- This is how to upgrade your PS4 Games to free versions of PS5 games, there are a limited number of supported games but a nice feature to have.
I have described how to upgrade PS4 Mortal Kombat 11 Disc version to PS5 Digital version but you still need the original PS4 disc to play the game. Also make sure you have the correct region to match your Playstation Account.

Hi, thanks for watching. sorry for the delayed response. It's a great question and I do not remember testing this though I see no reason why it shouldn't work in the PS4 as normal because either way you need to have the disc in the console to play so since it will only be used once at a time I think it might work fine, and the fact that you can switch between PS5 and PS4 version on PS5 assumes that PS4 version should also still works on PS4. Hi, Thanks for watching. If you see in my video I am actually using the Standard game NOT Ultimate. The upgrade will get you Ultimate version WITHOUT expansion packs so you will still not get all the characters etc that come with Ultimate. So I bought the PS4 version of Mortal Kombat 11. The Ultimate Edition. It came with a free PS5 upgrade. On a code. I got a PS5 just recently. I put in the code before putting in the game. Then a couple weeks later I put in the Data disc and the game disc. But I never got the prompt of a free PS5 upgrade.
I also forgot to mention that I can't find it anywhere. Do you know where I could find that?

So when I upgrade to ps5 2 mk11 versions appeared in my ps5. What should I do?
Hi, Thanks for watching. I believe its possible you have both PS4 and PS5 versions installed, if you do not plan to play the PS4 version you can uninstall it. Hope that helps.

I have a question. I have a physical version on MK11 ps5 disc and I played it for a few hours. I noticed on the ps store that there was a free ps5 upgrade for the game and bare in mind I already have a mk11 ps5 disc and I downloaded it(instant) and I don't know if it changed anything. Graphics look the same so was the upgrade thing necessary?
Correction: If you upgrade from PS5 Disc version, a disc is still required to play the digital version. Not sure what the real benefit of the upgrade is in the case of owning a PS5 disc version, if anyone knows please share, thanks!
Hi, Thanks for watching. Ok that's interesting, I didn't know that you could upgrade the PS5 version of the game to the digital version. I don't see any real benefit of that other than you get to own the digital version as well, so maybe if you ever have 2 PS5's, you can play on both consoles if that would ever be a requirement. I think maybe just keep your disc safe so you don't need to use the disc when you play the game. I doubt there would be any real performance or graphics benefits of upgrading from PS5 Disc version to PS5 Digital version, however I believe there may be some minor improvements from PS4 to PS5 version. hope that helps and thanks for pointing this option out, hopefully others can benefit from this as well.

Sorry i wanted to make a correction, i might be wrong about not needing the disc, if its an Upgrade it will still need the disc to play and if thats the case it would be no real benefit, apologies for the confusion i just assumed it would be different if you owned a disc of the PS5 version, if you were able to upgrade and play without the disc please let us know, thanks!

I lost my MK11 disc the other day somewhere in my house and will I keep all my stuff if I buy a new MK11 disc of the oldest version
Hi, Thanks for watching. Did you buy the PS4 version or PS5 version of the game originally then upgrade to PS5 version? Was the original game Ultimate or Standard edition?
If you bought a PS4 version of the game and upgraded it to a PS5 version, So there is one thing we don't really know here and that is if the disc has some sort of special ID which is then tied to your version of the upgrade. I highly doubt this is the case and theoretically as long as you buy the same PS4 version of the game again and it detects the disc I believe it should work just fine.
Even if it needs to be upgraded again I doubt this will be an issue so probably not a big loss to buy another copy.
However if for example you had the PS4 Ultimate version and then buy the Standard edition I'm not sure if this will allow you to play the ultimate version.
Sorry I can't give a more definitive answer, but if I do come across some verified information I will let you know. You could possible contact the MK developer or even Sony and ask them this question. If you are able to find out please let us know so it can help other viewers as well. Hope this helps.

So I have seen reports of people having issues with progress, add-ons etc. I'm not too sure myself how that would work and couldn't find an explicit answer but are you currently playin on PS4 and are you signed in? If so I would recommend loading the game without upgrade on PS5 and sign in to see if Season Pass is still there. So i haven't tried recently but when i upgraded mine at launch, it allowed me to keep both versions of PS4 game and PS5 game installed at the same time. So if you have initially played the PS4 version I guess if you load that version it might still have all progress and add-ons if you happen to lose it in the upgrade process on PS5 version. I assume this might be same scenario if you have been playing PS4 version on PS5 and wish to upgrade, again just my understanding of how it is suppose to work, so hopefully it will be ok.

So although it appears to install the PS5 Ultimate version if you upgrade from the PS4 Standard version, the additional characters have to be purchased or you can buy the add-on packs. I think if you upgrade the PS4 ultimate version to Ps5 ultimate, it will include all the add-ons.

@@TKsTechTalk I upgraded my PS4 disc version of mk11 to my ps5 but when I downloaded all of my add ons and dlc’s and went into the game I was missing some dlc packs and even the mk11 story expansion even though it says “installed” I tried deleting all the add ons and adding one by one individually and I seem to have gotten everything back but the same problem happened again except this time it’s just the story expansion pack :/

I think I mentioned this in a previous comment but basically if you upgrade the 'Standard' version of the game you will not get the DLC, from what I understand if you upgrade the 'Ultimate' version you should get the DLC as well assuming it is part of the Ultimate edition. Hi, Thanks for watching. One important thing for game upgrades is that your game disc region and PSN account region should be the same. What region is your game? You can find this information on the back of the game packaging. If your game disc is not the same region as the game you will not be able to upgrade on the existing account. What you can do is create an additional PSN account which matches the region with your game disc and log in with that account. This should allow you to upgrade the game under the new account. The only downside of this method is that you will have to switch between accounts to play games which are under each account. Hope that helps.

What is that blue line on your screen?
Unfortunately that blue line is a defect in my TV. I have had it for about 4 years and it has developed some pixel damage along that line. Nothing to do with the PS5 its there for any content.
When I put the disc in it just says it cant read the disc

If you have issues will all discs could be the laser on the Blu-ray drive otherwise if its just the one disc might have a problem with the disc itself, can try in someone else's console to verify. Hi, thanks for watching. So even though it does update to Ultimate, it looks like you can only use the expansion pack characters if you upgrade from the Ultimate version. The only other way is to purchase the expansion packs which are included with Ultimate. I think they really should have just done a like for like upgrade to not confuse people, because it is misleading. Hope that helps.

Hi, Thanks for watching. I believe this is also part of the expansion so I doubt it will work unless you buy the expansion packs. This seems to be the case with all expansion related characters. If you buy the Ultimate version and upgrade I think you will get all the expansion packs which are included with Ultimate, if Aftermath is part of that should work. If you upgrade the standard unfortunately even though it says Ultimate, you do not get access to any expansion pack and have to purchase separately. Hope that helps.
