Love Shota. He IS Chicago. He gets the city - which is amazing for a newcomer. He won us over from his first intro and had a sensational year. Instant fan favorite. Very different pitcher from Wood, and also more mature for a “rookie” so hard to compare but I would take either one and for personality is Shota by a mile.

The fact that we was pretty much living in Chicago for like a month (I think?) and endured that crazy cold weather, and still signed with the Cubs means he in fact IS Chicago

Yes he does deserve Rookie of the Year consideration.

Only Kerry's 1st and 3rd seasons were any good (the 4th was okay), after that he was hurt ALL the time. I'd take Shota over Wood all day, every day.

Don't forget about 2003! He and Prior were the 1-2 punch. That rotation was sick. Wood, Prior, Clement, Zambrano. Zambrano was almost an afterthought, and he still threw 214 innings that year (3.11 ERA). Mind Blowing! 🤯

Yea like you said he just came over in the wrong season. He'd likely win it any other year.

It's crazy how talented the rookies were in the NL this year. PCA and Busch probably won't even get votes, but I bet in other years they would.

@@SetupManCubs Absolutely. Busch especially. He likely would have got 2nd an 3rd place votes just last year.
