Europe's BEST REGIONAL airline? FLY BMI Embraer from Bristol, UK to Paris CDG France flight review

- #### 16/02/2019; British Midland Regional Limited, the East Midlands-based airline which operates as flybmi, has today announced that it has ceased operations and is filing for administration ####
bmi regional is certainly not the largest airline in Europe but since 2012, the airline has managed to re-structure its network, identify routes meeting needs from the local business communities and expand its activities to more than 35 destinations across Europe. I really enjoyed the "all inclusive" approach of this airline so no nasty surprise when it comes to the total price
Bristol is a major base for bmi regional (also known as flybmi.com since Dec 2017) with routes to Aberdeen, Brussels, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Milan (Malpensa), Munich and Paris (CDG). I believe that at the time of publishing this video is the first flight review for this airline on the BRS to CDG route.
Its fleet only consists on Embraer regional jets (ERJ-135 and 145) enabling to fill a gap in a market left by the large legacy airlines and low cost carriers. Aircraft for this flight is G-RJXB
bmi regional is not part of any alliance but has partnerships code share agreements (with Lufthansa and Brussels Airlines).

Rest in peace flybmi.
A very sad end for BMI
I've ridden on many ERJ145's. Not my favorite airplane, but the single seat is nice when traveling alone. All of the United Express EWR145's have 50 seats, and the front seat is right across from the forward galley. You get the back row with a nice view of the engine, but you said it wasn't that loud. Its nice that BMI offers snack and complimentary soda's, juices. Nice video, well edited!
Thanks :-). Really glad you enjoyed it
I have 2 other trips planned on regional jets (one to London City airport - I really hope the weather will be good. This should offer a stunning landing)
Nice job and overview of this regional airline and the Bristol Airport!
Thank you
Nice video, I also liked the music. I have never flown from Bristol, but a relative has with KLM to Amsterdam on a Fokker 70, which KLM no longer use and have replaced with Embraer.
Robert Mansfield thanks, really glad to hear you enjoyed it. AMS is the #1 destination from BRS... plenty of pax on connecting flights for klm!
I have never flown with KLM myself. I mostly fly with Easy jet or BA, although I can recommend Lufthansa, and have flown with them a couple of times from LHR.
I've had good experiences with KLM - both in SH and LH. I am building airmiles with Lufthansa so you may well see a flight review coming. Just waiting for the right deal on reward flights in business.
Thank you very much. Will have a connection flight in 2 days with them. BRU to EMA. And was not sure what will happen to my hand luggage (business class). But u covered everything important in ur video. Carry-on luggage, food complimentary etc... Thank you very much for this informative video
Thank you very much. I hope you have a great trip 😀 feel free to share your experience on here
How was the flight?
@@lewisdwyer1536 Was good. As I expected, had to give them my cabin luggage to load into the plane. The cabin of such an Embraer is really small. I had the first seat in the plane. I was flying business class but there is actually no difference between business and economy for this flight. It was just a short connecting flight anyway (ca. 50 min). All in all, I would recommend it. Really fast from Brussel to East Midlands.
@@naturalforest2265 ahhh good cos I'm going to Uni in Loughborugh and I wanna give the route a try
I remember flying back from Bristol (after 4 years working in financial services) to Paris CDG in October 2003. Only to move back to the UK (this time London) in early 2004. It was most definitely an Embraer but with propellers. Very, very small aircraft and cabin. 1 seat in each aisle. Much smaller than the one in the video. Bristol airport has hardly changed....what I had found very odd was the runway at Bristol, it sloped!
Thanks for watching
Great trip report keep up the good work 👍
Thanks. Much appreciated :-)
It’s such a shame to see them gone. I did my work experience with them when I was 15. First day I was in the offices at ABZ, second day I was in the flight management offices which monitors every single one of their planes flying in Europe. On the 3rd day I flew on the jump seat in the cockpit with the pilots from ABZ-EBJ and then back EBJ-ABZ. On my final day, I spent it in the hangar at ABZ. I had such a wonderful experience. Really sad to see what has happened now
Thanks Alex. I can't think of a better work experience!!!! fantastic, thank you so much for sharing
Did this work experience inspire you to choose the travel industry?
Speedbird1 FLY Yes it did, but I’ve always wanted to work in planes. I’ve been saying since I was 2 that I’ll become a pilot. I flew so much in my life, because of my dads job I’ve lived abroad most of my life. I’m not that good at math, so I’m starting my course to pass my cabin crew attestation !
Alex Vignau excellent. All my best wishes for this exciting venture and all the great trips it would open for you 😀👍🤞
@@Speedbird1FLY Thank you so much !
Great video mate! Enjoyed the music choice.. BMI is wuite interesting.. Seats look quite comfortable.. Thought aboutnflying them as well soon.. Sadly flights from/to Hamburg are often canceled somehow.. We have also some domestic flights here in Germans (MUC-RLG, STR-RLG i think) but those are pretty expensive.. Anyway enjoyed that video.. Keep it up!
Thanks mate. Always nice to hear from loyal followers like you and yes I found the seats quite comfortable. Sorry to hear about the cx from Hamburg. As bmi regional (or now flybmi.com) targets routes where they identify needs from the local business community this enable to get higher prices. Keep an eye on any sales. Any other regional airlines you enjoyed?
