Rebirth anyone less than A is criminal. It’s an easy S for me and my favorite game of the year by far. Got the plat and loved every minute of its story, gameplay, and even most of the mini games.

God of War Ragnarok. While the Atreus sections weren't great, the free Valhalla DLC ended Kratos's story in a truly interesting way
It’s my favorite game in the series and have been playing them all since the first. Totally understand the criticism of those sections but people oversell their impact on the whole game.
Also Stellar Blades soundtrack means it deserves a higher rank.

With Horizon, it wasn't the Internet being the big bad, it was like an AI construct of all the space people, they tried to make themselves immortal by putting their minds into machines and it drive the AI construct things insane and angry

Wait what? WHAAAT!? You say FF7 Rebirth is a bloated disaster, but you’re happy with FF16!? Duuude…you say you dunno how people can say FF7 Rebirth is a masterpiece…well I don’t know how you can rate 16 so high yet think Rebirth is so much worse.
So much of the “bloat” is optional. It’s not bloat. It’s side content. If you really want the most out of this game and its characters, world building etc…you’ll do the side stuff. If not, focus on the story and you’ll get whatever you need out of part 2 of this trilogy.
The variety in content in Rebirth is staggering. STAGGERING! And I hope the third part is the same. Loved it and it is definitely a masterpiece IMO.

I get what Scott says. You can love something and recognize that it isn't perfect. Or you can hate something and recognize that it is an achievement. Like My favorite film isn't the same as what I consider the best film ever made.
I don’t agree with either list. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is S+. It’s the best PS5 game. Rift Apart, Horizon FW, GoW Ragnarok, SM2, FFXVI round out the S tier.
If the Horizon & GOW sequels were the first release for the franchise they would be revered just like the actual 1st versions are. If the 1st versions came out after then folks would moan about how they took a step back. Not saying I don't prefer the originals over the sequels myself but I just think Scott's take shows how a lot of modern gamers take current games for granted. Especially Sony"s 1st party titles. .
Right? Like to me GoW:R and Spiderman 2, and Horizon 2, they are all AT LEAST as good as the originals honestly if not better in quite a few ways for each of them. I don't really get where the "hate" comes from for some the aspects of them.. when they are al extremely high quality
I completely agree. I feel like this backlash is highly dependent on the studio, though. Seems like people like to attack Sony 1st Party sequels for the same thing that every other sequel does when games like Tears of the Kingdom are praised. And it’s mainly the internet gamer ragers rather than people who have actually played said games.

Dude Gran Turismo 7 is the GOAT of racing games and deserves S tier
I LOVED FF16. The boss battles, the story, the characters. Invested so much into that game, and I loved the side content. That’s just me. Hell listening to this video makes me want to replay FF16, it’s happening.
Well, I think A LOT of FF16 is great.. the pacing is very odd I would say. As in, it would be very very fast and high octane.. and then very very slow and sluggish.. and it didn't necessarily balance it well always. Still I had a good time, I just don't know if I'd 100% it again, as in go through all the side quests, some of which aren't really good at all or are just boring, but would zoom through the story because the actual story and everything is generally good. Like I said, just the pacing really is what I have a problem with

Being mad at Returnal because it is hard doesn't make it lowest tier.
Rebirth is amazing. People judge it based on the last 10 hours and forget the fantastic moments they had along the way. Also people forget its the second game in a trilogy, their expectation for clarity was totally misplaced haha. Game of the decade for me. Forbidden West is way better than people give credit for.

Scott Telford!!!!!! You’re a CRAZY MAN! I loved Horizon Zero Dawn, I got it a little late I bought the complete version and completely fell in love with it. I preordered Forbidden West, which I rarely do, (over the last few years my preorders were, Forbidden West, Cyberpunk, and Elden Ring.) I absolutely loved FW. I think it’s’S’ tier without a doubt. I think it improved on every system it had in ZD, I loved bringing the character together and Alloy truly learning she can’t do all this alone. I don’t think it’s Disney writing at all, there’s no stakes in disney outings anymore, in FW we lose a main character in a shocking way. There are a few games I can play over and over and never get bored, (ocarina of time, Res 4, star fox 64, new Vegas and FW is getting there.)

Only just seeing this now and hard to take either list from these 2 seriously. Scott because some are just bad opinions. I mean I was crap at returnal but Can’t judge the game as a whole (though I didn’t finish) because i wasn’t that good. Thats a me problem. That game, even from someone who was rubbish and gave up, is nowhere near a D tier game. As for Josh well he’s been known to like some of the absolute worst games in past so it’s always hard to take most of his opinions when it comes to ranking stuff seriously as well. They are good together but their credibility has been low for a long time. More often than not Jules is the best one.
You could rank all the games Bioware made. Quite a few great ones there and another opportunity for Scott to bitch about the ending of ME 3. :D

Astro's playroom IS a game, but it is also a tech demo.. lol. If I had to suggest to someone "Play Astros or play Horizon/GoW etc.".. I would suggest playing Horizon/GoW as long as you aren't just a first time gamer

Pretty graphics do not equate to good games and the constant aim for higher fidelity is a major contributor to issues in the gaming ecosystem. You lose so much artistry making everything super real. I play games to escape.
If they are going to have 2 hour videos, this is way to do it, not just mashing up a bunch of old lists.

