Merci infiniment l’artiste!
It is like it is just him and the music...as if Beethoven is reaching through his soul and pouring out this music. There is no audience, no stars, no planets, no universe...just music. He is a lot that way when he conducts as well, but it shows through even more in his solo piano work. It is just amazing that his only piano teachers were his parents.
It's not only about playing all the notes correctly. It's about the story he's telling with this. The passion behind it. You can really hear and feel it in this recording.
his performance of this is really unique in how delicately he treats it. most pianists put more power into it all over, but barenboim aims his power at the important parts. very precise, yet emotional. very good.
I'm sure some young people will genuinely not enjoy listening to classical music, but all of my friends the same age as me(17), who've actually tried listening to it properly, love it. The only ones who say they don't like it, when asked, admit they've never really listened to it properly. I find a lot of the time on classical videos anyone posting a comment who seems at all immature just get's abuse from other dudes thinking this is a grave disrespectand they must be KILLED BY ELECTRIC CHAIR.
I Love the power, feeling in which Barenboim expresses through his playing and his slurs.. He simply understands how to perform music of the classical period for listeners to interpret. He takes us back to the classical period
Barenboim's interpretation of this classic virtuosity piece is full of mystery and anger. The tempo changes emphasize the dark atmosphere. Barenboim always thinks about what he does and how. Every dynamic on every note, every rythmic fluctuation is always fully considered fully and controlled. Congratulations ! Thumbs up!
This is astounding. I've seen him play this piece three times live, and he's never done it this well. I think he just decides when he's going to "turn it on." This was definitely one of those times.
I must say Barenboim is one of the very rare musicians that has gotten better with age. His performances seem much more passionate now than they did thirty to forty years ago. As if only now he has finnaly gained full empathy of the men whose music he is performing, or he has finally shed some long standing inhibitions in his interpretation.
The Magister
So much beauty. When your ability to play the piano is no longer of any concern and you can express your deepest interpretation of music only limited by your physical bounds.
WOOOOOOOOW !!!!It's just the word to say. He is AMAZING!! I admire you so much i see this video 3 times a day!!It's my drug now! Nothing to say he is the new Beetoven! Long life to you Daniel you're amaziing!!!
A well deserved applause at the end! What a marathon! It took me about a year to learn this piece properly, and then I forgot it again, lol, so I have great respect for anyone who can play it to this level :-)
I agree with patrickjohn84. I've listened to the versions presented by Gould, Horowitz, Kempff, and Perahia, and this is the best one here. Not that the other versions don't have their own merits, but I feel that this one is the most expressive and best captures the nature of the piece. I particularly love the liberties he takes with ritardando/accelerando and dynamics; his phrasing is so personal. At 1:24, he brings out the introspective quality that the others all seem to ignore. Brilliant.
Barenboim is definitely one of my favourite musicians. His interpretations of all the sonatas are astounding. Whoever's interested should look up on his work with the West-Eastern Divan orchestra. He's an amazing man.
Beethoven seldom ever acccepts a place as background music. He grabs you by the lapels and growls, "You vill leesen to me, yah?". Utter, unparalled genius.
How do people say that this is played too fast? Have you never listened to this music before? This is how it's supposed to be played, and he plays it excellently and with passion. Bieber and these other pop singers will never compare to beethoven
UN ORGULLO ARGENTINO COMO MUSICO DIRECTOR Y LO QUE TRASMITE CAMBIAR EL MUNDO ATRAVES DEL ARTE MUSICA EN ESTE CASO. ME PARO Y ME SACO EL SOMBRERO SEÑOR.
People, People. So much criticism. These performers ARE AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME. They are the GIANTS of todays classical performers. They have earned the rights to individual interpretations. ALL stay well within Ludwig's expressionistic boundaries as notated by him. If not we wouldn't be listening or, for that matter, even knowing about these performers. Dynamic symbols in composers manuscripts are to limited to achieve 100% Only audio recordings from Ludwig himself could achieve that.

I completely agree with your statement. Beethoven was a genius and it is undeniable . For instance, when I played all of his 32 sonatas , I was exuberant. Even though I don't even know who Lady Gaga is , I must respect his opinion because he has the right to say what he thinks. ^_^
I know this feeling... Its when you want something really bad and you know you cant and wont have it. Then your pissed of at the world on how unreasonable it all is. Conflict. Despair.

