Next year once you start making your new game your team should definitely do dev updates if they can so that it builds a community, keeps hype and most importantly gives feedback without having to release the game and reveal all thr content bc you can keep it secret unlike a beta for example Bonus: dev updates also give more recognition for devs❤
'Stand-alone Vault Hunters' Honestly, I was recently thinking how it would be for Vault Hunters to be a real independent game without having the rely on Minecraft as an engine. I think the game would run and play better being made from the ground up. I also think it will give you a lot of freedom for additions. Best of luck!

I fully agree with the idea that these sort of games need to allow you to feel overpowered. AND that having a chase item (goal) is a way to add meaning to being overpowered. In the end, i find myself usually quitting games once I reach that overpowered state, but have nothing else to work towards. Vault hunters is great because of the journey to getting to being overpowered is enjoyable, but also you have artifacts, herald fights, and other goals you can chase, such as have all legendary modifiers on gear and stuff. And now we also have paradox vaulting, and just doing God altars fully max is so much content, that can be replayed, since the core of the game is fun. Just wanted to give my thoughts and praise to you Iskall, I find you being an amazing person and an amazing game designer.
It’s never wrong to make a game too easy if there are rewards for it being harder, and fun ways to make it harder. I think the best implementation of this I’ve seen is the Heat system in Hades I
I'm a programer myself and my first commercial game I'm releasing is a dungeon crawler since it's my favourite game genre and vault hunters has been a huge inspiration to creating the game so hearing that vault hunters is getting its own game is a dream come true
I'm actually pretty excited to see the update to version. Vault Hunters but with ancient cities and goat horns and all the other missing vanilla features is going to make world exploration that much more interesting.
Talk to Dunkey and see if Big Mode would be interested in publishing the stand-alone game later on... I think it would be cool to see something like a Diablo Dungeon Crawler looter mixed with RogueLite mechanics. Something like Ravenwatch, but better.
I remember during Hermitcraft 7, when you announced that you were developing your own modpack, i was so hyped! It sounded so cool and it truly was amazing. I have been playing every version, every update and have followed the journey of this project since the announcment. And to think that it has come so far that you can announce a own video game is just insane. I know for a fact that im going to love it and play it for hours xD. I'm excited to see where this goes, all the planning is slowly falling into place. especially excited to see how greed works. Personally, being overpowered was never my goal in vault hunters, but I see how that can be fun. I would prefer more opt in challenges, where you can get a reward for taking a skill based risk. I'm not really sure what a stand alone game would look like however. It sounds great as a concept, but there's so many things that are suddenly subject to change that it won't have the same feel unless you intentionally replicate minecraft physics. To me, minecraft is such an inherent part to vault hunters even if you only consider inside the vaults, with the entire block placing system and the way chests are broken, all the little underlying things. making it separate from minecraft gives you a lot of choices, like not even being cube based, but it also somewhat makes it a new, completely different game. The large variety of resources also are less interesting if there's no overworld-esque section to build bases and storage systems in. it's a great idea and would love to see it happen, but it's going to be a lot of work for a lot of people, especially if the work is being split between that, normal modded vh, and vanilla vh. I trust that things will work out eventually though, you have a great team and a committed community behind you.

