    I love your overall definition of fascism as humanity’s’ worst traits distilled into a sick and insane ideology. As something I’ve studied a little bit myself in college, my impression of the way fascism is defined is either that it’s too specific or it’s too general. To add on to how you define fascism I’d also add that it is a totalitarian statist ideology/movement where government and the fetishized in-group of people (regardless if it is based on religion, race, ethnicity, or nationality) is one in the same thing and has the goal of returning to or creating a mythologized golden age.
    In terms of fascist regimes committing genocide against groups of people labeled as ‘undesirables’ I find it disturbingly ironic that fascists tend to see themselves as the ultimate superior group and yet at the same time seem themselves as the victims of conspiracy or oppression from ‘inferior undesirables’ when it is of course the fascists themselves doing these things. Another contradiction of fascism I find interesting is that despite being viciously xenophobic and isolationist, fascism is also monstrously imperialistic.

    With you putting in terms of fascism being both a Western problem and as something that comes from humanity’s worst traits of love for violence, tyranny, and tribalism, I wonder if you think if fascism can only appear in the West or the Global North, or if it's a phenomenon where anyone can be fascist? Does fascism have to be only in relation to an insane and poisonous view of what the West should be, can it be applied with any identity group?

    Ok, I'll bite, not that I'm a fascist but as someone who'se studied this in-depth it's a little bit absurd.
    Now, I know you made this video entirely to signal your political position and alignment. That being said, in your comments, you consistently call for substance, so here it is.
    Firstly, fascism doesn't embrace war as war, rather, it embraces war as an act of darwinian struggle. Fascism in most of its forms, believes in the perfection of man through struggle and through the direction of will. Racialist fascism tends to accentuate more the genetic aspects of this, something like Mussolini's regime has a spiritual conception of will.
    Secondly, fascism doesn't reject reason. Gentileanism, as in the philosophical basis of Mussolini's regime, was actually relatively rational when followed from its basis, it saw a solution to the problem of class war through uniting all the classes via the nation. In this sense, it was corporatist, it believed in creating a kind of "political body". I'd be curious to hear where you get this idea that fascism is a rejection of reason from.
    As for your claim that fascism doesn't love the enlightenment, this is somewhat true. However, the observation that the enlightenment has failed to find a rational basis for moral systems isn't a unique one (see for example, Alexander MacIntyre's After Virtue). The destruction of the Aristotelean conception of the world was essentially followed by a legacy of failure. Fascism is a kind of "revolution of reaction". It seeks to recenter man. As with a rejection of democracy, same with the enlightenment, these are value judgements, but they're neither primitive or savage. Otherwise you'd have to reject Hobbes and his conception of man as primitive and savage. Same with Aristotle. Even Plato, Polybius, and countless other figures who have in the past rejected democracy. Who have commented on the necessity of faith.
    Your criticisms are shallow. I hope in trying to respond to me you expound your views.

    But is this video completely misleading about it? Also, yes.
    You didn't give out your sources, didn't even define fascism as an ideology. All you said was its characteristic of absolute obedience while it is true but it is not the core of its ideology.
    This is more of a ranting video than a definition about fascism.

    • @bigjim199

      I spoke about the characteristics of fascism. Colloquial and academic definitions almost universally share the characteristics described here.

    • @HeathThen
      @HeathThen Месяц назад +1

      @@bigjim199 All ideologies started with their core definitions, then characteristics. Pointing out some characteristics of an ideology to say it was bad is misleading.
      Fascism is bad because it is an excessive nationalist movement. Under fascism, the nation's (or the single party that rules that nation) well-being is the top priority while individuals are meaningless without the nation. In other words, all human rights are suppressed for "the well-being of the nation". (Free Inquiry from Council for Secular Humanism)
      Those characteristics you mentioned like racism, absolute obedience, sexism,etc are characteristics of this ideology, being born from the core definitions.
      Why racism? Because antagonizing other races from other countries make it easier for the people to commit atrocities against them and allow the nation to expand on them.
      Why absolute obedience? Because individuals' desire and wishes are nothing compared to the well-being of the nation (or what the government said).

    • @bigjim199
      @bigjim199  Месяц назад

      @@HeathThen I did not just mention sexism, racism, and absolute obedience. At the very start of the video I said that the primary characteristics are authoritarianism, collectivism, and tribalism. Tribalism and collectivism are alternative words for the nationalism that you describe.

    • @HeathThen
      @HeathThen Месяц назад +1

      @@bigjim199since when was tribalism and collectivism another word for nationalism?
      Tribalism has its definition since 3000 BC while nationalism was only invented by the American and French revolution. Those are completely different ideas. They may have something similar but they are different ideology. (I can't point them out in a comment since those are ideologies and such are very long but no way they are the same)
      My gosh, so the video is misleading because you are misled?
      First, you give out wrong definition.
      Second, you list the characteristics only and rant about how bad those characteristics are instead of showing why the ideology itself is bad.
      That's why I said this was a rant video. If the tribalism thing is the "definition" in your opinion, then you only have 1 sentence about the definition without going deep about the ideology while your rant about its characteristics are a lot.
      I am not defending fascism (obviously) but this is bad argument about it.

    • @bigjim199
      @bigjim199  Месяц назад

      @@HeathThen Nationalism is notoriously difficult to define. There is a huge academic debate about the definition of "nation". However, "nationalism" as used with reference to fascism almost always describes tribalism and collectivism. I have spoken to countless self-proclaimed fascists and far-right people about this and they themselves use nationalism and tribalism almost interchangeably (with historical tribalism being used to argue that nationalism is inevitable and is therefore an eternal political reality).
      How can you show how an ideology is bad without showing how its characteristics are bad? How the hell does that work?
