What i'd like to point out is that in all the episodes we had big sets, crew, extras etc. but never once mentioned the camera. Because it doesn't matter! Those Blackmagic's are even barely rigged out - just a camera on a tripod with a non-wireless focus puller! I love your dedication and focus on the stuff that really matters! Brilliant series, brilliant idea, cant wait to see the film!
Yes! The cameras are just the tool. We didn't have the budget for wireless follow focus and other fancy stuff. We would always rather put the money on screen because that's what the audience sees. In the end, after all the color grading, adding the grain and making the image look old, the image is so processed that we could have even filmed it on an iPhone or something, haha... Thanks a lot for the comment!
Gang, that was simply amazing.. I cannot thank you enough. I have learned more from these BTS videos than in 3 years of film school. You are one of my biggest inspirations and the way you both conduct yourselves is a model of professionalism, dedication and ingenuity for me to aspire to. To say i am excited for the premiere is an understatement! I wish you all the luck and success in the world, bravo.
Great little series. Awesome behind the scenes coverage. I felt as if I was part of the crew. A big Happy New Year to everyone there. Thanks for posting all your hard work!
Merci. Merci. Merci.
I just finished your filming day videos and I cannot wait to see Splashback! Everyone was spot on from all angles, in front of the camera and behind it. The way the directors work together proves that no matter what challenge they face, even if they're opposed on an idea, they resolve it promptly and go off to the next shot. It's like they're trapped inside of a flowing waltz that gets interrupted by Iron Maiden every so often. Overall, I think you both have very bright futures ahead and the energy you both give makes me want to film something right now. As for the video series in it's entirety... thank you. You can't put a price on information even if you do nothing with it; you may need to know it later on. This series shows the highs and lows of working on the set and on location. It reveals all the restless time and effort that can be put into a shorter movie, let alone a feature. It's incredibly informative and there are moments when I was watching where I would almost cry from laughter. Bravo to everyone who took part & I wish you all success! - Shawn, USA
I've been loving ALL the work you guys do to show the world a lot of your work flow. Its super awesome and wonderful! I build small projects in N scale and I know how working with tweezers can be :). Quick question could have you have filmed your film footage using 4K cell phones? I have a friend that wants us to start filming using cell phones. I think we will lose a lot and I don't know anything about formats that After Effect needs to compost your final cuts. It seems you guys know it all plus more. Major researching hats off to that big time. Thank YOU! for everything you do.
Thanks a lot! Well, it's not common to film actual professional films with phones. A camera will always give you much more options and it's much more practical in a professional environment. However, for some home videos or youtube videos a phone can be great. We often use an iPhone to film our BTS material and the image quality is great. So you could definitely use a phone to start your filmmaking journey, why not!
What an incredibly inspirational bunch of vlogs. Despite the stresses it seemed like an awesome experience all round and I loved how the jovial humour remained right up until the end. I actually felt some jealousy over wanting to be a part of the team myself, haha! Looking forward to the finished piece
Your filmmaking videos are fantastic and fun. They're so good they could replace all film schools! I particularly enjoy the episodes on miniature work and compositing, having used similar techniques for my stop-motion films. Have you ever tried stop-motion animation?
@@sliceoflifefilm Well... yes, I do like it, very fucking much. You inspire! (amateurs, professionals, old young... everybody) and provide free education. And you entertain! Everybody is having a laugh and feels inspired. Thank you! It's hard to determine what is more impressive: your movies or your documentaries on how you made them. (By the way: Do give me a call if you are thinking of doing stop-mo, pretty please?)
To all the peeps that haven't thumbed yet: DO THAT! Schmucks! Doesn't matter what your friends think! Good grief! WELL DONE BOYS!😘😘👏👏...and Mat🥰Happy New Christmas Merry Years! ...um...delayed... that's what they call not getting...la... AAANNNYYYway. Good vid and all.
All kidding aside, man this bts series has been incredibly informative and helpful - even for a hobbyist like me. You guys rock!
Thanks a lot Doug! 🍻🍻♥️

Great work so far!
Haha! Yea, it's all building up to miniatures!

50 takes of a hand model shot. There needs to be a commercial now for splashback featuring the product placement. Lol (pun intended) 🤣
