Thank you so much l started sewing today l also showed my 7 yr old grandson have a go on some stitch’s my first time buy this easy sewing machine thank you Sir 😊
Thanks for posting this! I bought this model several years ago, and can't find the manual. I'm not much of a seamstress :-) I appreciate your help! Trying to find out how to oil it.
Do you think this machine can handle sewing canvas and leather? I realize it is not Heavy Duty, but look like what your testing with is pretty thick. Looks like a good starter machine to learn
Almost any machine is capable with heavier needles . 90/14 is standard so 100/16 or 110/18 leather needles : Then always help the machine get started in the first punch by hand wheel input . This machine wasn't built for that and really older straight stitchers work better but in a pinch and use your common sense . Occasionally , you can get by if it's not in constant use as an industrial machine .
I just brought one like this machine and found out the back needle lowering handle doesn’t latch. Is it broken? How to lower the needle if I can’t fix the issue? Hope someone answers me please. Thanks.
Hi there! Thanks for the video. I wonder if you've had timing issues with this machine and how were you able to fix it? I can't seem to find any in RUclips for this model. :(
This can't be explained in the length of this comment section . Do you have the tension adjusted properly first ? I may have to do a video on timing , later . John
Rosa , Thank you for asking . That is a very good question that a lot of people will benefit from knowing the answer to . I will eventually post a video so Like , Share , Comment and Subscribe so you don't miss it when I find time . Maybe around Christmas , haha . I think there's some bell or something for notifications . I'd start at the top . Top Tension should be between 3-4 then adjust Bottom to match that . It'll end up a lot looser than you think . Can you send me a photo of the problem area ? I don't have this model anymore so I can't look at its innards to properly explain how to go about adjusting it . Thanks I'm looking forward to it . John
Hi I have the same model and i could not find and video to show how to ajust the needle bar since mine is not in correct spot and i have issue with the hight of the needle bar This machine got 3 mark line on the top of the needle bar instead of the bottom and could not found a video to show correct hight of my needle bar can u please do me a favor rise the needle bar till you see the first marked line come out of the top bushing and measure the hight from the top of the machin to where it hold the needle in mm thanks in advance
Depends how heavy the material and what type of fabric . But for a standard needle , start with 90/14 . There are ball point for Denim and Stretch stitch for polyesters and nylon . ( Stretchy materials ) .
Only use sewing machine oil . Oil everything that moves or rubs together inside . Minus the electric motor stay away from that . Most oil spots will have a hole just for the oiler . I really like to use a special oiler that has a retractable fine brass oiler Tube to get in all those tight spaces . I may soon do a video where I show how to clean, oil and adjust the machine Thanks John
You needed to demonstrate exactly how to thread the machine esp by the little disc on top. Camera needed to move in closer while you thread it. Not just say thru here and here.
Most sewing, overlock, quilters, embroidery, and those types of machines use 90-110 Watts . I no longer have this exact model but if you do , it'll be specified on the rear of the motor itself .
You need the smaller oval shaped 66 class bobbins . I prefer the metal ones . www.ebay.com/i/191943749394?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-213727-13078-0&mkcid=2&itemid=191943749394&targetid=4580977766998737&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=&poi=&campaignid=403206332&mkgroupid=1238050308110012&rlsatarget=pla-4580977766998737&abcId=9300372&merchantid=51291&msclkid=b8547e421ba312581bf821117836a1f8 hope this helps
I have this same model and the bobbin thread is not getting picked up. I hate to spend money if it's an easy fix. any advice? I've taken it a part from the bottom and the plates are removed .
Could be the timing . Not something I could easily explain . Or something as simple as the flat slide of needle is facing the wrong direction ( thus the top is threaded in wrong direction . ) Please consult your manual if you have one . Download it from internet if not .
I've notice this model doesn't have a presser foot tension like my old besty Stylus 513... any idea how I can adjust the pressure on the foot. Fabric is sliding ?
If memory serves me you have to remove the left lower cover to get to it . But , yes there is an adjustment for presser foot tension under that cover . ( One screw usually is all that holds that on , you'll figure it out . ) Thanks John

Great Simple first machine .

My husband just got me this model. Thank you, for posting this video; it was helpful :)
I have same model just didn’t know much about it until today bought mine A few weeks ago
I can hardly believe this video has 25,000 views . So many more than any of the others . Perhaps it's because it's a Singer that's very popular .

Everything you explained is literally on the 10th and 11th page of the manual.

Is it skipping ( dropping ) Stitches on it's Zig Zag setting ?
Great video on the singer 2517. I need help with the tension. How do you adjust the tension. The bottom thread is too loose.

Hi there w
Which nummer of needles can I buy
90/14 are standard size , but you can also go smaller 80/12 . Or bigger 100/16 and even 110/18 but I don't think any bigger . Thanks John
What needle should I use because the one I have now does not work good?

Uhm, what's the wattage of that model? I'm searching for it but I can't find any info about it. I hope you can answer my question. Thank youu!!

I CANNOT get the bobbin case into the machine.

I think I have the same issue, I tried doing it on my T-shirt I have a feeling that this machine does not work T-shirt or clothes or am I wrong?
Sewing T-shirts is nearly impossible for any machine .
You sure? I seen ppl do it on youtube and a tailor store.
I'll try it again with smaller stretch or cotton needles and lighter pressure foot and tension settings . A lot lighter .
I've notice this model doesn't have a presser foot tension like my old besty Stylus 513... any idea how I can adjust the pressure on the foot. Fabric is sliding ?

Left side of machine and on upper body , not down by the needle plate .
I need some help... I got this model from a friend & I can’t figure out how to thread it!
Not my video but I found it for you :
