Thank you very much for the video tutorials. They sure make life much easier for beginners!! I would watch every single NCW tutorial available. I learn new techniques from everyone and I am LOVING it!! :)
Sheila, so many people have been doing this for so many years, that it is almost considered an accepted practice to use the Peltex or foam this way. I'm sorry if it is confusing to a new person using the pattern for the first time. Janelle updated the pattern last year, I'm not sure if this was included. If you are on FaceBook, there is a group called NCW addicts that share regularly, often, and include wonderful hints and hacks that we have discovered through our experiences making so many of these. I myself am fuzzy about what is actually in the original pattern and what has been developed as a hack! The best advice I can give is make at least one as an experiment, using " sacrificial" fabrics, and decide for yourself what you would like to change. I think almost everyone uses zipper tabs, don't interface the wings heavily, and feel the body needs more interfacing than just SF101.
I use either peltex for the entire flap and for the center of the body for a stiff feel, or the foam or headliner for those two body and flap parts for a softer feel. I put both of these pieces in after the inside and outside are sewn together but before topstitching. In the flap prior to topstitching and attaching to the body. Into the body before I sew closed the turning hole, which I always cut at the center ( middle) of the lining piece.
Thanks again. I thought I had missed something when I made it but now I know I didn’t. I have sent in a request for the Facebook group as you have suggested. Regards.
In my NCW pattern it doesn’t call for the peltex stabilizer other than for the border. I found my wallet to be flimsy just using the SF101. What pieces should have the Peltex and would it just replace the SF101. I really appreciate your tutorial and hope you are still available to answer. Thanks.
Great tutorials. You make it look so easy, I may just try it myself! Thanks Jean.p.s. When you say that you can get that automotive headliner fabric as "big box" stores, what actual store are you referring to? JoAnn's fabrics? Or Walmart, maybe? Curious...

Thank you for taking the time to do these videos! I've been scared to start my first NCW but now I'm ready to get going!

I use fusible buckram in the center of the body and the flap.If one piece of SF101 is not enough, use another layer of it.
There are so many helpful hints found on that FB group.

Thanks for the quick reply. Is this not in the pattern and just something you decided?
Saundra, I have no idea how felt sheets would work. I know they would not give the same feel as headliner but they might be ok.
Headliner at JoAnns and the soon to be gone Hancock's.
