I think the “dadada” is quite clever as it gives non-Dutch speakers something to sing along to. Will make people remember it in an international song contest.
Janne ....watching the music video and reading the lyrics ....isn't it all about her "boyfriend" that he is dead by a motorcycle accident? I mean it was obvious to me in the first moment I saw the video but I dont see it in the reaction videos.....Am I so wrong about the meaning?
Da da da part didn't bother me at all. Its telling the pain perfectly for me. I can feel this pain with her voice, with all harmonies. Its a perfect song !
Yes very true... I also feel the emotion in this part of the song. Da da da, there is a sense of nostalgia in it, like remembering the cadence of a song connected with a memory but not recalling the words to the song, and getting lost in the moment of remembering and longing.
I agree. Sometimes in love you can’t find the right words when you’re in emotional pain. That’s what the song is about; the pain of the loss of a loved one.
Do not disagree with you many times but this time I do. It's a perfectly crafted song. Non Dutch people cannot sing along to the song but they CAN sing along to that "da da da" part and having watched about 40 reaction videos about this song, they WILL sing along!! Also, you said they "did something" with her voice, they just put a live version on RUclips and her voice holds up to the studio version. Maybe listen to that one.
I'm dutch so biased but i was captivated by its pureness and authenticity. I couldn't stop listening to it. I think the "dadada' and "oehoeahaa"s are smart and immediately sticks into my head without getting old. I am absolutely in love with it. A little background: it's about her depression and now growing older and looking back embracing the sadness and grief as a part of her she cherishes. Here’s the live version 👉ruclips.net/video/FkcR-zI-0Wk/видео.html
For me, the "dadada" gives me time to get myself back together from the emotion of the lyrics. This is my favourite this year (so far, but think it will remain so) because I lost my most beloved 💔 person last year. The lyrics are so powerful, for me.
I am so so sorry for you! You are so strong! God bless you! Jesus Christ loves you so much! You’re so loved by Him! He died on the cross for your sins so that you can have a chance for eternal life because Jesus is the only way to heaven. He can take all your burdens and fears and problems and turn it into peace and freedom! He hears you, pray to Him and speak with Him! He WANTS you- even after all the things you did! Give your life to Him and experience the best gift ever! Accept Him as your Lord and Saviour. Confess your sins and ask for forgiveness! „I am the way, the truth and the life, no one can come to the Father except through me“ (John 14:6) Have a blessed day and a wonderful time and stay strong! It is so worth it! Trust Him ❤️
"It's catchy, but is it catchy enough?" I heard De Diepte for the first time during my break at work and I was singing it for the rest of the day, so I'd definitely say it's catchy
ja, jy moet beslis trots voel // ja, je moet zeker trots zijn. :) It should be the rule that all sing in their home language. i love the sound of her singing "...je naam", sounds so beautiful compared to Afrikaans taal "jou naam"
One of the best songs so far this year! Full of emotion, with a very good interpretation..hopefully, if the live performance will not disappoint has good chances to be in the top 5..
I first didn't like the chorus too. But with the live-version on Mathijs Gaat Door it grows on me. The chorus could be a great moment in the final when people sing along
I think it's awesome :) Got a London Grammar vibe too. Georgina, I'm slightly curious: how does the Dutch language sound to you as native British? Thx & enjoy your travel!
This is a great song!! The Dutch language feels beautiful, S10's voice is great and full of emotion. One of my favorite ones this year and I'm hoping it will do pretty well in Turin.
I really love this song! This is the kind of music I listen to in a daily and I’m so excite for this. The lyrics is so good and a simple-effective staging will cement it’s spot in the contest. 🇳🇱✨
As a dutchie, many of us were worried that Europe wouldn't understand our language, so my guess is that they put in the "dadada" part so people can sing along. I saw a few people that reacted to the song sing along with that part.
As a south african, although English-derived, I understand it perfectly. I have never heard nederlands sung so beautifully, I love the sound of her voice with "...je naam" versus afrikkans "jou naam."
This song is beautiful 😍 the "ooo, haaaa" is my favorite part of the song as it's so beautiful and graceful. This along with Poland and Australia's entries are my top 3 favorites so far😍😍😍
I personally really love this song. I think the da da da part is included so it makes is easy for non dutch people to sing along with it. It really got stuck in my head all day tbh.
