My favorite witch house is the Victorian house from Practical magic, is so lovely and cozy I love it.
couldn't agree more!
The kitchen is AMAZING. I know of someone who redid her kitchen to look like the Outlander kitchen, and some year I’ll own a large enough kitchen to redo my own kitchen to look like it.
Mine, too❤
Absolutely. I mean, how many of us have daydreamed about toiling away in that incredible apothecary room ?@ ::sigh::🥰🌿
The Hocus Pocus house was built as a set in San Juan ISLAND state park which is in the Puget Sound (northwest of Seattle). I’ve camped there several times and it’s a wonderful place! They removed the house after filming so don’t go expecting to see it.
Howl’s Moving Castle is somewhat modeled after the traditional Slavic Baba Yaga home, which is elevated upon chicken legs. Baba Yaga is a witch that lives deep in the forest, according to lore.
She also has the role of helping young women come of age by providing a grueling but cozy respite from patriarchal pressure, which is fascinating because that's what Sophie does for herself
I would have liked to see the house from Charmed, in San Francisco too. Actually, the house across the street too! I know the interior was a set, but I’d love to know more about the style of the house.
I love that house! It’s Stick style and I might do a video on that style in the future
@@kendragaylord that would be great! I’ve tried to find out more without any luck.
The original pilot (sans Alyssa Milano / With Lori Rom) was filmed inside the house. It's included in the season 1 DVD set.
@@kendragaylord I'd love to watch a video about that house too! My favourite witchy films/TV are Charmed and Practical Magic. There's also the house in the original 90s Sabrina the Teenage witch which was fun and light-hearted rather than the darker remake.
AHS coven house is also very fun. White exterior and interiors with accents of black or dark browns and a green house in the back! The green house room in practical magic though is my favorite ❤
just a quick comment - in Practical Magic, it wasn't the mother who cast the spell against falling in love, it was Sally (Sandra Bullock's character, played by Camilla Belle) as the curse was all the Owens women would lose the men they loved
The Practical Magic house is beautiful, and the Charmed house definitely deserves to rank on this list. Great job!
Practical magic house always, but I do like the Lovecraft country house.
if the practical magic house was still standing and i could visit it, it would be my #1!
@@kendragaylordif it was still standing I buy it.😊
PRACTICAL MAGIC OMGGGGGGGGG dream house, planet , world. ALSO Sabrinas house was insanely awesome too
“Mansard roof… more than just a Vampire Weekend song “ 👌😂 it plays in my head every time
Charmed house and witches of east end house are pretty amazing as well
I loved Sabrina the Teenage Witch because it was on TV during my teenage years when I became interested in witchcraft. The house and the show made me feel like it was normal and not going to send me to hell - even though it was a bit campy overall, the house was beautiful.
I loved that show so much and the house too. I didn't include it because it's such a set, but I am really considering a part 2 of this video
Yes to part 2!
I'm so glad you included Howl's Moving Castle. I love the book and the castle is an active character in the story, and demonstrates Howl's power as a wizard. The animated movie really went to town with the chicken legs and multiple buildings all crammed together, like it's trying to disguise itself as a house but goes overboard.
I am personally affronted by your omission of the Innes house featured in Charmed
I love Halliwell family house, it's cute and beautiful.
I’m so glad that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina got some recognition here .🖤 it’s creators paid so much attention to detail and it was really cool to learn that the inspiration for the house is another layer in itself.
Very interesting! You left out the Halliwell House from Charmed. :)
I guess this was only witch and wizard houses, but I love the Beetlejuice house. So creepy, so campy, so good. Actually you should do a video on the best creepy camp horror houses - the Rocky Horror house spings to mind, Edward Scissorhands and of course the Addams Family houses. Would Jack's house in Halloweentown count? I guess I made up this category of house, so I say yes 😅 Wayne Manor in the Burton Batman movies would be a goodie. This is basically just a list of Tim Burton movies, isn't it 🫤😅
I love Practical Magic & the house!
