My theory is that batmoths spawn in specific rooms, the batmoths most likely attack you if you show light and you take 5 damage. If you step on its egg, it will spawn more making you lose damage faster if light is shown.

i have a theory that the red unnamed locker entity in floor 2 is hide's true appearance.
its red. its in a locker. it has tentacles (probably represents the lands on your screen or other visuals)