Y E S ! I am watching the vodskall uploads as RUclips shows them to me, so I am a bit out of order. So as I was writing another comment, I realised something. You are essentially making a full game already. It may take the form of a Minecraft mod pack right now, but let's be real. Vault Hunters already is fully independent of the vanilla game. So these steps, including asking money for it, were an eventuality. And I am all here for it. You and your team have worked so hard for this, created a wonderful game that scratches itches other games honestly cannot reach. So yes. Count me as someone who is planning on buying that eventual founders pack.
Yes becoming over powered is FUN AF!!! Back when i still played Diablo3 i had an absolute blast playing my WitchDoctor with the Haunt/Plague spam build where everything duplicates and jumps to additional mobs when the initial target dies... the spreading doom affects everything and all you have to do is hit 3 buttons and then run through/near mobs and GG everything dies... its so much fun!
WOW! ever i have been a huge fan of vault hunters for ages and just hearing we might get things like the warden or newer minecraft features in vault hunters is amazing, but a whole new game?! i don't care how much it costs (i would pay more then £/$9.99 for it) im so excited on so many levels this could be so amazing... my excitement levels are omega-omega, congrats on all this stuff. And i finally get to experience a game from the day it released and be able to call myself an 'OG' to it. Vault hunters 4th edition and the new game are things i am so excited for. This is my first time hearing or seeing anything about vault hunters, I'm not really a modded minecraft kinda person but I'm extremely intrigued and overwhelmed at the same time and I think I love it😂
I had a similar idea to the infinite ender chest. But my thought would only work with the player that placed it. It also could be used with hoppers to drop items in. But to filter out the item it would need to be crafted with that item.
Everything announced here excites me. Out of the bunch, VH Vanilla edition and fully indie VH are the top two things to me. In particular, a fully indie VH game that is not bound to Minecraft opens a world of possibility in terms of level, weapon, and enemy design because the design is being made from scratch. Enemies in particular came to mind because many seasoned Dylans are all too familiar with the VH team’s woes with Minecraft mob AI when it came to adding any mobs outside of the vanilla spectrum, and a separate game means the team has complete creative control over enemy AI.
I really love the idea of making catalysts craftable. Focused looting is the best in these type of games because it allows you to control which part of the game you want to improve on. This also keeps the game fun and addicting to play because you get the feeling of being better and better each time you do it
Love the idea of taking out the storage as a challenge. VH introduces a ton of new items, and it is a very steep learning curve to organize these items in RS etc. Organizing my items after every vault was actually the thing that made me quit VH at some point. If you integrate a decent option to junk/recycle items then this would be great.
I enjoyed how Vault Hunters provided a purpose for big farms and storage systems you could build in vanilla, I like it as 'Minecraft with Vault Hunters'. But I totally get how if you want to play Vault Hunters (vaults and the RPG elements) then trying to figure out other mods and power and storage systems can be really tedious.
Sold! The vault hunters series with hermitcraft introduced me to the mod, and if you made it independent without all the modding needed, would buy it straight up.
Making vault hunters api independent and releasing a standalone vanilla version of it...that's really boring for videos but that's SO COOL for all the backend side of it! Pumped to hear that announcement!!!

