    Hey Smartie! Quiet watcher here. I love that you tell us what day it is. Makes the vlog feel more personal.

    As an elementary teacher, I am so thankful for my principal. She also gives us the Wednesday off from meetings before grades are due. It is so needed!!!

      It's really not that hard to be considerate like that. We need more like minded administrators.

    Thank you for being as authentic as you are comfortable being, thanks for vlogging, thanks for the updates, thanks for getting out of bed and doing the best you can with what is given to you, thanks for being relatable as well. Take care and be well.😊

    Good for you! “No thank you” is one of the best forms of self care. Somehow in schools it seems that the end and start of the school year are squeezing further into the summer breaks so doing nothing or whatever you choose should be a priority.

    This school year has been an interesting year for me too. The tiredness is real and now i am already counting down the weeks. I am very proud of you.

    It's interesting, at least on my campus, that PLCs are cancelled for MANY "reasons" under the sun, but when teachers ask for the same, it's non-negotiable. 🤔🤔🤔

    • @SmartieStylelr
      @SmartieStylelr  10 месяцев назад +1

      Same on my campus when admin. wants to cancel it. We had one cancelled before for a fundraiser assembly, but we can get one cancelled so we can finalize grades? Seems a little backwards to me.

    I’m proud of you for declining the summer trip/work! Burnout is REAL. Perimenopause is REAL. You absolutely HAVE to take care of YOU! You need to rest this summer. Relax. Take care of yourself.

    You do such a great job as a teacher! It is a thankless job, that's for sure. I've been retired since 2008. Don't think I could do it now. 🤦🏻‍♀️

    Hi Latonya, I have been a long-time viewer and I love your new brows. You have inspired me to get mine done, and I am also loving the results. Additionally, I hate that your school, along with many others across the nation, isn’t recognizing the value of your work. They expect you to work for free and use your time without compensation. Stop giving so much of yourself. While the kids may suffer, it will ultimately preserve your health. You contribute so much to your school, and you deserve to be compensated for your time and effort. If they want you to be a dynamic teacher, then they need to invest in it.

    I applaud you for making a choice for you. I find myself saying yes way more than my colleagues and will feel some type of guilt if I actually do decline a request. It's definitely a mindset adjustment to feel okay with taking care of oneself. So thanks for sharing because your story helps me reflect on my own life balance.

    I'm happy that you are putting your well-being first this summer. I was going to teach summer school for the much needed paycheck, but decided to not buy anything I don't need, spend more time close to home, and just exercise, read, relax, and organize.
    That will set me up for a better 24'-25' school year.

    A big feature of both perimenopause and burnout for me are a complete intolerance of small hiccups - the fury just wells up! Or the tears! And it's really tiny things, not even as large as my email not letting me in... so much empathy!

    I agree, we can't get anything accomplished in CBPL. We have CBPL every day unless our Instructional Specialist is in a meeting or absent. We don't meet the day grades are due.

    As an elementary school teacher , I totally agree with you about principals giving some time to finalize grades. I work at school where we have PLC meetings 4 out of 5 days of week with minimum prep time. I am currently exhausted.

    Thank you for wanting to show students that being educated is not corny and you do not lose cool points because you know the right answer to questions the teacher asks in class. Kids really need to understand that they are only selling themselves short by not giving it their best and if you need help, ask for it. Asking questions does not make you stupid. I could go on and on with this one, but like I said, thank you.

    In my district everyone gets 375 mins a week for prep. Most teachers (no matter the grade level) get time every day. In elementary we get 65 mins a day. We get 1/2 days usually at the end of every quarter.

    And this is why I need to get out because I am going to lose it. I am blessed to have a wonderful administration but it’s everything else… parents, kids coming in lower, the blame game, paperwork, data analysis where it’s all our fault, etc…. I don’t know how to feel any more!!! 😢

    Maybe they’re [teen boys] not seeing the examples shown when it comes to interacting with adults. Yes, they’re going through puberty but that’s not an excuse for adults to permit rudeness or disrespect towards adults and peers. (I’m not implying that’s what you’re doing nor the administrators of the school. But giving them verbal direction a lot of times goes in one ear and out the other. They need to see “lead by example”.

    Just because a principal can have structured meetings, does not mean that he or should when teachers have to work on their grades. Have administrators forgotten about something called the gift of time? February is such a draining month because there are too many things to accomplish in a short amount of time. A true principal is a master teacher and not a master of teachers. Thank you for your video presentation. Take care.

    …and this is why so many people are leaving Education. Too many meetings and not enough time for planning. No one should have to take work home on the weekends. I’ve been doing this for 21 years. A few more years and my kids will graduate from high school and I’m done with it! I hate when black folks say things like that. Just because you want more out life you have to be an Oreo or if you have white friends you’re an Oreo.🙄 BTW does your coffee warmer really work. The warmer I have doesn’t work good.

    • @SmartieStylelr
      @SmartieStylelr  10 месяцев назад +1

      My warmer works pretty well. I haven't used it all year, but it worked well when I was using it consistently. Looking forward to getting back to using it.
