The funniest part is that this isn't too far off from how the fight usually played out for me
he only does this when you chase him while he's trying to activate his fire. when you're too close hell just roll away until it activates
@@praiseloaf9646 I get where they were coming from now when designing this, but I kind of wish they didn't put this in the game at the same time. I had no clue this was a specific reaction to a specific attempt at an attack and I feel like that is horribly conveyed. I beat the fight without knowing why he seemed to roll so much and a lot of other people did too.
Idk man just feels a little weird especially given fights in previous games where I never really felt this way other than bed of chaos and pinwheel

What stops this is actually the giant just gaining enough distance from you to be able to use the flame of the fell god attack. Because you kept closing the distance after every roll he kept rolling.
The fact every boss has this glitch to repeat the same attack

I believe there may be a spot you can stand relative to him that stops this rolling B.S.. But an A.I. summon is not going to understand how to do that, and will chase the giant into rolling constantly. There is a distance far away that makes the giant chase you instead. You have to dodge the fire balls, and shield bashes, but it's better than him rolling back, and forth constantly like a souls newb.

You can summon him for this after speaking to him in the lava pool
You gotta talk to him at Mt Gelmir and walk through the correct door to FG boss arena to see the summon sign.

I'm telling you this is why I hate the fire Giant. they programmed in it to run away half the time. just so you can see it. it's not a good design. fighting giant enemies just results in you attacking their feet.

At around that percentage of health, he'll go into phase two with the fire attack. To do the phase transition, he needs to be a certain distance away, usually he just rolls away. But he's stuck between a cliff and a hill, so he can't roll in any other directions, causing him to never get far enough away. just back off and let him transition
From still hasn't figured out how arenas affect boss fights. It's incredible.

I've fought the fire giant 3 times now. First two times, had no problem with him. Last night, he wouldn't stop rolling away. Like my rng was messed up

You need to understand how bosses work in soulsborne games.
You can bait every boss to do certain attacks to make them easier depending on your playstyle. Ie. Mages staying at a specfic distance to bait dragons breath which is easily avoided on torrent to sling spells on the dragons face (its weak spot)
What's happened here is your at a specific distance which forces the giant to do his oppressive 40 yard roll, while he can still do it at melee range it's not as common.
Hell I even bait this roll on my range build for shits and giggles.
So this is what all the bosses feel like.

When it's a player playing as the boss : spams the most efficient and safest attack
I LOVED that boss fight, being overleveled for that area and after fighting Ancient ZERO of Zamor I felt so blessed to have an actual challenge.
Challenge? It’s just a health sponge that runs away for the first half of the fight, and then sits there for you to wail on for the second half.
At first playthrough I hate this boss, but suprisingly on NG+ he's fun to fight (at least for me). Also, he becomes way easier compared to Elden Beast bullet hell.

He kept rolling because of Lautenna, the ai sensed damage coming and was acting everytime. Lol that or Aleksander scared the shit out of him.
If you’re too close he’s gonna roll away for the second phase