This movement is so phenomenally awesome I genuinely want to cry with pleasure when I hear it
How is it even possible that a mere human being is able to play these divine chords..
What beauty, it makes my heart ache.
I think Barenboim is the best Beethoven interpreter alive. He understands all 32 sonatas in a unique way.
Beethoven proud of him :) amazing performance! Great music.
MARAVILLOSO...SIN PALABRAS MERVEILLEUX...🙏
This is the best version. He manages to squeeze a lot of emotion into such a temptingly dry fast tempo. To be able to do both is quite impressive..
It is like it is just him and the music...as if Beethoven is reaching through his soul and pouring out this music. There is no audience, no stars, no planets, no universe...just music. He is a lot that way when he conducts as well, but it shows through even more in his solo piano work.

Amazing performance. Sad to see him so old though.
I still remember him as a young Barenboim...
One of the most tasteful and creative renditions I've heard. Barenboim really is the master of Beethoven
His interpretation was incredible. The contrast of agitated exposition and emphatic warmth . The Epitomy of Beethoven.
his performance of this is really unique in how delicately he treats it. most pianists put more power into it all over, but barenboim aims his power at the important parts. very precise, yet emotional. very good.

Beethoven is what Barenboim is great at. He really understands how to make this music come alive.
He is awsome! Shows how relentless and expressive Beethoven was with his sheer spectrum of emotions! Deepest music ever!
I Love the power, feeling in which Barenboim expresses through his playing and his slurs.. He simply understands how to perform music of the classical period for listeners to interpret. He takes us back to the classical period

Gracias Barenboim
Absolutely great performance. I like how Barenboim interprets this piece and communicates it to the audience.
This is astounding.
I've seen him play this piece three times live, and he's never done it this well. I think he just decides when he's going to "turn it on." This was definitely one of those times.
Anyone that performs this piece has my total respect. Amazing dedication... Great Job!
This is in my Favorites and I keep coming back to it.I love this Sonata and Barenboim is a pianist and conductor that I admire.
He's one of the best Argentinean musicians. Love Him. I'm very proud of him
Absolutely beautiful wonderful finger work and dynamics . absolutely moving. May you live 100 more years daniel

A well deserved applause at the end! What a marathon!
It took me about a year to learn this piece properly, and then I forgot it again, lol, so I have great respect for anyone who can play it to this level :-)
Ultimate talent, it must be a rush to play that so well, and recieve such applause in that beautiful setting.
Barenboim is the master on Beethoven's sonatas. Just amazing.

his stile is so chaotic and expresive... so wonderfull

Great video. A true Masterpiece. And perfectly performed by Berenboim. Also, the camera work is fantastic.
What to say? Five stars.
Out of this world . Thankyou

Whoever's interested should look up on his work with the West-Eastern Divan orchestra. He's an amazing man.
the development section at 3:12 is one of life's magical moments...so well played here by barenboim
Daniel Barenboim, genio de la música!!. Excelsa interpretación...
Mr Barenboim is truly amazing....excellent performance....great peice....

And finally I found my favorite version of this marvel of art from Beethoven. Just amazingly great, Barenboim is the best!
Superb Playing, Superb Pianist, Superb Musician. Nothing flashy just Beethoven.
Beethoven seldom ever acccepts a place as background music. He grabs you by the lapels and growls, "You vill leesen to me, yah?". Utter, unparalled genius.
I really dont get why people dislike masterpieces of classical music!!!
its amazing how he could make this piece into a romantic..the best interpretaion

Amazing performance. Probably the best I've seen so far
got to say, this chap is the best, heard my friend Pete D play Beethoven's music way back 40 years ago who was fantastic.. . thanks Pete. . . .
This is my favourite movement in this sonata. HOW DOES ANYONE MANAGE TO PLAY THIS?! Incredible.
I like it because he separated parts of the piece that have different "atmosphere", character. He made it interesting, more like an opera ;p
OMG.
I love Barenboim ;_; He's one of the most talented pianists of the world!
I met that guy, he has a good sense of humor!
He plays with his own genial amazingness and exposes his thoughts loudly out on a stage in front of a huge audience - pretty heroic!

Yes, Daniel. This is your piece. Nobody does it better! Only one person possiblly - the younger Daniel Barenboim.
Exactly, I think Barenboim is one of the most authentic Beethoven interpreters, and apart from that just a brilliant musician
Magnífico..!Maravilloso..! Brillante..!
Baremboin es un genio.Me encanta la forma que interpreta.

True modern master interpreter of Beethoven.
Beethoven... arguably the greatest composer of all time.
Boy does he ever know how to pull all the best sounds out of that instrument!

Looks like Beethoven came back from the grave to reclaim his intellectual property.
I completely agree with your statement.
