My High School band played this at football games from 83-86. I haven't heard this since then, but I'll be darned....I REMEMBERED IT FROM FIRST NOTE TO LAST. Love those two-beat triplets. Heck I still remember every note of everything we played in middle school band.
We palyed this as our show opener during my freshman year fall of 1983. I'm helping out at a local band camp this week and started looking for this one to bring back many fond memories.
Came from a very small high school with a small marching band, and this song was our anthem. We took first place in two separate parade competitions one in Boston one in Hershey park
Our band starts ever half time show with an opening fanfare piece, it alternates every year between this, and another great Bob Cotter piece called Off The Line.
to the people putting these grand ol' tunes together, we say thank you . . . . . could you dig up "Malaga" I think it was 1981 ? ? and I want to say it was Jack White's "Sound of Today" Northeast Louisiana Band that did the recording.
We also played Sirocco in 83-84... in Tuscaloosa AL... those were the days of the Spanish marches... and the Aussie style hats with one side turned up and a long plume.... Corps style was IT then.
If memory serves me well, the band in this recording is Furman University. If not them, it could be Northeast Louisiana U. I played this in high school marching band 1983!
Scott, sounds like your director and mine were linked telepathically back in the early 80s. We played Sirocco in 83-84, and Fiero the next year too. About 2500 miles away in Tennessee.
My high school band also did the same. Sciroco in 1983 then Fiero in 1984. Lyon County High School Band from Eddyville Ky. I wish the band programs now played great songs like these instead of the style they are doing now.
@@RFKjrForPres that was the year that John Mason went from directing at our school to directing at yours. Great friendly rivalry between the bands back then!
Is there any chance you would know where to find the sheet music for this piece? My high school band has been playing it for years based off of one photocopy we’ve had since the 90’s and the composer of the piece is cut out, very difficult to find with just a name
Still so great, after all these years.

Love, "Off The Line"...especially the horn line/tritone rip into the upper register near the end!
Norwood Marching Band 1986 also did this song....minus the trumpet solo at the end. Great memories!! I've always loved this song!!