You could do a part two and include the house from Charmed and the house from American Horror Story Coven. Those are my favorite witch houses!
ooh, I loved Stardust
a thing I loved with Howl's moving castle is that it's likely based on legends about Baba Yaga in Russian folklore, having a house walking on chicken legs
Thats amazing! I love how much there was to look at in Howls Moving Castle. So easy to lose yourself in the visuals
@@kendragaylord It really is a lovely thing, one of my favorites
- it is interesting that Russian legend about the walking house went to Japan - the countries are close geographically but not culturally
Surprised not to see the charmed house. I also love the witches of east end also has a great witch house
The way I screamed when I saw The Witches of Eastwick. Such an underrated movie! I have always loved Eastwick.
Not ONLY is this list a fantastic idea but of all the stupid internet searches I’ve done some of these have never come up! Excited to watch these.
So glad you mentioned chilling adventures! The house is so cool and spooky looking, so fitting for the spellmans. Also I love that there’s a morgue. Dark
practical magic is the best.
nothing beats it. 🖤
Damn I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Charmed house!
The mansion is great, but i was hoping you would use the house from witches of Eastwick that Cher's character lived in,that was a fun weird little house! I think my favourite aspect of an ideal witches house is the universe inside an impossibly small space.
The Spellman house is the best. I love House of the Seven Gables so much. I tour it every time I’m in Salem.
Its such an amazing place. I toured it for my podcast Someone Lived Here and it was such a special visit
Also the house from Witches of East End - sometimes I watch that show just for the interiors.
I just found this channel. God I love this. Seeing all of these gorgeous witchy homes and sets analyzed was great. If I ever had a lot of money my dream would be to restore a Victorian era home. Also, I was expecting the house from American Horror story Coven to be in this, but maybe another time. 😉
there are so many amazing witch houses! It was so cool to find your video, I though this was a very niche and specific topic, so I'm SO GLAD there's more people interested in witch houses!!! I would've loved to see Sabrina TTW's amazing house as well. She had my dream bedroom while growing up ♥ keep up the good work, I suscribed!!!
I'm so glad you liked it! I love the Sabrina the Teenage Witch house, but didn't include because there was so little footage of the outside. Its a favorite though
You forgot the house in the Elvira movie, which is also really interesting. I was obsessed with that movie when I was younger, until Practical Magic came out.
I haven't seen the Love Witch, but the style of the house reminds me of the house/apartment from the Mary Tyler Moore show! Maybe a nod to it since the aesthetic of the movie reflects that era? I'm not sure what style that house is, but seems similar to Queen Anne. It has the tower and the detailed overhang I think?
Thanks for including Howl's Moving Castle! That redecoration scene is AMAZING.
Just looked up the Mary Tyler Moore Show house and you're totally right, thats a Queen Anne!
This is such a great list! I need to rewatch practical magic immediately. I also love the house from the original Sabrina tv show, her bedroom is a dream
If i can, I'd love to mention the Pink Palace from Coraline! I know it's another animated house, but beyond it being part of the plot, it's adds SO MUCH to the feel of the story and the Other Mother uses it to such a great advantage (although depending on how you read it, I suppose there's an argument that the house gets its revenge ;;.)
My favorite witch house will always be the one from Practical Magic 🥰
Oh my god, i think i watched Eve's Bayou as a kid and completely forgot about it until now... one of those moments when you rediscover something so pivotal that you've never consciously considered before! Plus she's in Lovecraft Country as an adult???
This video is great! So many of these films are comfort movies in my opinion because of the witchy homes- so interesting and full of secrets, and tells a great story through architecture.
I think some other witch homes we should visit are…
The Wicked Witch’s Castle from the Wizard of Oz (1939) It’s a very art-deco inspired medieval castle with militaristic influences and is the most iconic witch abode in film to date!
The Pink Palace Apartments from Coraline (2009) A beautiful Victorian built in the woods of Oregon, and has a whimsical parallel version in the movie’s “other” dimension.
Miss Robichaux’s Academy from American Horror Story Coven (2010) An antebellum mansion in New Orleans, that can be visited today!
There are so many more magical homes in movies and entertainment that should be appreciated, and I hope you can review more!!!
The Castle in the Wizard of Oz is such a great one. Can't believe I didnt think of it. I'll have to rewatch Coraline soon. I almost included the AHS Coven since I am still afraid of the railing outside after watching that season.
