TheShaddydogg I had an opportunity last weekend to push it out farther than any other attempt... got it out to an honest 2000 ft! I believe I could have got a little more out of it but I was weary of my battery life as I had already been up for 5 minutes before my try.
I haven't studied the CGO2 camera in any details to see what kind of antenna it has or where it is situated, but it is very apparent to me that it gets the best reception at long distance in a "tail in" orientation. At the 2000 ft mark, it wanted to drop the video while flying back with the aircraft pointed at me.

Beautiful Video! What an incredible place to film. Regarding the FPV lag time, I take it you had line of site during the entire flight or do you take chances based on obvious obstacles like the bridge you flew up to and then flew over. I would guess you would crash into the bridge before you knew it if using only FPV correct? Based on the lag time it would appear you would only really want to use it to frame your shots unless you are flying in a totally open area correct? Thank you for your for sharing your expertise!

High Flyer
Most of this was line of sight...although it got far enough out at times that I couldn't distinguish front from back, so at that point I was using the camera to help orient the quad. Like you mentioned, the video display is mostly for framing the shot.
The tight areas, like around the bridge, I tried to place myself in a position where I could easily see the quad in relation to the obstacles - yet stay out of the shot.

Love the images keep them coming! I notice that you use the Phantom Vision and the Yuneec Q500. I am looking to purchase my first aircraft to produce stable high quality video. Which platform would you recommend?

John Parker John, here is a comment I made recently when asked the same question. Thought I would save the typing....LOL.
"I would say I have an equal liking based on their strengths.The Phantom Vision is a fun flyer. Its quite a bit more nimble and much more responsive than the Typhoon (in GPS mode). I also like the Vision's user interface and real time selectable camera options. The latency of the FPV on the Vision is certainly the better f the two.
The Q500 is SUCH a great out of the box video aerial video platform. The 1080/60fps camera and 3 axis gimbal are in near perfect harmony with the big, rock-steady air frame of the Typhoon. It certainly is not a speed demon, but the slower response and easy transitions make the video all the better."
The only thing I would add, John, is that the Q500 is certainly not made for true FPV due to the excessive video lag. Another thought...the Vision or Vision+ will each shoot 1080p, but truly only at 30fps & will only shoot 60fps at 720p (although this looks great!). The Typhoon is true 1080p/60fps... and its sooooo nice!
