- Can you remember when entire shelves in the grocery stores were completely empty? If so, then you can imagine what it might have been like to experience a plague of locusts in ancient Israel. Imagine there was no warning, and suddenly the sky darkened as millions of flying insects covered your fields and devoured your crops. In a few days, you, and everyone in your region, would be completely wiped out. What would you do?
In the Old Testament, we explore the book of Joel, where God sent a plague of locusts on the land as a judgment against the people. Once they were stripped of their wealth and food, the people had nothing left but themselves to offer to God as a sacrifice. And when they returned to him with all their heart and soul, he healed the land and the people.
In the New Testament, we look at multiple passage where Jesus, Peter, and John reference Joel and the day of the Lord to which he testifies. In their different ways, they all call us to a heartfelt repentance toward God. Why do we have to be stripped of every other option before we turn to God? Fortunately, he is merciful and welcomes us back when we repent from the heart.
This is another episode in the series entitled, "Who Is Jesus Christ, and Why Do I Need Him?" Join father and son, Timothy and Caleb, as they explore the books of the Old Testament to discover the main attribute of God revealed in each. Then listen as they survey the New Testament to see how Jesus Christ exemplifies each attribute in his person.
