Planning Ahead For Autumn Colour With Winter Pansies 🌸🌸🌸

- Well I know we don’t want to think about this, but it’s only a couple of months before our annual flowers will have faded, and if we want to have all-round colour and interest in our gardens going forward, then what better way of doing that than by adding Winter Pansies.
Last October I planted some beautiful orange Winter Pansies and I was so impressed with them because they flowered from October right round until May and I promised myself that I’d plant lots more this Autumn.
So I have 3 packets of 100 Winter Pansies to sow from seed now, and I realise that’s an awful lot of seeds, but if they all germinate and grow into plants then I plan on giving lots to my Mum and other friends so I can help brighten up their gardens too.
I’ve never sown Winter Pansies from seed before, but I’m ready to try anything and so here goes!

Winter pansies Janette? Very envy of your warm zone 9 garden in the UK. Our winters are so cold that very few plants survive let alone flowers. 🌸🤩🌸
Oh really Tracy? What zone are you in? I am equivalent to a US zone 8 I believe but it never gets particularly hot here in the summer (most of the time) anything above 75 is unusual, nor does it get that cold. We get quite a lot of rain all year round, summer and winter. 😍
Thanks for keeping us thinking ahead!!
I love Lottie...
Well I hope all my seeds germinate 🤪 Lotte is a little darling, Lucy too, but she’s always asleep 😂
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener I love Lucy, too, but Lottie is in it...committed...LOL
Hahaha yes, you are right 😂😂
It's will be gives the vibrant looks in the garden 🍀🌳🌳❤️
Hello Sahab and thank you so much for watching 😍
I've never tried them from seed, think I'll give it a try! Thanks for the idea. I loved when hubby made an appearance. lol
They’re still going but are VERY slow doing anything yet. I’ve never grown pansy seeds so not sure if that’s normal but I will have to be patient 😊
Marvellous!!
Thank you so much!
look at all the flowers in your garden, so colourful.. =)
Hello there Yes, I’ve tried to plant lots of colour this year. Hope you’re doing well and have a great weekend 😍
This older video just popped up in my feed. Come next fall, I am definitely going to sow some pansies (and violas, my favorite fall flower) as well as some ornamental cabbage. Thanks for the inspiration! Now to hunt for the follow up video… 💚
Hello my friend! This one is a blast from the past 😆 but those pansies did grow but they took an incredibly long time 😆😆🎄🎶❤️
Yes a really good idea Janette, to forward plan. Pansies are a winter miracle, they just keep giving and giving. Great to see your flowers behind you, still giving a lovely show : )
Thanks Penny, I hope they germinate. My annuals are beginning to struggle in the other planters unfortunately, but that’s life in the garden isn’t it? Nothing lasts forever, but then we wouldn’t want it to look the same all year round, it would just get boring. I’m looking forward to seeing your garden soon 😉😍
Janette, good thinking ahead.
Happy Germinating!
Hello my lovely and thank you 😍😍😍
I've never done Pansies from seeds. I hope it works out for you. I always pick up beautiful yellow transplants in the fall and they last all the way till it's time to put in annuals. Thanks for sharing Janette.
I haven’t either so I hope they germinate. Have a happy Sunday 😍
Wow seed planting on an industrial scale😀go for it girl. You are an inspiration 😍
Hello there Avril 🤣🤣 I suppose it’s being a Gemini, I always want to double up on everything 🤣🤣🥰
Wow dear extremely professional 👌👌👌
Thank you Tanu, hoping for lots of colour this autumn and winter 🥶😍
What an excellent idea, I’m definitely trying this Janette 💕 so after my morning cup of tea 🫖 I’ll be off to Wilco’s to get some seeds 🪴🌺🪴
Excellent!!!! Do let me know how you get on 🥰
Hi Janette thank you for the video. I will be buying some winter pansy seeds this weekend to sow. Great idea for some cheerful colours in the winter garden 😊x
Oh good Lou, we should both have colourful winter gardens 🥶 ❄️ this year with a bit of luck. Do let me know how yours get on 😍
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener ☺👍
If all of those germinate I can see you setting up a stall in Covent Garden 🤣 I love Pansies and Violas they last soooo long and really do brighten up your winter garden. I see you are getting a sun tan and without coming to Spain 🤣
I’ve never sown them before so I hope it works. Yes I am getting my skin acclimatised before my trip to Spain 🇪🇸😃😍😚

