    This is a great hobby plasma cnc system. If you're wanting to do high volume precision cnc work you may want to look at a larger plasma cnc system. This would be a great starter plasma cnc system to get your feet wet with plasma cnc.
    With a big sculptural project just around the corner, I needed to invest in a cnc plasma cutting system. In this video I go through the process of choosing the perfect cnc based on my needs in my shop.

    Thanks for such a great video with really useful information. My students ask me what they should buy and most of them have a very tight budget. For the last year I've been able to suggest Langmuir but I didn't have very many recommendations. Now I can send them to this video. Your discussion of what you need and what your priorities are is incredibly important. I really hope you do an update in about 6 months or a year. Thanks very helpful. It’s the other stuff needed that makes a CNC machine possible. I’m needing to build an area to accommodate the 4x4 one I’m interested in. Thanks not a compliment, that a fact. All said and done. It really is what are you using the machine for. You can’t put a value on service, when a problem comes up. Looking forward to see what you are making.

    Looks like a nice little machine, especially for the money.
    CNC really is a game changer. As a boat builder for over 35 years, I learned how to build stuff by hand - cutting, assembling, fairing, etc. All labor intensive and easily screwed up if you're not paying attention.
    For the last 5 or so years, I went from having a vague idea about CNC to programming and cutting things on a 5 axis router. To say I like the new way is a massive understatement. It is the way of the future. I bet you'll find a ton of uses for your machine that you didn't even consider before you got it.

  • @4speed3pedals
    @4speed3pedals 4 года назад +1

    I quickly looked over comments and your comment beneath the video. What plasma cutter did you purchase to complete the machine? I understand from a different video that it is best to choose one that does not have high frequency start, which can cause interference. Hobart manufactures one that has a built in air compressor which can lower the cash layout and free up space - I have no experience with the Hobart cutter and have not researched it. Thanks for posting this video.

    • @ArtfullyRogue

      I think buying a plasma cnc is such a personal purchase in the sense that it all depends on what you plan to do with it. The Langmuir Crossfire is small but it works perfect for what I'm doing in my shop. If I working cutting parts or designs for mass production its too small to make a ton a profit on. I usually do one off designs as part of larger projects.

    I spent $6,000 on getting my Go Torch setup. Just a 2'x2' I've never used it. Go Torch (Plasma Cam) would like me to "upgrade" $4,000 before I can actually be able to cut something. I'm in the process of making a controller from scratch to use Mach 3 and Sheetcam to run my Go Torch. Thinking the first thing to cut is a 4 square foot middle finger and shipping it to Plasmacam.

    • @ArtfullyRogue
      @ArtfullyRogue  4 года назад +2

      Now that sounds like a good first project. Although I chose the Langmuir, I was slightly disappointed because I also bought the 2x2 table and barely 2 weeks later they came out with a 4x4 for not much more. It would have been nice if they said, hey wait a couple weeks and get a bigger table for a just a few hundred dollars extra.

    • @ArtfullyRogue

      @@ArtfullyRogue I respectfully disagree. You cannot buy a stand-alone table. It is turn-key and includes everything needed to start cutting (except your power, air, and ground of course). Not only is the water-table standard, you cannot buy a 4400 without it (included in the price). They're all built that way. The FlexCut 80 is STANDARD for the 4400 and IS included in the price. You can upgrade the FC 80 to the FC 125 (optional). Here's their number, 775-673-2200, call them Monday and TRY to order a 4400 without it being a water table and not having a power supply (plasma machine). It's not possible. Being able to sustain 60-75psi keeps the cuts nice and clean with very little dross clean up. Needed? Probably not. Preferred? Yep

      Sage advise.
      That is the key with adding any piece of equipment to your shop.
      With your machine being two axis, writing X / Y code will become second nature to you.
      As long as the machine understands standard G codes, and M codes, you will probably find yourself writing quick programs out of your head, rather than going thru Fusion 360, which is great software.