+Speedbird1 FLY +Flight Time
Oh I can tell you a thing or two about the cancellation from HAM. In February I flew HAM - BRS - (via. FRA) HAM and they just canceled the return leg to Hamburg due to crew shortage at base BRS. This cancellation was rather inconvenient for me because I was rebooked on a flight via FRA with LH that arrived in HAM at elven PM. Not that I have a problem with the late hour arrival, however I had to attend class that day after, so you can image that was quite tired after all that mess and two hours of waiting for the connecting flight. But to be fair, BMI Regional did a great job on the organization of the immediate rebooking. 😁 Furthermore, it is always a pleasure to fly with Lufthansa 😆
I'm so sorry to hear that and both of you had the same experience at Hamburg! Still you kept a positive approach despite the very late arrival time. I'd like to fly with Lufthansa again... I am building up airmiles with them and just waiting for a reward ticket deal I may be interested in. Stay tuned :-)
+Speedbird1 FLY We’ll at least I tried 😊 Yeah, LH offers outstanding opportunities to collect some miles! 😁 Because LH only operates a wide range of destinations from FRA and MUC, I fly Eurowings from and to HAM (my hometown). Did you already fly with Eurowings? It’s a superb airline 😋☀️
*Well
R.I.P. Flybmi
A very sad end for BMI
Wow! Just discovered your channel and I have to admit: damn your trip reports are good! Really well done 💪🏻✈️
Rupert thank you so much . It's ever so nice to read such nice feedback. and I equally enjoy discovering and learning from other trip reports. So many great people on here
Speedbird1 FLY Hahaha 😂 Thanks! I appreciate your acknowledgment 🙃 I recently launched my very own RUclips channel ☺️ Sounds crazy, I know... But now I can understand how hard it is to produce a video and meeting a decent quality standard. 😇 Thus, I am still resolving on how use an editing program the way it’s supposed to be used 😂😁
Great Review mate! The cabin looks really comfy and good to see full service. I actually flew them quite a bit when they had extensive services to Heathrow but this interesting - what were the prices like? From what I’ve seen they’ve always been really expensive. Always enjoy your reviews :)
Thank you and I always enjoy getting your great feedback. I waited for one of their sales to grab a good one way fare to CDG - I can't remember the exact fare as I booked a few months ago (I took a National Express bus from LHR to Bristol for £2! The bus from Bristol city centre to the airport was more expensive: £8 lol ). I also have good memories of BMI. I was gold with them for a while - as I used to fly with them and other Star Alliance airlines from LHR. Have you tried other regional airlines?
Speedbird1 FLY Sounds good! I’ve flown nearly the all major carriers but not a lot of regional carriers such as Air Malta, Air Corsica etc. Would be an interesting experience but unfortunately the connectivity isn’t that great.
That's true - always interesting to discover new airlines. I had a really good experience with Air Corsica and wish them good luck for their new service from/to STN. I like to keep an eye on new airlines too
Amazing video mate
Thank you so much. The last few days have been so busy. I am glad I managed to release it for the weekend :-)
I flew with bmi baby a few times
What was your experience like?
@@Speedbird1FLY I can't really remember, I was only 5 or 6 years old and at that age, I was so excited by flying that i didn't really care about what the service was like. And flying was such an infrequent experience for me, i didn't have standards to compare it to. But whenever my Nan flew over to us or we flew over to her (from Birmingham to Ireland west airport knock), we always flew with bmi baby so it must have been pretty good because my family always look to get their moneys worth, and if they're not happy with a service then they'll do someting about it. We always had other options but we chose bmi because they were a good quality service and took care of their customers. But that's all i remember
@@SimonSNB Thanks far sharing... A great experience. your family's loyalty to BMI baby is reassuring. I have found memories of my early flying experiences.
wow...beautiful Video
Thanks Thomas. So nice to hear you enjoyed watching it. I greatly enjoyed the flight with bmi
PS: you have some really cool video of trams on your channel. (as a coincidence, my most recent video is of the tramway in Tenerife). A topic you may also enjoy
Shame they have gone bust now 😭
Indeed, a really good airline. Fly BMI managed to tap into niche routes.. challenging times for airlines. Cobalt, Germania, Primera... and others at risk
Nice vid👍 I subscribe channel✈ Greets
Thanks Piwo. Really appreciate
Speedbird1 FLY You welcome
They went bust
Worrying news indeed: www.aviation24.be/airlines/flybmi/brink-of-collapse-bankruptcy-insolvency/
And now official. How sad :-(
i just hope bmi and other airlines sue the fuel industry for billions for selling them air that just goes in them wings as they sure dont fly with fuel or the amount of volume they charge
It's soo expensive!..and that 'free' snack becomes not so free after all. Also this so called 'all inclusive' nonsense will be this companies downfall.
Hi, thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Unbundling can be indeed a very good way to offer attractive fares. This "low" price can soon creep up once you add bag(s), seat selection etc
I've enjoyed some of these low fares while travelling for a weekend breakOn this occasion bmi's fare was lower than EasyJet so certainly the best option for me. I also managed to part pay the airfare with Avios (from the Avios shopping loyalty scheme before it closed down) which made the airfare even more attractive :-)
And 4 months later I was right LOL
Too much ‚fast forward‘ ...
Thanks for your feedback. I'll bear that in mind for future video. Looking at the viewing stats, audience tends to prefer fast paced videos
Speedbird1 FLY try to include full take off in normal speed 👍