She was 17 years old when she signed with the Dutch hip-hop label Noah's Ark in January 2018.[2] Her EPs Antipsychotics (2017) and Lithium (2018) are named after drugs that are sometimes prescribed for psychological complaints. S10 is praised for her bold and honest lyrics about her personal psychological problems: she herself was admitted to a clinic in the past for depression and psychosis.[3] she sings from a real place and hope that others in dark times can be helped by her music
It really grows on you! I recognize some of the points you made, but I also just can't stop listening now. It pulls you in - in an almost hypnotic way. I love it.
First heard this song this morning, have been playing it all day. What will stand out this year are songs that are different, there’s no other song like this (so far) this year, definitely a qualifier and potential top 10 depending on the running order.
Thanks Georgina, Don't know what to make of the song yet. In 2019 there was a lot of critisism about Duncan and he won. He was pretty unknown for us and so is this singer.
The most emotional song in this years ESC. I love it from the first second that I've heard it. It's so deep, so sad and so wonderful. She have a beauriful voice and +1 for the "dadada" part. I really like it! 12 point from Germany ✌️🏳️🌈
In the clip she gets confronted what happened, she got into an argument with her boyfriend, he drives off alone and dies. Her tattoo lights up and he appears as a ghost and she still feels deeply connected to him, after seeing his motorbike at the garage at the `braketest` sign she walks off and cries her eyes out and his presence inside her fades. My reaction to the first time listening to this song was exactly like yours :) But then I watched the live version in a Dutch tv program called *"Mathijs gaat Door",* and then I FELT it much stronger, as live there is more emotion in her voice, I think. Even made me cry , and since then I can feel it even in this version. So I would be very interested in your opinion of the *live version!*
the music video is simple, but emotional... :c she had a boyfriend who died in a motorcycle accident... now he's a ghost. in the end he kissed her on the cheek...
it is funny that everyone is breaking his neck about the da-da-da's .the meaning behind it is actually quit funny. it is because the song wasn''t finished yet when she was singing it in at the studio.she was humming along with the music because there wasn't a lyric for it. and founding it very good sounding. and there for they have letting it in in the song
This is really beautiful and I love that it is in Dutch, easy qualifier and probably top 10! Also I really like the doo doos I just find them really calming and when they come on during the recap I think it will instant remind voters, but who knows! Excited to see the performance in Turin
I think that this will win. Personally, she doesn’t need to belt notes out because we can already feel the emotion and that’s what music is all about. As a non-Dutch speaker, I don’t need to understand the lyrics, the song is already a catchy hook line with the oooos and ahhhhs .
Finally a "vocal coach" (no offence , i sometimes think people miss use that title) that can hear the tuning and things done to it ! well done ! By far the Best i've seen. you address allot of details love it !
For me personally this is one of the strongest songs we have so far, but I think the whole strength of the song is only reached, if you know the backstory of S10 and this song: She has multiple psychological issues, especially schizophrenia, which have affected her whole life. This song is dedicated to all the sad and lonly moments you have in your live, which is something she really knows what she is talking about. What I've seen so far, the "da, da, da" part is actually something people have liked the most about this song, because they have something to sing along to, even though they don't speak durch. So I think your doubts aren't so much of concern.
This song isn’t about a relationship it’s about her life and her struggles. She was so deep in a depression that she couldn’t get out of it and the part that says: “ik zit diep en ik wil jou niet laten gaan”, she talks about herself, she doesn’t want to let herself go in this depression. She also said that this song is love letter to her emoties back then. Thank you Stien for this amazing song! I’m still listening to it till this day I’m proud that we came with this entry 🇳🇱❤️
The dadada for me feels like the " i don't wanna hear". Adds to the vibes and lyrics. But again, just a feeling. Crying out emotions don't go in words, that's all!