Iskall thanks for the great game. When you launched 3rd edition i thought this wasnt a game for me. Every other update I would try again, since i saw the potential. By Update 10 i was HOOKED. I recomend it to all my friends to play it. Keep it up.
this is very amature of me but i just started "making a game" and i feel so exited to hear that vault hunters or rather iskall's hack and slash game would be independent honestly makes me more motivated to work on my game :)
Very excited! Hack & slash games are some of my favorites, but getting into vault hunters in minecraft is a bit much and there aren't many good ones out there currently
Vault Hunters on Fabric would be game changing for me, I wouldn't have to decide between playing vault hunters and using all of the mods I typically install.
Hey Iskall, Axes need something done with them, and I think I have an idea that may make them more useful because my partner really wants to play like a dwarf with an Axe, have axes add extra jump/leaping distance, like Gimlis ability in LOTR Battle for Middle Earth, not quite mega jump or dash but extra leaping distance that can be used with say stonefall or nova if timed right, axes seem so difficult to make good and different from swords in VH specifically, its probably something thats been considered already, but it seems a waste basically expecting to use the axes to feed the gear melter and nothing more. I get there are bigger fish to fry in game dev right now then making my wacking sticks unique Hope you see this i got my partner hooked and its the most fun he's had playing minecraft in a long time this is a fantastically designed game and I at least will be getting on the stand alone game the second its available thrilled to hear that likely be happening i hope we can help support you and team in future
If you could get vault hunters onto the marketplace (which if FTB can port tinkers construct then I'm positive that you and the amazing team could) then it'd be a huge W. You can even have it interact with other addons regardless of if the VH add-on is standalone or there's only a couple other addons present on the world. From what I've seen the way bedrock is going with addons is great in terms of capabilities.
In agreement with another commenter, can we please please have more information from the devs talking about new updates sir? Just something like a short podcast-format video from the devs explaining the patch notes of each update could be really interesting! I know that you usually explain the new things for each update, but maybe a small discussion from a group could also be entertaining, and may build a community surrounding your dev team even. Your devs, from what we have heard of them have really entertaining personalities and it could work! Maybe have the video on a devs special channel and embedded into the text patch notes on the VH website. That might bring in people from outside the minecraft community to become interested in VH before it becomes its own game (for example ppl from the modded games dev community might know one of ur devs and their fans could come in contact with VH as a non-minecraft motivated VH fan). Just expanding on that thought, if VH is to become its individual game in the future, maybe it will be helpful to have a small non-minecraft centric fanbase of the game to start with and transition it to the larger gaming community? Otherwise VH would just be boosted by VH-motivated Dylans and that might not be enough people for it to be immediately popular? As a fan I want VH to be as successful as it can be lol and I'm not sure if games can increase in popularity after release or if the popularity just goes down with time. An Ender Barrel with infinite space? Sounds like my kind of storage system. I have a major hoarding problem which makes it to where no matter how overkill I make my storage system, I always run out of space...
They have recently added mods to the bedrock PE, so hopefully this will allow you to make it available on bedrock and I would so love to get it. Although you would need to write lots of the mods from my understanding because there isn’t a way to get some of the mods on BE
I'd gladly spend for a bedrock version of vault hunters, I've been a console gamer, and have greatly appreciated the fact that more games are opening themselves to the steam workshop(like fallout, skyrim and ark) so I hope for minecraft to do the same
I would love to be able to play the new game. Ive been wanting to play for ages but I only use a standard laptop and I don’t think it could cope with all the mods. Very pleased to hear it should be easier to play for people like me without good computers
Can anyone explain to me what vault hunters being vanilla in the future means? I've seen some references to features being described as vanilla before. What does vanilla versus modded minecraft mean when both versions include alterations to the original game? Thanks :)
They mean that VH will no longer have other mods attached to it. It all will be merged into a single mod. Storage mods, resource mods and other things won't be separate. Similar to Optifine, you will just install it and done. No forge or fabric required. tho I doubt how performing would it be without the performance mods
if you want to support the modding community, please make vh open source even if you won't accept prs often or at all, seeing source makes it easier to cooperate and see changes before they land to be able to respond to vhmod updates
i was thinking about it today while playing vh, and yeah it really does feel like it should be its own game. like it isn't a mod which exists to enhance minecraft, it's a mod that uses minecraft as a platform to build a completely different game. minecraft even feels like a hinderance to vault hunters. i do wonder how different vh will be when it becomes its own game. is it going to be a survival game outside of the vaults? i do wonder
The end game should have some focus on PVP as well. Wrecking mobs and bosses would get stale eventually but players improve infinitely. So maybe have a PVP vault or something.
Biggest issue I've had with vault hunters is when some unfarmable item comes up in my vault crystal and there's no biome within 30,000 blocks. It's been bloody infurating in a few maps.

Hades is genuinely a fantastic example of how to do difficulty settings. Between Heat and God Mode, you can really customize your experience

Hey Iskall, Axes need something done with them, and I think I have an idea that may make them more useful because my partner really wants to play like a dwarf with an Axe, have axes add extra jump/leaping distance, like Gimlis ability in LOTR Battle for Middle Earth, not quite mega jump or dash but extra leaping distance that can be used with say stonefall or nova if timed right, axes seem so difficult to make good and different from swords in VH specifically, its probably something thats been considered already, but it seems a waste basically expecting to use the axes to feed the gear melter and nothing more. I get there are bigger fish to fry in game dev right now then making my wacking sticks unique
Hope you see this i got my partner hooked and its the most fun he's had playing minecraft in a long time this is a fantastically designed game and I at least will be getting on the stand alone game the second its available thrilled to hear that likely be happening i hope we can help support you and team in future
If you could get vault hunters onto the marketplace (which if FTB can port tinkers construct then I'm positive that you and the amazing team could) then it'd be a huge W. You can even have it interact with other addons regardless of if the VH add-on is standalone or there's only a couple other addons present on the world. From what I've seen the way bedrock is going with addons is great in terms of capabilities.

