I’ve just now heard about this today on RUclips. I’ve just started hiking and wanted something I could use on a daily basis if necessary. As we have seen what has happened in Texas after the winter storm of February 2021. This could be used to clean water in urban neighborhoods. My girlfriend got sick using the straw in a creek sadly. I refused to do it thank goodness. Keep up the great job of educating the people.
Another great video and great review, and in good time too. I was wondering what the differences were with my current grayl and you just answered it all. Thanks for being back and hope you keep posting videos more frequently
Thank you. The fact that you own all those other systems lends credence to your opinion and observations. I just ordered the Grayl Geopress straight from their website. Can't wait to use it!
Thanks for that. I've spent a lot of money on filters over the years and the Grayls are the ones I use almost exclusively now. I've never had a problem with them.
Thank you for that very good review. It's a well thought out product. I've complained long and hard about "bugs" only filters, and most companies put most of their effort into them even though many people trek the outdoors in urban areas. From a preparedness standpoint most of us will be dealing with urban challenges.
I love the MSR trailshot. It doesn’t totally purify water, but it is fast and limits the possibility of cross contamination about as much as any system out there can while being pretty light. I’m one of those people who loads up my hydration bladder before I head out, so I rarely get to use it. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Great water products! I remember your video on the other bottle filter. So nice to see you again! Have a great rest of the weekend! Be safe and God bless
One less thing to think about! One thing I forgot to mention is that it also makes the water taste really good. It’s good for traveling if you’re stuck drinking hotel sink water.
I started deploying these (older Grayl) bottles in my GO/Emergency bags. I even keep one at work with the travel filter. But since they are plastic, you are restricted to the filter (no boiling or putting near a fire). I just ordered a Mizu 360. Cost is a less (got mine for $55) but filters run about the same and have almost the same life. Except Mizu claims the filters do not expire unlike Grayl's 10 year shelf life. The reason I thought I'd move to the Mizu's was simple. They are STAINLESS STEEL therefore, you can boil water if needed. I rather not have to carry a separate stainless cup/cookware for water if I can use the cup. Grayl use to have a stainless bottle but they no longer produce it, that i can find. Nice video and thanks for the reviews.
The first grayl has the same cross contamination issue as you mentioned with the sawyer mini... if your hands aren't clean when pushing the filter and inner container down you can get the same bacteria in the already filtered water... that is why I ordered the geopress, it does add a extra protection from users error
Sounds like a really good product. Added this to my wishlist. I had giardia before and believe me $100 isn't much to pay to avoid that lol Thanks for the great info 🗡🔥🐎
Question: How do I store it after using for a vacation? We went to a month long vacation in Asia and I used it for my whole family. Now I don’t use it anymore until the next vacation. Will the filter get damaged or get molds inside since it got wet?
There's really nothing to it. Just rinse the parts under cold tap water and let air dry. When it doesn't let you press down anymore it's time for a new filter element which just screws on. Easy peasy.
Great informational video! Thank you so much! I travel 3 months a year in developing countries. I would like to switch from bottled water to drinking the local tap water. Do you think it is safe to boil water (when possible) and then use this Geopress water purifier filter to remove any heavy metals or remaining viruses/bacteria? I'm concerned these are good for a few weeks but not ideal for long term use when filtering unsafe local tap water. I understand I'll have to change the filters and more than likely won't get sick. But more concerned on the impact to my long term health.. Love to hear your opinion? Peter
Peter, thank you for watching and commenting! I think your idea of boiling then purifying is a good one. Just make sure the water has thoroughly cooled back to room temperature before running it through the Grayl (or any filter/purifier) or you will ruin it. If you're going someplace where the water is really bad bring another filter element with you just in case it clogs. I replace mine annually just to be on the safe side but the water is not too bad where I live. For you, I would err on the side of caution. Happy trails. !
I’ve been using these purifiers for nearly 2 years now and have yet to have a clog. If the water is really brackish or muddy you can always pre-filter through a bandanna.
The Berkey Sport is an excellent purifier but for me it has 2 limitations: the bottle itself is very small and you need to suck the water out through the straw that's integrated into the cap. That makes it less convenient to share water or use it for other purposes.
Oh sorry. I own both and rate them both highly, but they have different uses. The Grayl is a portable purifier and the Berkey is a gravity-fed tabletop design for larger quantities. Depending on what your needs are you can’t go wrong with either.
@@weekendwanderer5514 well I will use it for travel and go to work so that's are my need so what do you think ? And an other important thing is the price also so let me please
Great to see a new video from you,the kit seems a bit pricey but it's got to be better than catching AIDS or something ghastly.🤣. A great video all round.👍. All the best, Bri.
@@weekendwanderer5514 but then you would be accused of being a company shill. I take a lot more notice of a review where the reviewer paid out his own cash for the item, he can then review without caring what the manufacturer thinks and it will be an honest review.
I've always admired the thoughtfulness you bring to bear when reviewing a piece of gear. Thank you, sir.
Thanks so much. I buy everything with my own money so I can be brutally honest!

