU after delivering treasure, HOW on earth can you justify this ranking? Did you ever even use them in caves? Okay you're just straight up wrong on rock Pikmin being defensive over offensive they are incredible for burst damage the whole point is you throw them fast whistle them back and repeat you're not supposed to let them run at enemies on their own. Reds combat multiplier easily makes them arguably the best in Pikmin 1. Blues whole finally good in 4 have been arguably the worst in the franchise outside of Pikmin 1. Yellows were a godsend in 2 but garbage in every other game the bomb rocks are only really useful for the emperor bulblax and getting past rock walls in the first, yes you can use them for combat but doing so is slow and clunky when no combat encounter outside the final boss is even remotely difficult in Pikmin 1. Whites as much as I love them are niche use they're used perfectly in 4 with all sorts of new types of poison usage but sacrificing them shouldn't be something you aim to do. Purples are great but glow Pikmin are by far the best in the series you claimed they were made for the night mode almost exclusively but they melt the later dungeons on their own and don't require you to use much else besides them. I did the entire last dungeon with 50 glows alone and didn't come close to losing one. Flyers are fantastic but are not really meant for combat however they really excel in a lot of watery cave floors even better than blues do.

      Well said, pretty much every argument he made in the video was cherry-picked detail after cherry-picked detail.
      “Where Other pikmin are only situational, blues are universally useful.” No, they’re really only good when in water, they have No benefit outside of it, no damage boosts or Heat-resistance like reds, no Bomb Rocks(in 1 and 2), electricity resistance, or Movement Bonus capabilities like yellows either. They’re only better than Winged pikmin because Winged Pikmin have a 0.5x damage multiplier, and can’t access certain areas that blues can.
      There is no Pikmin more situational than Blue pikmin, except MAYBE winged Pikmin.
      That was probably the worst of the bad arguments.
      Oh I almost forgot, Ranking Glow pikmin 3 spots lower than Bulbmin is just flat out stupid.
      Bulbmin are Locked to Caves, Glow Pikmin are locked to caves and night mode.
      Bulbmin are resistant to all elements, Glow Pikmin Are resistant to all elements.

      Glow Pikmin have a Stun mechanic.
      Glow Pikmin are just flat out better in every way.

Since they both actually latch onto enemies, are immune to ice *and* can freeze any body of water if you have enough of them. And as if that wasn’t enough, they can straight-up freeze any enemies in their tracks and allow you to pummel them far easier. They’re pretty much borderline broken and definitely my go-to Pikmin in 4, along with a great addition to the series.

    After doing my 0 death playthrough I think that flying (they ignore many hazards so if you plan routes well you don't have to kill everything, also the huge abundance of potions and items in the game mean you can one cycle most enemies and bosses with even with lower base attack power) and glow Pikmin (with few exceptions make most dungeons clear able with only with just black, flying, and frost also don't count towards deaths which made my challenge so much easier) are much better than anything other than purple in the 4th game. After a few upgrades you can just micro manage oatchie (dog thing can't spell it) to remove most hazards and elemental enemies. Since every level has berries near a base you can start your day sending 10 Pikmin to farm all day and you have a constant supply of 8+ potions a day.

      Bomb rocks are very powerful though. I don't get why you wouldn't want to use them. They are both needed but also can be used for combat as well. Electricity is a one hit K.O. for Pikmin in 2 and high throw range is good for getting objects and high to reach enemies, so it doesn't make sense to say they can't do anything. Nothing about makes them the same as the other types in 3, electricity immunity, high throw range (Winged Pikmin don't invalidate this trait entirely) are still there, and they received a new digging speed. 4 makes electricity harmful again just by a bit, and their digging speed is faster. Yellows are decent at best, not great, but better than blues and whites (as of 4) for sure.

    Just for Pikmin 4, gonna rearrange this list a bit.
    - Reds are near the top, easy. As a 1.5x damage dealer(?) they hurt bosses bad. Not to mention there's a LOT of fire in Pikmin 4.
    - Yellows are near the bottom, easy. I'll pull them out for one of the few electric fences, or one of the few high items. Otherwise, why have them out at all?
    - Blues are near the top.
    - Ice is OP. They might take the top spot. Helps that even pretty early, you're going to have a lot of them.
    - Rock is near the bottom.
    - White, purple, and flying are hard to discuss. They have amazing abilities but you don't want to use them due to rarity. White's carry speed is nuts, and purples can do so much. However, purples step on Oatchi's toes a bit. The 10x carry isn't so great anymore when Oatchi can carry basically anything, even pretty early game. All 3 are mid.
    - Glow is OP, even with the "only in caves" restriction they're unreasonably good.

      Yellows also have the fastest digging speed. Niche but it still is helpful for a little bit of time management.
      Blues' usage only limited to water combat and carrying is hardly anything to make them get to the top. If water immunity is all they have, then how can they be better?
      Rocks are still strong with their immunity to crush (Not on a hard surface.) and their attack strength, especially when charged.
      For these three types, Winged, Purple, and white Pikmin you evaluated these types unfairly due to their rarity. You don't have to be stuck to just using the three required types in each map all the time. In fact, the game gives you these guys a lot in caves, that you can grind for them easily. Plus, they have Onion you can get quite early in the post game for the latter two.
      When talking about Purples, it makes no sense to say these guys are invalidated because Oatchi is strong and can carry heavy stuff back. Multitasking is still important, so if you only depend on Oatchi to carry stuff back, specifically stuff one by one, then time isn't used wisely. Their carry power allows one or a few of this type of Pikmin to carry one object, so that you aren't using a lot of Pikmin in your squad. Don't forget, this Pikmin type is the strongest in the game and there are a few treasures that require their carry power, so saying they are mid is quite the exaggeration.
      Winged Pikmin has flight and can take shortcuts when carrying stuff back. Their flight can also be used in combat.
      Whites aren't great in 4, but you can still do a little bit with them with poison hazards and carrying nuggets raw materials, and spiderwarts back.

    I think in Pikmin 5 we could get silver Drillhead pikmin for digging, ivory plasm pikmin for stretching and squeezing through cracks, and maybe orange parasite pikmin that look like carrots but when eaten, take over the host kinda like the bulbmin. Imagine being able to control a pikmin version of every enemy in the game!

    Strangely I'd argue that blue pikmin are among the worse because, essentially, their core feature only comes up when there's water. Outside of when the game demands you use them, they're not as useful. But maybe that's just me.
