I really should have used a different coloured background to fold the paper, because white paper on white background with white gloves is just a recipe for the camera going of focus, ugh! 😱
Wow!! Who knew how much work it takes to make a sketchbook, but with my poor judgment I’d fold all the pages the wrong way😂 when I saw you run out of tape I was like 🤭 but thank goodness you had another roll😂 I’m excited to see how you’ll fill that book next month. I thought about doing a drawing challenge this October but I’m not sure I will! I’ll definitely do some fall/Halloween inspired artwork, though. Once things are back to normal I’d like to go back to making Halloween cupcakes/cookies. I used to make all sorts of monsters and I felt like a mad scientist decorating them😂 maybe a video idea for next year if it’s normal to hand out homemade sweets by then!
Oh that sounds like fun baking homemade treats! Not that I am very good at baking, lol. Ah yes, the tape....I had to scramble to find more. Shops are still shut so I am using up everything in my studio. This is why I hoard stuff! 😂I took my time with the folding so as to not get it wrong, haha! I have started drawing drafts for October so hopefully I will have 31 pictures done on time 😁
I made my first concertina today. It was so much fun. I had an extra Harry Potter book that I pulled from my library. So I use that as my front and back cover. I tore all my paper so it would give it a rugged look. I do love a good deckled edge. I can’t wait to use it! I too had the overlapping issue.
Great little book! I took note for the usage of double sided tape instead of glue. I won't be doing inktober, this year.I'm off Instagram and last year I swapped a third of the prompts. I have other projects and it's too busy at work at this time of the year. Enjoy your new sketchbook and I'll be watching the video at the end.
Thank you! I skipped a couple of years but I felt like I wanted to have another go at it this year. It's such a big commitment though, I hope I can get through it! 😂
I love your process of making this sketch and also using double-sided tape is clean and neat. Also how u connected the loose pages together. Thanks for sharing
Adorable! I do plan on doing an October art challenge, but I'm still looking for a prompt list that works for me, maybe one of the witchtobers. I went through all of my stash of sketchbooks and they all have either too many or not enough pages. So I finally decided to grab one that had way too many pages and make it my dedicated 'monthly art challenge book'. I did the math and should be able to fit 3 full 31 day challenges (or 4+ half finished, lol) in it.
That's a really good idea doing multiple challenges in a sketchbook to fill all the pages! 😆 I did consider Drawlloween which has some fun prompts but I think I have more ideas for Inktober so I will just go with that. 😊
Hi, good video! If i may make a suggestion, after glueing the paper to the cover h with less watery glue) ,if you let it dry under a heavy book -between wax paper/deli paper- it will come out much flatter.
I'd have to rewatch my own video to remember how to put this book together, lol! But yes, it does work quite well - I have it on my bookshelf now that it's finished. 😁
I like how you made this, I might try something similar. I have started inktober, but never finished. I think I will write out my own prompts, with some easy and some harder, depending on how I feel that day. Maybe even add a few tutorials from RUclips, to help me out. The point to me, is to create and experiment, even if it isn’t as good as I want it to be. But for me, I need more structured prompts or ideas, so I don’t get frustrated. Having a dedicated book to create in is a first step. Thanks for sharing how you did yours!
It is definitely a challenge and I always find some prompt words much harder than others. I think I have an idea for each day, but some might get changed at the last minute.
Oh my goodness, that looked like a lot of work, but it turned out so nicely. What a treat to have your own homemade book for Inktober! Can't wait to see what you do!
@@BeckyTregear yes! I'm excited about the theme I've chosen this year. I've been working on my preliminary sketches already and they make me feel happy.
Thank you for sharing this. I've seen information on Pinterest and RUclips on how to make a accordion sketchbook out of one piece of paper. But unless you have a super big piece of paper, the sketchbook would be better for a pocketbook or travel. It looks like your sketchbook will lie flat. I had bought a tiny Hanamule zigzag sketchbook. The covers were not on right. I couldn't lay it flat. I had to take the top cover off and tape it on. Thank you for another fun video.
They're quite difficult to make, especially because of paper length! I am sure there is a neater solution but I am happy with how mine turned out. It just has a few seams....lol!
Wow, that's pretty creative and I love the sheets of paper you used for the covers. Do you happen to remember where you got them? Can't wait to see your video on the prompts for inktober :)
It was a large sheet of wrapping paper that I found a few years ago in one of those fancy papeterie stores called Paper Republic. I have updated the description to add a link to their website with all of their current papers. I think the actual papers are made by Rifle Paper Co.
Instead of gluing the first page to the cover, I made front and back covers that are reusable. I just slip the first and last pages into sort of envelopes I’ve glued to the covers.
Love your accordion style art journal! I bought a roll of art paper, on sale, so I could cut different any size of paper I need. This is perfect to create the accordion style art journal! Thank you for sharing you tips on how to create this journal. On my art journals that don’t have an elastic band, I use the cheap stretchy hair bands from The Dollar Tree.
Wow, so creative! The cat paper is delightful. I love how you always try new things and never take things too seriously with your projects. You make art fun and I always learn something new. Looking forward to video when you are finished.😎
Challenge-wise, Inktober is a little too intense for me. But I'm impressed by those who take it on. A fabulous book you've made - can't wait to see what goes in it!

I've never done Inktober before, maybe this year will be my inaugural one? I'm definitely making myself an accordion book though either way!
Best of luck with it if you do! It is time consuming but highly satisfying finishing all of the prompts. 😆

Very cool share. Great idea. So creative.

Great idea 😍 the cover paper is adorable 😍 I would like to do the Inktober this year, too. Let’s see how it goes 💪
It's always such a big commitment, creating 31 drawings in a month! I hope to fill the book though, I have been preparing in advance.
What a cute diy.
Thank you 😊

Excellent demo and gives us great ideas for building this sort of sketch book which gives us so much scope! Thank you Beck-meister!