Ooh Adra I really like the sound of those!! 🐜🐜🐜😊
Beautiful video as always, I love winter pansies, they bring loads of cheerful colours to brighten the darker months. Xx
Thank you Maggie, I agree, we need to brighten up the darker days ❄️😍
Such a lovely idea!!
Thanks Daisy, all being well I should have colour in the winter ❄️
Hello Janette and Richard
You've still got the seed bug i see. Making the tea is a great necessity Richard☕☕
Hello lovely Sharon, well I have to make use of all those self watering trays and the lovely growlights Richard made for me!! So we shall see what happens 🤞 have a fabulous weekend 😍
Yes I'm I really lucky here in Sydney Australia we have such mild winters I've always done well with Pansies
Hello Margarita, I hope you’re enjoying your summertime over there ☀️ I’ve only just planted out those winter pansies (yesterday’s video), they took so long to grow (the video you’ve commented on is from August) but I’m hoping they’ll do well for me come Spring. Thanks so much for watching and commenting 😍
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener yes I was looking for an update video
We've had a mild summer so far the hottest it's been is 35 degrees when usually we will hit 40s and very wet which is good for my grass
Love watching your videos and your beautiful garden
Oh thank you so much Margarita, it’s a very small world these days isn’t it, that we can be in touch in an instant with friends on the other side of the world, amazing 🤩
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener that's the part of technology that I love!!!!
I love pansies. Wonder if this would work for me in my growing zone. I think I will have to test it out.
What zone are you Monica?
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener I’m in zone 6b.
Well I think you will be ok ✅
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener All I have to lose is a packet of seeds ;)
Absolutely!!
Great video Janette. Love the opening with you and Lottie. Such a sweet girl she is.❤
Ah thank you Adra, yes she is so lovely. Lucy is a little darling too but she is always asleep 🤣
Always a relief when you get a big job like that done .... with all of those seeds at least you will have enough for your garden .... I live in central Ohio ... I am thinking that we are in a zone 6 and I bought my Pansy in the fall..... Last year and maybe also the year before and they have lasted all year ... and I may not have to replace them we'll see .... Of course I did lose a couple ... maybe because of where I planted them and not enough water .... However what I am trying to say is they really are tough little plants .... Hugs
Hello Shirlene all the way in Ohio 👋 Pansies are just so lovely aren’t they, I hope mine germinate, we shall see!! Thank you so much for watching 😍
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener ..... Oh I am sure they will ..... Hugs
White love it
Hello there and thank you so much for watching 😍
🌱🌿🌺DIDN’T KNOW IT HAD TO BE DARK TO GERMINATE‼️🌺🌿🌱THANK YOU🌺🌿🌱
Ooh yes they like it in the dark, but the moment they sprout they need the light, so you have to check them every day. However … not sure what to do if some sprout and others don’t 🤔 that’s a bit of a dilemma 🤪
I tried the the ornamental cabbage last year ...it did not do well and just went rotten!!
Well the first year I planted some they were incredible and lasted all winter, but the second time they didn’t do so well. I will probably try again this autumn because they do look so beautiful and colourful. Funny how things differ from year to year. But I hope you’re having a great week ♥️
Janette please Let Monty Don Garden World BBC to view your beautiful garden. His team do go out and film beautiful gardens, i regularly see his programmes on yesterday's episode i thought of you for you to get in touch and display to all English garden enthusiast👊
Ah thanks Pinakin, I love Monty and GW but I think they get thousands of videos all the time. But maybe I should send one in and who knows? It might get picked 😍
The world 🌎also

Thank you as always 😍