In agreement with another commenter, can we please please have more information from the devs talking about new updates sir? Just something like a short podcast-format video from the devs explaining the patch notes of each update could be really interesting!
I know that you usually explain the new things for each update, but maybe a small discussion from a group could also be entertaining, and may build a community surrounding your dev team even. Your devs, from what we have heard of them have really entertaining personalities and it could work! Maybe have the video on a devs special channel and embedded into the text patch notes on the VH website. That might bring in people from outside the minecraft community to become interested in VH before it becomes its own game (for example ppl from the modded games dev community might know one of ur devs and their fans could come in contact with VH as a non-minecraft motivated VH fan).
Just expanding on that thought, if VH is to become its individual game in the future, maybe it will be helpful to have a small non-minecraft centric fanbase of the game to start with and transition it to the larger gaming community? Otherwise VH would just be boosted by VH-motivated Dylans and that might not be enough people for it to be immediately popular? As a fan I want VH to be as successful as it can be lol and I'm not sure if games can increase in popularity after release or if the popularity just goes down with time.
Despite all that yapping I'm obviously no professional though and know nothing about these things, just spewing my thoughts.

An Ender Barrel with infinite space? Sounds like my kind of storage system. I have a major hoarding problem which makes it to where no matter how overkill I make my storage system, I always run out of space...

They have recently added mods to the bedrock PE, so hopefully this will allow you to make it available on bedrock and I would so love to get it. Although you would need to write lots of the mods from my understanding because there isn’t a way to get some of the mods on BE
I'd gladly spend for a bedrock version of vault hunters, I've been a console gamer, and have greatly appreciated the fact that more games are opening themselves to the steam workshop(like fallout, skyrim and ark) so I hope for minecraft to do the same

I would love to be able to play the new game. Ive been wanting to play for ages but I only use a standard laptop and I don’t think it could cope with all the mods. Very pleased to hear it should be easier to play for people like me without good computers
Can anyone explain to me what vault hunters being vanilla in the future means?
I've seen some references to features being described as vanilla before. What does vanilla versus modded minecraft mean when both versions include alterations to the original game? Thanks :)
I think the idea is that vanilla vault hunters will not contain other mods.
I'm pretty sure vanilla means you don't need tools like fabric to run the game

They mean that VH will no longer have other mods attached to it. It all will be merged into a single mod. Storage mods, resource mods and other things won't be separate. Similar to Optifine, you will just install it and done. No forge or fabric required. tho I doubt how performing would it be without the performance mods

Vault hunters is one of the few mods packs where you could play without mods since it’s the only Minecraft items.

if you want to support the modding community, please make vh open source
even if you won't accept prs often or at all, seeing source makes it easier to cooperate and see changes before they land to be able to respond to vhmod updates
i was thinking about it today while playing vh, and yeah it really does feel like it should be its own game. like it isn't a mod which exists to enhance minecraft, it's a mod that uses minecraft as a platform to build a completely different game. minecraft even feels like a hinderance to vault hunters. i do wonder how different vh will be when it becomes its own game. is it going to be a survival game outside of the vaults? i do wonder

The end game should have some focus on PVP as well. Wrecking mobs and bosses would get stale eventually but players improve infinitely. So maybe have a PVP vault or something.
Biggest issue I've had with vault hunters is when some unfarmable item comes up in my vault crystal and there's no biome within 30,000 blocks. It's been bloody infurating in a few maps.

Most indie games sell for somewhere between 7.99 and 24.99, if they make it 40/50 dollars they will scare the player base and not sell
