Had a girlfriend she wanted a Isuzu rodeo. I told her get a manual Camry this is 1999. We fought about it. In the end she listened to me. Saw her years later she thanked me said was a great decision lol.
I used to have a Subaru WRX, and my wife wanted a Subaru Forester in the worst way. Literally all she cares about is having Bluetooth, a backup camera, and the color of the car. She preferred a Blue or Red car. I sold my WRX in 2019 and years later in late 2021 was waiting to get a Lexus IS500. My wife decided to go get a new car and wanted the Forester, I helped her pick the trim and color and found her the car, and she bought it. I was going to give input to get a Rav 4, but I didn't want to intrude. She picked a Black 22 Forester Sport(she liked the orange accents) I ended up with a Red IS500 that I traded in for a Blue Vector IS500(which is identical to Toyota's Blue Flame). I bring this car home and she LOVES the blue on it, over the moon about it. I then showed her a picture of a Blue Flame Rav 4 and said, "This was going to be my recommendation when you originally bought the Forester". She says, "Well can we sell my Forester and get one of these instead?" I said, "Yeah they discontinued this color, you're out of luck now " 😂😅😂
In the early 2000s Mom wanted to buy an Alero. Olds had already announced they were going out of business. She liked the discount for going out of business but I said you'll have a hard time selling it with Olds gone. She bought a Taurus instead, which was a good car for her, but EVERY time we saw an Alero she'd point it out and say it looked nice. She's been gone now for 2+ yrs. I saw an Alero a cpl wks ago and thought of her.
Correct. And CPO means nearly nothing, and miles, etc. What I was saying regarding this car is that even though all the usual metrics were followed that most people expect to mean that the car is good, it wasn't.
She really did like that Corolla. Was driving with her once and she saw a car like it and commented that she missed it. She is a practical woman, Doug.
Wife wanted a suv. Started out at forester then an edge wound up at a sportage but it had to be green with all the gadgets. A year later she is so happy and I must admit it does look pretty good.
Mazda has pretty much always been in the tier right behind Toyota / Honda for reliability, the thing that's held them back was issues with the rotary engine before they dropped it.
Wife bought a challenger R/T. Let her drive it for about 4 years. Eventually had to take the car after 14k in damages. Not all at once, she was able to spread it out over the years but after she took it to the cusp of totaled in one instance I took it and she drives a civic now.
I bought a 23 Mazda 3 fully loaded with discounts all in at 23.8k before taxes. And the interior and sound system is better than my friends BMW x1 he paid 45k for.
Earlier in our marriage, I twice made the mistake of talking my wife into buying a car she didn’t like as much as I did. Never again. She can buy whatever she wants, regardless of how much I hate driving it. She doesn’t make bad choices, but they’re certainly not cars I would ever buy.
Look into Hyundai Santa Fe XL with the 3.3L V6 AWD - has everything your wife is looking for an can easily last 200,000 miles I got a 2014 for my wife and she loves it and it’s reliability
Can't do a Hyundai, too much brand snobbery on my end. In case you haven't figured it out, I haven't learned a darn thing from my mistakes. Still trying to direct her automotive purchases
@@switchcars haha I completely agree, I reserve my irresponsible car purchasing decisions for myself so like this the suffering is mitigated to only one party inside the household. Good luck with the hunt and waiting to hear about what she ends up with. Cheers from your little brother up north 🇨🇦
Shut up Doug! Secondhand wife’s sports cars from the last decade are the only way I can get a decent spec model in good condition without mods. Just picked up a cherry Panamera Turbo, wife spec, low miles, with a warranty, for 18% of MSRP. Stop this nonsense. Tell your rich friends to buy all the cars they can, don’t drive them, and sell them at a loss.
Pretty simple, Happy Wife Happy Life! I have finally learned to stop pushing new cars on my wife, even though I am typically driving her car when we are out as a family. Thankfully, I enjoy our 22 Acura MDX well enough. 🙂
@@switchcars 33k miles on ours now and it has been great. Handles really well for what it is, especially in the wet. Reminds me of my early Cayennes. With the A-spec you get that cool red interior with the black cloth inserts. Makes if feel pretty special. Not 98 Pace car special of course. PS fits our family of 5 (sometimes 6) really well.
Just buy her a civic corolla accord camry, lexus or tl or tsx and no issues will arise. Buying these used german luxury cars are garbage i know i owned an 07 audi a4 it was junk
@@switchcarsya swipe up a newer gen one like a 2015 idk what gen the one she had before was. Idk i like buying a basic car two gens behind current gen and buy the “cool” car as seasonal. In 2019 i got my 2009 accord with 72k miles for $6,500. I love it.

Great story

“A two owner car…” You just made a point in a recent video that the number of previous owners means nothing in buying a used car.

I currently own both an E36 3 series convertible and a 2014 MB E350… love both. Good choices Doug
She loved the M3, we just got a bad one. The E350 convertible has been great though!

Idk, me and my wife are usually on same page as far as what kind of cars we like. We daily x2 e28s and a disco 2 and couldn't be happier

I picked my girls car out in maybe 30 minutes. It would have taken her weeks. Got her a AWD VW Arteon. She loves it and so do I.

So Doug why not get a PPI? Ive made these same mistakes 😂
The E-class wagon would've passed a PPI with flying colors.
N ice XM shirt Doug!
.
Im halfway through, and all Ive learned is that Doug shouldnt pick HIS wife a car...
jeebsus... scooped up a 67 baja bug (holy sheet extreme ) project... for 300 $ for the mrs last weekend
"for the mrs"?
oh god, there's MORE of my clan out there? :D
-le, not -el. Different enough, right? 😂
@@ethanhufnagle maybe? maybe not? :D
I'm a professional I should be better at this. LOL
Yeh, back to live again, Wuuuuu Whoooo.
Stop buying German cars?
PPI - shouldn't that be rule #1
Our lemon wagon would have passed a PPI with flying colors. PPIs don’t predict future issues.