The Netherlands hasn’t done really good at eurovision with songs in Dutch, I think the DaDaDaDaDa en the Ohoo’s are actually great because it gives the opportunity for all countries to Remeber or even sing along to it. I am very exited to hear a crowd sing along to it actually
Dutch person here; The song is about the loss of someone you love and everyone deals with it differently. The luminous man is the soul of the deceased loved one who enters her to give love and peace back to here. Diep means Deep, she falls deep
been waiting for you to react to it! i think the “daa-daas” were a choice because it’s in Dutch and those lyricless spots are easy to be sung when you don’t know Dutch
I think this song suits the radio way better then a contest. Its really quality and a little to big for ESC. Same as Davina Michelle with the Power of Water.
As a dutch person I wonder how many words you were able to understand (or recognize after knowing the lyrics). After all english and dutch are of the same language family.
The "dudududududu" is something that is in almost al her songs so its kind of her style and with the "dudududu" is kind a piece of emotion that needs to come out. ( im dutch so im trying to explain it )
It usually happens that in Eurovision contestants will fill in some parts of the songs like we see in the "dadada" parts of this song, but in this case, I think S10 did the best job in filling this gaps and made it sound so good, so romantic, so nostalgic. Whereas if you listen to other songs of this year's Eurovision that use the same resource you'll see a big difference. Personally I was pretty annoyed by this year's songs that did fill in the gaps with this resource as I felt that they didn't make any sense, and some even ruined the whole song for me since it felt like it was incomplete and took a lot of meaning from the song. But this song, I felt in love with it the first time I heard it (and I didn't have a clue of what she was saying but still I felt like I could relate to it so bad!) Great job S10 ❤️ this song will remain in my memory for a really long time!
It's funny, I have a completely differing opinion. This is the first song this year, that gave me winner vibes and the more I listen to and watch it, the more emotional I seem to get over this song. The "onomatopoeia"-bits seem to bother some people, but me not at all. The "oooo-oooo-aaaa-aaa" could be an expression of whailing/crying about the feelings presented in her text, the "da-da-da" is probably not about not wanting to know what else to write, but a kind of suspense. The moment of calm and trying to hold your feelings inside of yourself, when you realise the world goes down for you, but you don't want to cry, yet at some point in time you might just break: Then the "ooo-ooo-aaa-aaa" sets in. It's a wonderful song and, looking at the songs that are currently out, I'll be very bothered, if it doesn't make the Top 3 tbh.
My two cents on the "da da da" is that I'm not really bothered by it. I'm sure she could've come up with words, but if she believed there was lyrically nothing left to add, there's really nothing left to say. In no way comparing the two, but I have to think of Otis Redding's whistling, which also seems like a loss for words, but still adding emotion to a song. Like a sort of child-like response to overwhelming sadness.
what i imagine with the "dadada" is. When you are struggeling with depression, you often tend to close out your surroundings. Like when she sits at the table with what i presume is family or something, but are not spritually present at all. She also mentions in the lyrics that she acts like a child. When emotions run high we tend to act out of our norm and are not willing to listen to reason. The "DADADA" can therefor be seen as a protection from outside interference.
If i am not wrong....the song is about depression, loss of innocence and the lost of ability in feeling love. The light symbolizes the hope and attraction other people felt in her...the man in the video was trying to help her but she refused to be helped because she doesn't believe she deserves to be helped. I do think the hollow feel of her voices matches the vibe of the song...it's meant to be seen from a depressed person's perspective and how they felt about themselves and the world during that time.
I am fairly sure that man in the video was her boyfriend who committed suicide through crashing his motorcycle on the road. He's hugging 'death' at some point in the video, driving away with him, rather than staying with her.
Do you know the feeling That your dreams won't come true Are you ever scared It will always stay the same Because it's raining every day And I can't see anything You and me together, right? That would always be so Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name Oh, my love, what should I do I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go I'm hiding under the table And I hope that you'll find me I've been waiting all night Oh, I'm acting childish I'm biting my tongue again And I know you do too But god, what else can I do When is it enough19 Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name Oh, my love, what should I do I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go No, no, no, no Don't want to let you go Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name Oh, my love, what should I do I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go
S10 with song De Diepte is now the third best streamed Eurovision song online. Going by last year the best streamed Eurovison song online won, so you can predict which songs will end up high in the rankings. Everyone reacts positively on the dadada di part, they love to sing it with her, so this vocal coach was completely off with that. Some would call this not creative lyric writing, but a song with obla di obla da in it was one of the most popular songs ever.
for me its number 1. Sadly its an eurovision song, it gets much popularity of it which makes me kind of sad. Songs are way better when they're not as popular and i really wish this one wasn't too. 1. The Netherlands 2. Australia 3. Italy
Oehoe, aha, refers to breathing technique, I've read. The song is not about a boy or a relationship but her own past with anxiety. The butterfly refers to spiritual rebirthing. The lit spots are painspots that are gone. She got over the anxiety. Oehoe, aha is following that theory not because of not knowing words but well chosen.