One of the reasons I like this unit is that it's a water purifier, not just a filter. Perfect for emergencies. I recommend the larger size.
Excellent discussion...I pulled the trigger on the ultralight after watching this. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Cool. Always good to hear about new items, especially ones that make things more convenient when hiking or camping. Good to see you again!
Thanks Chris. I love these purifiers. Nice to hear from you. Hope all is well!

Because of your video I bought the older Grayl model and it is great indeed. Thanks for this new video!
I will continue to use the older model as well. There's nothing wrong with it!
Same here

I agree. The other filters are lighter, but that's about their only advantage.

The MSR is a great filter and is so light it's a joy to carry. I just like the peace of mind a purifier gives me over a filter. Stay well.
Bought it! Love your videos. Good info and fun! Thanks.🙂
Thanks. Stay well!
Thank you. Great info. I am a day hiker & novice and appreciate your advice..
Thanks. Happy trails!
What a neat purifier. Will definitely look into it. As always, great video friend
Thank you my friend. Both purifiers are well worth it.
Good to see you again ! Missed you excellent videos.
Thank yoy my friend.
good info must look into this, nice to see you posting again
Thank you my friend. More to come!
Great demo and comparisons. Thanks and take care.

Thank you my friend! I was perfectly happy with the other Purifier but this one is amazing .Stay well.
Thank you
Informative, I keep looking for the perfect filter, it hasn't been made yet...Thanks !
This one is damn close!
Good review ! I my area it’s chemicals and heavy metals !! Will be looking in to this Product ! Many Thanks !
Most of the others don’t do chemicals at all. The Grayl is perfect for you.
Nice video 👍👍
it’s nice to see you made new video.
I've been lazy, 😆
Now there is a filter I have not seen before, Interesting, I like that it purifies as well, one simple filter to take care of everything

Giardia is no joke! Most filters are good but these purifiers are on a whole other level.
I just bought one. It's the best filter. Just drank out of the river. :)
It’s still my favorite.
Thank you 👍🏾👍🏾✌🏾
Good review. Thank you.
I have been researching water filters for my bug out bag.
I have decided on the Grayl as being the best for me.
Me too. It's a great purifier.
It’s a great thing when weekend wanderer releases a new video! Good to see you my friend.
Appreciate that! Stay well.
Thnxs for uploading and sharing
Best purchase I’ve made for the trail in my life. Nothing happens without water...
Heart of Lions Can’t argue with that!
good review! good to see you.
Thanks my friend. Been lazy!
the geopress is a pretty good filter but it doesn't do much at all for hard water, according to my TDS (total dissolved solids) meter.
Why would it?
Love it it's the only filter I use now. It takes out everything. Much better than the sawyer and others. The berkey takes out everything as well.
The Berkey Sport bottle is also a purifier and is a good choice.
Will the Grayl Geopress water purifier filter out fluoride? Does anyone know?
Question: How do I store it after using for a vacation? We went to a month long vacation in Asia and I used it for my whole family. Now I don’t use it anymore until the next vacation. Will the filter get damaged or get molds inside since it got wet?
I usually push some chlorinated tap water through it and then let it air dry. Haven't had any problems with mold yet.
Eyy another video
Can you make a video on how you clean the Grayl after use?
There's really nothing to it. Just rinse the parts under cold tap water and let air dry. When it doesn't let you press down anymore it's time for a new filter element which just screws on. Easy peasy.
These would be very useful in poor countrys where drinking water is not aviable
Absolutely, especially if they can get the price down.
Will it filter out chemicals that would found in urban area rivers and streams?
For the most part. Have a look at the Grayl website for a complete list.

Has this filter been tested in muddy water? I just wonder if the filter clogs easily.

@Weekend Wanderer do you think this one is better then the go berkey wich i don't see in the video but i'm sure you know witch i'm talking a bout

Rady Rais I think the Grayl would suit your needs then. The Berkey is more than three times the price and is way too big for travel.

I'm going to India and was thinking of getting this for my trip there. I'm not going on a luxury trip.
My friend, if I were you I would definitely bring one to India. Maybe even two, in case I lost one!
All has cross contamination issues even Grayl.