So good - I love witch houses! You could also look at the hotel in Witches (1990) and the apartment building in Rosemary's Baby.
Just wanted to say that Castle Hill is done in the Georgian Revival style and that the interiors are true to that. Even the library was salvaged from estates in England. So the interiors of the mansion scene for Witches of Eastwick were not filmed in the house itself, as that is not the style that is depicted in the clips you showed. If they didn’t use a studio, maybe they could have used a nearby property in Newport-nearby to the RI filming location, about two hours south of Castle Hill.
Such a fun video! My favorites on the list are the Practical Magic house (of course). And the real house used in Love Witch. I’ve see that house in person in Arcata California. We got turned around on a vacation there with friends and ended up lost on the road this gorgeous Queen Anne style house sits on. I realized we weren’t lost - we needed to see this house. I don’t remember the name of it but there is another beautiful Queen Anne house across the street from it too.
Now I’ll have to watch Eve’s Bayou, and Love Witch the two I’ve not seen yet.
3:54 I've seen pictures of this house and wondered soo much about it... it may just be my most favorite facade of a house ever.
I know it's not a witch house but the house on Beetle Juice would've been great for this list. It's a character in the movie and it changes so much with the events of the movie.
The type of content that makes my wintery Sunday afternoon even more cosy. THANK YOU!
This was so Awesome, thanks for the content Kendra!
Awesome I loved this!
Amazing video!! Just found your channel and love it!
Good list ! It's not a movie, but I always liked the Good Witch house ! ✨
That house is beautiful love the stone exterior
It started out as a made for tv movie series before becoming tv...
I’m obsessed with your content. We love the same things. And you’re so thoughtful. Subscribed!
Thank you -- that was awesome! Best wishes. 😁
This is so great, thank you for doing this!
A Movie called: "Witch Way Love" - French and American, 1997 - featuring Vanessa Paradis, Johnny Depp's ex wife. Her House is a French Castle in the Region "Pyrenée / Pays Basque", close to Spain. The real name of the castle is "Chateau Abadia Observatoire" It is AMAZING!! And also the haunted witche's cottage from the TV Show "A discovery of witches"!
loved this!
just discovered your channel through the automat essay, and i love this video! i would love to hear your take on the 90s sabrina house, which is definitely one of my favorite witch houses (after practical magic)! thanks for inviting us in!
Speaking of old Victorian houses, I would love to see a video about the house from The Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black and Tony Diterlizzi
Thank you for this list!
Thanks so much for watching!
Great video 👍. The house of the seven gables is definitely my favorite.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO THANKS FOR THIS I WAS HOPING TO SEE THE CHARMED ONES HOUSE ON THE LIST WILL THERE BE A PART 2?
I just went to Pioneer Village for the first time about a month ago for the Salem Night Faire and I finally saw the Sanderson house! They put red lights inside so it was really spooky and it was amazing!
Great list! The Practical Magic is definitely my favourite, and I remember finding the floor plans for it many years ago, saving them, and dreaming of building my own similar house in the future, haha.
You should check out the german movie The Little Witch from 2018, her house (and the movie) is amazing and cute
I think the Jaguar house from Brand New Cherry Flavour would be a good choice for the next list of witch houses. The greenhouse is so atmospheric.
Suddenly the house in Beetlejuice makes sense. Not a classic witch movie, but the look of the house, the way the new owners change it - they must have been consciously playing with this trope.
I've been a little obsessed with the Practical Magic house since I was a very small child. I also have a soft spot for the attic in the Charmed house.
I liked howls moving castle, it was more magical than other movies, that are just fancy houses. I do like a good queen anne house though. You should look at the pushing daisies house.
I live in Coweta county where the Second Empire (#1 house) is located. I pass by it often and have always been fascinated by it. The house was also featured in The Odd Life of Timothy Green and The House with a Clock in Its Walls.
My list would be, in no particular order;
Practical magic
Witches of east end
Charmed
Mayfair
The burrow
Sabrina, chilling adventures
Sabrina the teenage witch
The craft - Sarah's house
The good witch -gray house
Hocus pocus
Yours and my witches house top ten list is definitely the same pretty much identical
I wrote a comment before but it seems to have been deleted for some reason. But my favourites are the house in Practical Magic, the Charmed house and also the house in Good Witch. All are very cosy and feel protective rather than dark and scary.
