  • Recorded an improvised guitar solo and original composition using my PRS Custom 24 30th Anniversary loaded with Bareknuckle Pickups Ceramic Nailbomb in the bridge and VHII in the neck.
I absolutely love this combo in this particular guitar. The Ceramic Nailbomb has an aggressive bite and sounds right for heavy rhythm guitars whilst the VHII has a smooth, woody tone which sounds excellent on lead guitars and cleans.
Rhythm guitars recorded using the Ceramic Nailbomb bridge pickup.
Initial lead part using the Ceramic Nailbomb followed by the VHII in the neck position.
    Guitars tuned to drop C.
All guitars recorded using my Line 6 Helix in Logic Pro X.
    Drums programmed using Superior Drummer.
Bass recorded using my Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5 string bass.
I hope this helps those trying to decide on these pickups, particularly in a PRS or mahogany bodied guitar. Please let me know your feedback and don't forget to like, share and subscribe to my channel. Thanks for watching!

Sounds great! I am considering putting Bare Knuckle Mule neck pickup into my PRS SE Custom.

Really nice demo! I got BK Nailbomb in my PRS too. It’s also tuned to drop C with 11-54. In my case I do find the top end a bit harsh and I do feel like a get a lot of string noise in the signal. Every single tiny slide results in a squeak which has been driving me mildly nuts. I dont heard that in your demo though. Any similar experience?

Thanks Tomas. In my experience, I didn't find the Ceramoc Nailbomb to be too harsh in my PRS but the tone of this guitar is quite dark so it compliments it well.

I've really wanted to see how the Nailbomb neck sounded for leads, but i'm really liking that VHII neck pickup. It sounds super expressive and vocal.

Thanks Philip. Yeah the VHII works really well on leads in this guitar. My favourite neck humbucker is the Cold Sweat neck though. A Nailbomb bridge and Cold Sweat neck is a killer combo!

Killer playing man, the c bomb has major bite to it.
Do you find it harsh at all? Do you have to eq it much?
I’ve been contemplating the alnico vs ceramic nailbomb for a while now. My guitar is a mahogany body hardtail, I think it would benefit from the extra bite of the ceramic but I’m not too sure.

Thanks Jared. I definitely think you should go for the Ceramic Nailbomb in the guitar you described. Mine definitely doesn't sound harsh and I don't have to eq it much to sit nicely in the mix. The Alnico Nailbomb will sound too hairy on the other hand whilst the Ceramic will sound more tight, focused and with more bite. Hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing! Great demo! How are the in between positions with this set? (coil spit) How versatile is this set in your opinion? I have the same guitar and I'm wondering about changing pickups...

Hi Pedro, thanks for checking out the demo. To answer your question, the in-between positions also sound great, especially the coil split. They are very usable both clean and dirty. The clean coil split is great for ballads and delicate compositions but it sounds equally good with some gain as well.
Honestly, this set is fantastic in a PRS. If you want a little more bite in thr Bridge, I recommend a Ceramic Nailbomb there with the Cold Sweat in the neck. This is one of thr best combos IMHO. I hope this helps.

@@PhilCurrieMusic Thanks for your patience and time! Just one more question: How good are they cleaning the sound when you fade the volume knob? (I'm kinda old school and I tend to use the volume and tone knobs a lot) Alinico is my cup of tea! The VHII has a lower output rather than the nail bomb in the neck?

    • @PhilCurrieMusic
      @PhilCurrieMusic  2 года назад +1

@@TZIZ you're welcome Pedro. These pickups clean up really nicely and the good thing about Bareknuckles is that even the high output pickups on dirty settings are really clear sounding. You can still hear the individual notes. Re Alinico Nailbomb, I hear it's also great. I recommended the Ceramic as it's slightly brighter sounding which is a good match for a Mahogany guitar..that said I've heard plenty of demos of Alnico Nailbombs in PRS guitars and they also sound great. Another option is the Silo. It's Alnico V and really open sounding.
For the neck I do recommend the Cold Sweat Neck over the VHII but if you're after a more vintage sound them go for the VHII.