Hey guys so I’m getting a ps5 soon but I’m on a budget so what’s better to play ratchet and clank rift apart or ghost of tshumia
It depends in what you like. For example, ghosts of Tsushima is an action adventure open world kind of game, it will take you 20-25 hours to beat the main story, and ratchet and clank is a fast paced adventure shooter game. Both fun but it depends in what type of games you enjoy more 😊
This ps5 generation has been massively disappointing game wise. With a few exceptions like demon souls, ratchet and clank, jedi survivor and spiderman 2 most the good games also came out on ps4 as well so was there any point in me spending the best part of £500 to buy one just for the sake of 4 or 5 games when i could have just not bothered and bought most of them for my ps4 and saved almost £500
I think the thing with FF sales, especially Rebirth, people need to realize that it's a PS5 exclusive. The PS5 has not been able to sell as many units as the PS4 where Remake was released on.. There's a good reason that Remake sold 8 million in it's lifetime or something like that, it was towards the end of the PS4 lifecycle too. The PS5 has sold pretty good, but out of all the PS5's sold, not everyone is a FF fan even. The PS5 has sold about half as many total PS4s. And arguably it's less than that, that probably actually do like FF enough to drop 70$ on it. Then it's the naming convention that may have confused some people at first too weather this was the 2nd part to FF7RE.
But IMO this has nothing to do with the overall quality of the game. The overall quality, just from a pure objective viewing, is off the charts. In terms of combat, side quests and content, story, characters, options in general in the game and post game, is all really really well done.
Rebirth was the best selling physical in Japan for 2024 so far. It’s the 5th best selling physical game in America behind games which were available on multiple platforms. It sold well, which square did say, but not has high as Square wanted. Sony also helped a lot with the production, paid for the timed exclusivity and square said they managed to develop it more quickly focusing on one platform.
Some outlets spun that into it being a flop and haters eagerly gobbled up that narrative to moan about exclusives or that wasn’t the remake they wanted.
I’m the opposite to Scott -I thought Rebirth was a masterpiece but can admit that it has the faults which were mentioned. It’s just a game that is more than its parts with a lot of heart. It fully deserved its 92 % on metacritic. I did not enjoy 16 a lot, unfortunately, and felt overall, it was a step back for the franchise.
Rebirth is going to sell more when it releases on other platforms, plus upgrades for the ps pro, and again when part 3 comes out. Haters be damned.
Not in the unholy hell that is the gaming community are we having Ragnarok the #1 S tier game above all those others, the opening hour til Svartalfheim is great but then it's a bit dull for a bit and then after Alfheim everything goes from dull to bad to worse....

S - Final fantasy 16, Astros playroom
A - god of war ragnarok (would be S if it wasn’t for the Atreus sections), ratchet rift apart, rise of the ronin
B - kena, forbidden west, miles morales, GT7, rebirth, last of us
C - Spider-Man 2, sackboy
D - Forspoken, destruction all stars
Haven’t played but will - Returnal, stellar blade, demon souls
Haven’t played and won’t - foamstars, helldivers, fort solace, pacific drive
Spider Man 2 is better then Miles Morales and Rift Apart so Spider Man 2 should be at least A tier, it's better then 80%-85% of the games from the list. Astro's playroom is not even close to S tier. Should be B tier

For someone that played 90% of these titles these lists are REALLY hard to swallow. I guess the people that read scripts all day dont know or play as many of these games as we do. Take everything here with a large grain of salt because in the end this is just their "opinion"
Josh and Scott are avid gamers and play just about everything, and are for the most part really fair as journalists, they're not just script readers. Think these type of lists are always going to divide no matter who does them because it is as you said, opinions. Didn't agree with a few choices but that's the fun part 😅
Forespoken isn't that bad, the main character was annoying and the back and fore between her and cuff were also annoying but that was all, the gameplay was good and fast and the combat was also good. I wish TLOU2 would've been put lower down, I didn't like the first one either but with the second one, they added a robotic character who then killed off a massive character and didn't they make it less about the zombies?
forspoken was and is an atrocity. This is because the writing was asinine, the story setting was contrived and boring, the protagonist was moronic and unlikable, the performance was and is amazingly bad across all platforms, and the ending was plastered on the wall before the end of the 10th hour of gameplay. a literal waste of time and money by the corporations known as Luminous productions and Square Enix.
Scott sucks. This whole channel has been really hating on Sony lately.

God of War Ragnarok wasn’t divisive it was voted on Sonys own poll beating the 2018 game in fact it’s actually outpacing the 2018 game in sales and you didn’t even mention the Valhalla DLC which is one of the few examples of fan service done properly
Now if you want to talk about divisive games TLOU2 is right there, the sales of that game fucking cratered after a month

Objectively you can look at Returnal and see a highly polished, well running, well designed game, that yes…isn’t for everyone but still isn’t a “bad game”. It’s just not for you. D tier or lower should be reserved for bad games. Like Forsaken.
There’s also a difference between “bloat” and side content. If it’s optional, it’s hard to call all that extra content a bad thing. Same as FF7 Rebirth. And you cannot use bloat as a negative when it comes to Horizon, but say FF16 is your favourite game of last year. That games pacing was all over the place and felt bloated. Because it wasn’t necessarily optional content. You’d do an epic boss fight, only to do a whole bunch of other things to get to the next boss fight…and so on.
In Miles Morales you don't go to space.... Miles and the girl who I don't care for just go high in the air so the blast radius doesn't damage the city, but they don't leave the atmosphere or anything like that