What about the Weasley’s house in HP? Mrs Weasley is a witch so I think it qualifies… 😁
I live in Newnan near that house! So cool
The Creel house in Stranger Things is a real house, and they filmed both inside and outside of it too.*edit* I didn't realize you also made a video about that particular house! It's a beauty!
Also, I tried to find the one from Practical Magic too and was very sad to find it had not been a real house. Barbara Streisand should have used her bazillions of dollars to have one made like it!
Practical magic has always been one of my favorite houses!
Just found your channel your voice is magical 🪄😌
Please talk about the Dark Shadows house! The huge house with secret doors existing in the 70s. That house is fascinating and a character itself in that movie
Love 💕
my favorite witch house is the house in house (1977). just like howl's moving castle, the house is such a character that the movie is named after it. it's a creepy half-victorian half-traditional japanese style house and the two styles blend in a way that is absolutely fascinating.
I would love to see you do a video on ranking the best horror movie houses! Or what you think makes for the best horror movie/spooky house. I would also accept hotels in this ranking *ahem* The Shining *ahem*.
13:33 BE STILL MY HEART! I didn't know they tore down the house! That should've been illegal! If only!! But they did an absolutely amazing job inside and outside and my heart is broken 💔 😢 knowing it's gone. I was sad when they cancelled the show. It was cute and fun!
The beautiful creatures house wouldve been a great addition to the list as well as the charmed house and maybe the house in the craft.
Ah. I was hoping to see the Practical Magic house. I want to live there
There is now a Lego Hocus Pocus House and it looks amazing
If you look closely at the early panning shot of the house in Practical Magic, I believe you can see the ruins of the original ancestor, Maria Owen’s, house that she built when she was banished to the island (the original framing you can see in the flashback scene when she’s seen sobbing and pregnant). What do you think?!
Crystal Castles pioneered the witch house genre!
Some other good ones are the houses in double double toil and trouble American Horror Story Coven Charmed and the Sabrina series with Melissa Joan Heart
Without doing any research, I'm guessing the Lovecraft Country house is also the house used in Season 4 of Stranger Things.
I know why you didn't include it but I personally love the house from Bewitched. Not all that witchy but so perfectly 1960s.
Movie Wild Witch. Check out witch aunts house 27:20.
G-d if I ever won the lottery I'd get myself a love witch queen anne house ;0; its so beautiful and I've always wanted a porch!
I just found your channel! My name is Kendra to!
Missed Crimson Peak!
Even though the houses from 'Love Witch' and 'Eve's Bayou' (Love the balconnees) easily score some points with me they are a bit on the (too) big side for me to want to live in.
My number one pick would be the house from 'Practical Magic', looks great, and a bit more perfect size wise. (And I love me a house with a tower).
Honoray mentions for 'Sabrina' and 'Lovecraft Country'.
Have you ever seen The Butchers Wife (1991)? A beautifully blond Demi Moore plays a clairvoyant... so not exactly a witch but I love that movie. It also has an interesting set.
Also, The Ghost Whisperer (2005) with Jennifer Love Hewitt has some beautiful sets and costume design. She not a witch but a medium but I do think anyone who loves witch movies will love these too.
What about the halliwell manor?
Oh No!
You forgot the castle of the Witch of the West from the classic Wizard of Oz movie.
Towers, embattled walls, and a crystal ball that would weigh tons. (If it wasn’t hollow to allow a mirror and a projector to do the in camera special effects)
I can't remember any movie witch houses although I'm sure there's some (does Beetlejuice count?) but I love the mansions in the Haunting of Hill House and Locke & Key shows although I guess those aren't necessarily witchy.
Love Witch looks almost like a Giallo movie.
I'll let the fact Baba Yaga's not here go bc of Howl's castle, on a technicality.
interesting ! (from france :))
Are we getting a Part Two this year? Surely there are some other spooks houses you can rank🧙♀️👻🎃💀
What about Samantha Steven's house in Bewitched?
Gretel and Hansel, best witch house bar none!
I feel like the house in Coraline could count too
