if only console players could enjoy it basically at the beggining of the game we console boomers (or whatever lol) have to go through hard mode in order to get the titan glove so then we can have auto swing. still fun tho :D especially with the north pole ("its good with auto swing trust me" man who barely used the north pole with auto swing)
The feral glove is so annoying to get. It's practically required for late pre-hardmode/early hardmode summoner but you have to either get lucky and find it in a chest or fish it up. It is on expert/master mode at least.

If im not mistaken, spears were prolly more often used in mediaval combat compared to swords, and swords or daggers were secondary weapons, and you are more likely to lose to someone with a spear or even with staff if you used a sword against them, too bad spears dont get as much love as they deserve, litterally one of man's most used weapons throughout history Also I guess the Starlight is more of a spear than a sword by the game's definition

Finding a spear early game is always the highlight of early prehardmode for me. Basically a cross through corruption free pass since you can knock back the eaters indefinitely.
God I LOVE Spears in this game...This one is a nice upgrade to the Copper Shortsword, and while it has low damage, it's fun to just attack and slowly back off at the same time

I still remember my first playthrough of Terraria back in 1.2.(?) - that Zealous Spear was a lifesaver while I was trying to survive the first few nights. The knockback and tendency to deal multiple hits kept enemies at bay as I whittled down their health. It will always hold a special place in my heart.

Trust me or not but the spear is really a chad starting weapon. What I mean that it is able to knockbacks enemies 3 times in a single activation making it impossible for walking and average speed enemies to Reach you. That's why i think the spear is starter ultimate
Depends on what you want/need. To kill enemies quickly, low knockback would serve you best, but high knockback makes the spear a defensive tool that lets you keep the enemy far enough to use other powerful, low knockback, single target attacks, such as bows. Using as bow as a primary weapon, a low damage, high knockback spear can be a lifesaver if you find yourself cornered against a wall. If you dislike the spear, odds are you are looking at it wrong.
Unironically, as a melee enjoyer, spears are amazing when they're the best you got in-between ranged swords. Never thought of fighting twins with anything other than durandal (light disk what's that?)
Fun fact: if you mod the spear to be auto swing, the hitbox doesn't despawn Meaning that you can stack infinite hitboxes around you every time you swing it
The first time I played Terraria, I had a hard time surviving. Then I found the Spear, and everything went so much smoother. If I had never found that Spear, I don't think I would have fallen in Love with Terraria.
This actually makes me feel joy, I remember when I first played terraria, I started on my Xbox, and I looted a chest with a spear in it, and it was godly. I gotta edit this: it was before journey mode so that’s out of the way. Edit II: I didn’t know at the time about modifiers, so I thought it was literally a god’s spear.

No need to worry about magic and enchanted weaponry when you can always fall back on one of history's most reliable weapons, the stabby stick.
Perfect for getting rid of that pesky zombie or demon eye out of your house. Or just stun locking certain slow enemies.

spear is really good for exploring early on, though. it let me go spelunking for over an hour, and the only death was to fall damage

theres a mod on the 1.4 tmod loader beta that lets you throw them.
it also lets you swing normally only throwable spear like weapons (ex, bone javs.)
I've done a spear-only run on expert mode, it's physically painful. I do not recommend it.
