It's pretty sad that about 20 episodes later in season 6's "The Crash" we find out from Stan that his cousin (the sailor here) was reported to be killed in action.
@@polishherowitoldpilecki5521 depends on thier assignment. Sailors served on River patrol boats, ashore in a facility that serviced naval vessels in Port like da nang or Cham ran bay assignment to fleet marine force these are Navy medics doctors and chaplains and chap assistant assigned to marine units because the corps does not have thier own, construction battalion units, naval air crews flying in and out of nam, training personal attached to the south Vietnamese Navy, special ops like seal and udt units that operated in nam, explosive ordinance disposal units that handle munitions, those assigned to military assistance command Vietnam in Saigon which is headquarters and personnel on attached assignment to another branch like a soilder temporarily attached to an airforce for learning observation or to provide technical training to members of that branch. I know that is a long answer but I hope it clarifies how a sailor could get killed in nam.
It's great cause we see a slightly more relaxed Burt Cooper casually debating politics with near enough total strangers (minus Stan) and Stan is stirring the pot knowing burt can take it.
The Domino Theory was an idea that stated if the USA lost South Vietnam to the communists, the neighboring countries would soon fall to communism as well and that before long the majority of Asia would be under communist influence.
"I thought there were gonna be girls here..."
That was just the right way to end that scene
Took the words outta my mouth
We all thought there were gonna be girls here buddy, we all did.

Right ! I never made the connection between the two. But it was actually him in this scene.

Ulisses Perez-Ariza usually in a patrol boat on the river
Big dummy
This is such a small scene, but it’s a great example on how Mad Men shows the difference between generations and political views.

"Morse code." Nice tribute
I'm pretty confident that Bert has never read Johnny Got His Gun. In fact, Abe is probably the only one in the entire room who has.
Based Bert, that book is shit
Exactly the opinion I'd expect from someone who uses the term "based"

That kid probably came in off the street passing by one of the ad guys talking about a party.
That is Stan's Cousin iirc. and here it's right before he heads to Vietnam. Later in the season they reveal he did indeed get KIA
killed in action in a war how unusual
I really like how Bert was used in this show
It's later mentioned in the series that he was in fact killed in Vietnam
Navy Guy Got It Right😉😅
This might just be the best scene in this entire series 😂
Can somebody explain what Cooper meant by the "Domino Theory"?
The Domino Theory was an idea that stated if the USA lost South Vietnam to the communists, the neighboring countries would soon fall to communism as well and that before long the majority of Asia would be under communist influence.
I thought there would be girls in this comment section 🙄
Sorry, best we can do is incels
Abe was great. The little head movement at 00:27 makes me laugh every time.
I didn’t think that they would play Burt as such an ignoramus
Read: War is a racket by General Smedley Butler
The domino effect. They used the same exact fairy tale during the Yugoslavian civil war. Then they dropped bombs using depleted uranium