I personally don't particularly like the translation, it's very choppy since you miss some nuance. For example "acting childish" it's rather "it's almost like I'm a darn child", meaning she dislikes how she beats herself up over how she feels due to his actions Anyways good video, thanks for reacting!
As an Dutch person, please search for the translation. The reason for the dadada, oehhh, aaah. Is because otherwise no one can sing along, our language is quiet hard to understand 😅
I think the “dadada” is quite clever as it gives non-Dutch speakers something to sing along to. Will make people remember it in an international song contest.
It also "makes" the song
Helemaal mee eens.. ♥️🎶🎵🎶da dada dah dah da da🎵🎶
I disagree as it already has the oooh and ahhh in the chorus already
Absolutely agree. My number 1 at the moment. Masterpiece.
I agree 😁Without all the ooooohs, aaaaahs I wouldn't be able sing anything 🤣
As a German I really can feel the pain in her voice. I just love this song
The English translation doesnt do it justice really! But in Dutch it's just beautiful en poetic, like Art!
Mee eens, iets is verloren door vertaling
In English it sound kinda standard. The Dutch lyrics touch your soul. I guess it's the combination of her voice and the words that make it so moving.
I absolutely agree, the English translation lost a lot. That's why one should not try to translate songs and poems.
Janne ....watching the music video and reading the lyrics ....isn't it all about her "boyfriend" that he is dead by a motorcycle accident? I mean it was obvious to me in the first moment I saw the video but I dont see it in the reaction videos.....Am I so wrong about the meaning?
I do feel like the “dadada” work really well in this song. Cause it gives some time to build up to the chorus, without weird sounds from the language.
Yes me too
weird sounds ahhahha
You mean *insert chainsaw noise*? (that's the best I can explain a Dutch g, I don't know why we have it as one of the only languages in the world)
@@JamesNewham linguistically it is commonly called a soft G. its a comfortable sound for those who speak most germanic or celtic languages

Totally agree! Sometimes you don’t need lyrics to understand and feel the music
You can feel the pain through dadadadda? Man, I need that stuff you smoke too
I agree. Sometimes in love you can’t find the right words when you’re in emotional pain. That’s what the song is about; the pain of the loss of a loved one.
S10 said that she had written lyrics for the “da da da” part, but she feels that its more powerful how it is now
exactly!
Did she make a recording of it? I bet it sounded amazing
s10 didnt write it.... matthijs wrote it
Do not disagree with you many times but this time I do. It's a perfectly crafted song. Non Dutch people cannot sing along to the song but they CAN sing along to that "da da da" part and having watched about 40 reaction videos about this song, they WILL sing along!! It is very pretty, but maybe it helps in fact if you understand at least part of the lyrics. Dutch sounds very soft and sweet here.
Countries singing in their own language is always a +
For me, the "dadada" gives me time to get myself back together from the emotion of the lyrics. This is my favourite this year (so far, but think it will remain so) because I lost my most beloved 💔 person last year. The lyrics are so powerful, for me.

I don’t think there is a lot of production on her voice. It’s just the way she sounds. Check out her live videos.

i’d say even top 5 😍 i love this song. good luck Netherlands from Sweden 🇳🇱❤️🇸🇪

S10 is my winner for now, she just seems so real in what she's singing about
Since Europe doesn't have a lot of Dutch speakers it was clever of Stien (S10) to put the dadada part in it
Well, it's still the 10th most spoken language in Europe. Not that bad
18 million speakers is quite an amount

It's actually a love letter to herself, because she went through a dark time being depressed.
The "dadada" part is my favourite bit!

