You are not kidding about this kit. I had to cut the one platform in half to put it around the stack on the tall one.
Something to help you, my fingers get tired after so much sanding so I bought a rechargeable toothbrush with 2 heads and pulled all the bristles out. Took 2 sided tape and put fine sandpaper on it and cut one in the shape of the head and the other at an triangle. I now enjoy sanding. I have a miniature orbiting sander. Good luck and good modeling.

I'm working on this kit right now and it's a pain in the A**! The instructions leave a lot to be desired but then I've found all of the Walthers kits to be this way.

My thanks to you for helping decipher practically incomprehensible instructions from Walthers. I could not even have begun to install the piping arrangement without your video clarification. It is astonishing to me that Walthers continues to sell this kit without revamping their entire instruction material.

I agree, the instructions could use a revamp.

Great video and good pointers regarding the construction process of this kit. Regarding the Timiya yellow paint having a flat finish with the airbrush. You probably had so much pressure that the paint dried before it hit the part. Putting the paint on dry resulted in a gritty surface texture giving it a flat finish. Using less pressure would result in a gloss finish like the brush painting.

Excellent video. Like seemingly everyone who has attempted to build this kit, we all quickly realize that the instructions are literally useless. Thanks to your video, my kit was ressurected from the trash bin and now is in place on my layout. Awesome job!

Great video. Got this kit for Christmas, started working on it and quickly figured out the instructions are useless. It is more of an exploded view of an assembly, not assembly instructions. Thanks for the heads up assembly tips and paint suggestions. Not sure if your kit had this issue, but mine had a lot of parts with flash that required trimming. The main oven part, the silver box you had already built, was junk to get this to align square and fit to the smokestack base. Again, I had to trim flash and excess plastic here to get this portion fit together and look something like the diagram.
Looking for ward to a few more of you videos.

I found the instructions to be pretty bad too. In fact they aren't even 100% accurate for this kit. Most of the kits I've bought have required sanding down the parts ahead of time to get good fitment. Thanks for watching.

Great video. I've just bought a couple of these kits for a refinery project on my new layout....good to see one completed.

I think using multiple kits was a smart choice. Building more than one would not be desirable, but it would look better on the layout.

Hey Brother did you ever figure out A Way or Adapters to connect the piping on each end of the Pipe Rack! Thanks

Something I think people who buy this kit should know about is when you get to the section where you are instructed to mount the cooling coils to the base plate after you make the first section of this kit - DO NOT mount these "noodles" to the base plate... Instead, as you assemble the cooling pipes and steel frame that goes inside the pipe frame - install the "cooling noodles" to the inside of the pipes frame. As you look closely, you will notice that the ends of the cooling tubes match the inner pipe molds that surrounds the steel frame. ALSO, make sure that the steel frame insert is installed before installing the cooling tubes (noodles)
Once you have adhered the cooling pipe frame to the noodles with plastic cement, there is no need to glue the stand pipes that are molded to the cooling noodles to the base plate as they will not move once they've been cemented to the inner part of the cooling pipe frame - just make sure the legs all point down and somewhat square.
If you are going to paint the base plate prior to setting the cooling pipe arrangement to the base plate, I strongly suggest you do that before you attach the cooling pipe frame structure to the base plate. Use a generous amount of glue to adhere the piping frame to the base plate then weigh it down until the cement has fully cured bonding the pipes to the baseplate. By aligning certain ends of the cooling pipes to the baseplate, you will notice that they will align with the base plate holes but NOT all holes. check for squareness prior to cementing the pipes to the base plate then add weight to the top of the cooling pipes in order to allow the cement to adhere properly to both base plate and pipe(s).
I also had to fasten the "Steel frame" to the deck within the cooling pipes.
A challenging kit and should only be attempted to construct by someone with an "advanced" level of model building. This kit has very poor instructions written for it (as the video does suggest) and much of it does require a strong understanding on how it is to be built properly.

I like your videos and learn a lot. I understand starting at a point with some things done, but could you start by opening the box first? Then, we could see all the parts and pieces if you show them along with a look at the instructions. It's difficult to imagine what's going on in the pre-built part. Especially this being so full and complicated. But as I said, good video.

The first building's I did I really didn't intend to film, which is why the box opening part is missing. Going forward, any new buildings will be filmed right from opening the box.

Have you considered (or are planning on) building these and selling them, especially to those without the patience or with problems holding things steady?

    • @nscaler454
      @nscaler454  Год назад

I don't think so. I doubt the kit would stay together in shipping, and the shipping costs wouldn't be worth it to a customer. I'm sure most anyone could find someone to paint and build a kit in their local area.

where do parts 92 and 93 go??? They are no where to be found on the instruction plans

I ran into the same problem. I had to physically match up those parts to see where they fit.

The instructions are worthless. Used the picture on the box as a guide. I glued the bottom platform to the large stack and the small one on the right. I then glued the rest of the bottom stack to those 2 stacks. Everything then lined up. Don't put all of the covers on the stacks until you align the pipes to the stacks. I used the picture on the box to place the ladders. There are extra parts for signs that don't have any instructions. Pain to build but looks good when done.

I was absolutely disappointed with this kit nothing lined up some parts were to big other didn't line up properly and legs for the building started to snap off
