Bruce Lee was more powerful than you think

  • @superstrangevideo

Evidently, you guys don't know the events that occurred during the rehearsing of this scene. In the original sequence, Bruce did exactly what you were suggesting, a spinning back or thrust kick, but as Bruce turned, he cut his left hand on one of the jagged edges of the glass that Wall was holding. The production was held up for about 7 days because Bruce needed stitches.

The guy Bruce Lee is fighting is actor/martial artist BOB WALL, who also was in Bruce Lee's previous movie, WAY OF THE DRAGON, and Bruce's final movie GAME OF DEATH.

First off, who's gonna get up after being kick with that full blast side kick after absorbing the previous blows in the match? The broken bottle scene, then the leaping stomp, was Lee's thought process for the audience!

the first 'trap' was not a grab and pull down. It is Pak-Dar-simultaneous slap block to the forearm/wrist while punching. If you can slow it down or have frame advance, you can see it...or if you've had any Wing Chun/JKD/Hung-Gar training, as it is a common technique.

While filming, They did the bottle breaking scene before the shuffle kick.
In the bottle breaking scene, Bob accidentally cut Bruce’s hand (you can see the bandage when they shot the scene again) and Bob was nervous about the shuffle kick scene.
He kept asking anyone who had just spoke to Bruce or was near him “is he pissed off?”
To which he was told “Bruce is gonna get ya” while chuckling.
Bruce have the kick a little bit more juice than they rehearsed. 😂
Also, Bruce did not do any flips in the film, those were done by his acrobatic stunt double.
I forget his name, but he was the pervert landlord in Kung Fu Hustle.

You're spot on...the accident with the bottle happend cause Bob Wall held it to long after the kick...so Bruce was very pissed of this dangerous mistake and you're right about his stunt double...Bruce couldn't take risks due to his back injury and that stund double was the best and lookliked Lee's twinbrother

O'Hara was already to go and Bruce knew it so the outside Cresent kick was just disarm him..very smart but in production Bruce got cut because O'Hara (Bob Wall Rip) was to slow to get in position a Bruce was to fast as a result production had to stop till Bruce healed. Bruce was so fast the camera man thought about another career.

Regarding Bruce kicking the bottle out of Wall's hand, not only would it be impractical in a real fight, (and something he would probably never do) but from what I understand it didn't even work as a stunt the first time either. Supposedly Wall's timing was off and Lee actually cut himself on the glass on the first take. Some people suggest that later Lee got revenge by kicking Wall so hard when they shot the next scene that it broke his ribs. But I don't think Bruce would be that petty and he and Wall were close friends as Wall was his student for many years by the time this was shot. Also, in Lee's book Tao Jeet Kune Do he has an entire chapter devoted to closing distance and timing your attack, and he exemplifies those techniques in the scenes before the bottle attack, where he is delivering the roundhouse kicks just as Wall starts his move. Though I doubt he would use those kicks in a fight. They just look better on screen. It's a great book for anyone getting into marital arts.

    • @IYAMNI
      @IYAMNI Год назад +1

@@ryanramkissoon1630 True. His film fighting style was something he developed just for the screen. The closest we'll ever get to seeing Lee's real fighting style is the short clip of him doing full contact sparring at the LB tournament and even that was tempered.

      I recently learned that too.
He apparently had no problem with gymnastic kung fu manuevers until he injured his lower sacral thoracic nerve in 1969, just 4 years before his death.
And since the movie thing only happened for him at the last 1.5 year of his life he needed that stunt double for any landing that reverberates to that spine area. He was also prescripted a form of steroids to heal that thoracic injury.

ODH is Left handed. His jab and left hook are highlight reels. Be boxed in conventional stance his whole career... Only TBud has been so dominant being ambidextrous... . Say whatever but he struggled last fight, he has no biz at that weight class. 147 welterweight is the limit. I hate the Canelo call out because Canelo is fully built for 168 and no lower. Horrible fight for TBud even though he's the better fighter. Size matters.

I don't think the words "Bruce Lee" and "miss" should really be in the same phrase. For frick's sake, the guy played ping pong with a nunchaku! Compared to that level of precision, kicking the guy's hands in the perfect moment is really piece of cake. I don't mean for us, mere mortals of course...
Also, a jab like that from him in my opinion could totally knock down someone. Remember, he exercised with 135 kg punching bags, he did 1500 pushups in one go. For his size he was unbelievably strong. Once he dislocated someone's shoulder with a slap (!) that according to him wasn't even that strong.

Ping pong footage is not Bruce Lee. It was done in black and white in the 2000's as a promotion for an overseas product. IIRC it was for the Nokia phone. Just Google "Bruce Lee ping pong Nokia" and you'll find info on it.