I'd personally translate "de diepte" to "the depths" instead of "the deep"
yeah, 'the deep' would be 'het diepe'
or the abyss, since it is about falling into a deep, depressive state
She did a stunning live performance in the show 'Matthijs Gaat Door'. I really recommend it to give it a listen!
I could see this doing very well. It gives me Belgium 2017 vibes which to do this day is one of my favorite eurovision songs of all time.
People saying the "dadada" borthers them. What about the "bucka-mhm-buckbuckbuck-mhm" chicken sound from Netta? I'm still recovering from that!

it is funny that everyone is breaking his neck about the da-da-da's .the meaning behind it is actually quit funny. it is because the song wasn''t finished yet when she was singing it in at the studio.she was humming along with the music because there wasn't a lyric for it. and founding it very good sounding. and there for they have letting it in in the song
Every year I come tho this channel when Eurosong is about to start ❤️ love The channel so much
This is really beautiful and I love that it is in Dutch, easy qualifier and probably top 10!
I love it so much. The Dutch is really nice
This is my number 1 so far.
it is her written song the dadada and oooohoe has a meaning the oooohoe stands for highs and lows dadada for pause or breaks
love the song and love it is in dutch. I might not understand the lyrics, but i still feel the vibe of the song
She is much better live, it works and I love it. Hope it does well.
I think the dadada and aaah parts are a smart choice making the song easier to sing along with for those unfamiliar with the Dutch language.
Dutch person here; The song is about the loss of someone you love and everyone deals with it differently. The luminous man is the soul of the deceased loved one who enters her to give love and peace back to here. Diep means Deep, she falls deep
That's the goosebumps part dada and the oehoe and aahaaa...
Have a great time there ❤
I love this!
I love this song! OMG! Its so addicted! My top 5! Hugs from Portugal ❣❣
I think this song will come alive on stage
been waiting for you to react to it! i think the “daa-daas” were a choice because it’s in Dutch and those lyricless spots are easy to be sung when you don’t know Dutch
We're back ❤️ nice to see you
I agree with your thoughts, but my feeling is that this one is a slow grower and it gets you obsessed after a while. I’m really loving it now
I think this song suits the radio way better then a contest. Its really quality and a little to big for ESC. Same as Davina Michelle with the Power of Water.
Update 3 days later: I adore it. Best feeling playing this while walking. Agree @mark
My personal winner!🤍 12p from Croatia. So stunning!
The chorus was the best part!
I think the da da da suits it perfectly.
But this song, I felt in love with it the first time I heard it (and I didn't have a clue of what she was saying but still I felt like I could relate to it so bad!) Great job S10 ❤️ this song will remain in my memory for a really long time!
my winner of the season
first one that’s not liking the dada’s … it’s very emotional song. this is a sure qualification!
For me the 'da da' holds all the emotions...
My winner so far ❤️🇳🇱
S10 sang her song live at Matijs gaat door. Impressive
Tonight she will give a live performance in a Dutch TV-show.
what i imagine with the "dadada" is.
This was my favorite song this year.
Do you know the feeling
That your dreams won't come true
Are you ever scared
It will always stay the same
Because it's raining every day
And I can't see anything
You and me together, right?
That would always be so
Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name
Oh, my love, what should I do
I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go
I'm hiding under the table
And I hope that you'll find me
I've been waiting all night
Oh, I'm acting childish
I'm biting my tongue again
And I know you do too
But god, what else can I do
When is it enough19
Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name
Oh, my love, what should I do
I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go
No, no, no, no
Don't want to let you go
Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name
Oh, my love, what should I do
I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go
S10 with song De Diepte is now the third best streamed Eurovision song online.
1. The Netherlands
2. Australia
3. Italy
A little correction.. in the lyrics she is saying that she is biting on her *teeth* not her tongue. ✌️
For example "acting childish" it's rather "it's almost like I'm a darn child", meaning she dislikes how she beats herself up over how she feels due to his actions
Anyways good video, thanks for reacting!
As an Dutch person, please search for the translation. The reason for the dadada, oehhh, aaah. Is because otherwise no one can sing along, our language is quiet hard to understand 😅
it's going to be a good year! i love this song, and poland, australia, usually only one or 2 that i like but this is looking promising!
