Amazing video, as always It’s incredible how Twenty Øne Piløts fits all the lore together, everything relates to another thing. I would note that perhaps the lyrics ‘you can bring the fire I can bring the bones’ and saying his bones will make the fire grow, might just mean the Torchbearer will start the revolution and Clancy will make it grow, by using Neds antlers to communicate with the citizens remaining in Dema. I think both paths are likely, and I love your theory that the real enemy is the cycle. There have been so many references to cycles, this era especially.
Never was too focused on the lore, but I'll drop this Lil prediction from what I picked up. Assuming dema and the bishops are meant to represent mental illness, they can never truly be defeated. The best any person can do is find equilibrium and put the thoughts and feelings the bishops represent on say a leash. It's also implied that the bishops weren't always an antagonizing force, like Keon and how he sides with the banditos. Perhaps there needs to be a new order of more compassionate bishops, with Clancy becoming one himself. Switching depression with melancholy/sobriety or whatever

In my personal opinion, I do think the ending will be relatively “positive”/breaking the cycle as I think that’s the message Tyler would like to give, but I could be wrong and don’t know everything. Still, this is a really great video, with a lot of points I totally agree with. There’s so many different layers to the story and it’s hard to decipher the most likely way to interpret anything, so great job with this!
No problem! Your videos have been on my radar for a while and I knew I wanted to promote your content in line with talking about Hometown so the people had an alternative perspective to turn to. It is very likely that the story could end positively, because I feel like it's difficult to take a story such as this and give it a satisfying ending that people also don't misconstrue the contextual meaning of. Yes. I’m tracking. It ending as a cycle makes total sense as the bishops (what they resemble) cannot actually be destroyed in its real-life equivalent. The “either destroy or become” is misleading, since once it’s destroyed something needs to take its place. Such a great vid! Getting exited for the end of the month w the line!!

Hometown has always been my favorite song, and I never noticed how much lore was behind it except for the bringing fire and bones part. I always thought Hometown was simply about coming from a depressing world and wanting to go back and change things and not much else. I did see nophunindema's video but other than that I still can't believe there was so much lore connection.

Maybe the cycle ends with him back in his hometown (Dema) as a bishop? Maybe Tyler fails to die in the fire, and the cycle restarts with him facing a new faction/version of the Banditos and a new Clancy. He tries to remold vialism in a way that suits his morals, and “hijacks” it himself, causing citizens to split away when they don’t agree. I doubt there’s a lot of evidence, but the thought is very entertaining.
@@circuitry400 the way I saw it was there were two routes and Clancy can make a choice: - He is consumed by the fire and the cycle restarts - OR, he chooses to become a bishop, taking Nico's place, and the cycle continues. But, your idea is very very similar to what I believe could potentially happen in the 'becoming a bishop' route to the point where it could just actually happen
this may be silly but as you talked about nico levitating and how nico is clancy i was reminded of "oh i know how to levitate up off my feet" from clancy...

I don’t know if you’ve seen Arcane, but it’s kind of a modern equivalent of a greek tragedy. It’s a common thing you might hear among Arcane fans that they just want to pretend everything will be fine, but we know it won’t because the show is a tragedy. Knowing Tyler felt inspired by Arcane and how it mirrors the dema story, maybe the dema story will have a similar ending. Either way I know that the end of both stories will break me 😭

12:12 Is it really an odd image? There are multiple visuals for Ride where someone is laying down looking up at trees. For the Emotional Roadshow one there are particles flying around that look like they might be ash flecks. And the lyrics of Forest may be tying in with the fire theme as well :)

Also, during the No Chances live performance Tyler's mask starts to smoke, which to me correlates to the ashy pattern on Clancy's mask. They also wear owl-eye glasses like in the Ride music video and the performance ends mentioning the few, the proud and the emotional just like the end of Paladin Strait.

Could it be Clancy needs to be one of the glorious gone to actually take out nico. Or could it be as Clancy evolves to nico then a new part of himself is born, like another Clancy. Creating a cycle but with flight changes each time as he evolves. Often people think I’m a top expert. But the credit goes to people like you . I’m just a sponge absorbing information with a few ideas here and there.

It explains, for instance, why both Vialism and the Banditos seems to be inspired in Simone Weil ideals. If every Bishop was once a Bandito, it makes perfect sense. Sometimes I really wonder how much of all of this is intricately engineered, how much is clever retcon of the older stuff, how much is intentionally vague so we can fill in the gaps and how much is us graping at straws. Because there is no way they had all of this planned out so many years ago but some of the older lyrics and imagery just fit so perfectly
I know Tyler has spoken about intending this story since the creation of Blurryface (see the Alt 97.8FM interview), with blurryface being the introduction to this character, so I feel comfortable in taking information from that album to add to theory crafting. It is difficult to know though, because it does feel like things are left vague whilst others have been retconned. I love how this era was meant to 'clear things up' but we're left with more questions than answers.

That is also something that's honestly been bugging me quite a bit; there isn't actually any information as to what Nico did during this time or how Clancy tricked Nico. Dmaorg doesn't even give crumbs to speculate on, let alone theorise. I hope we're given some information in the future.
I think you’re right; the cycle is the enemy. I want there to be a happy ending but the cycle restarting makes a lot of sense. I do think Clancy will die, but still not convinced Dema will burn. I think Clancy and the Banditos will try to burn Dema but the forests outside in Trench will burn instead. (Tyler, if you ever randomly stumble across this chat, for what it’s worth, please read Planet Narnia by Michael Ward and use it to inspire the next story and round of albums!!! Take us to Jupiter!!!)
Trench being collateral damage of the rebellion would actually be very in line with the warning given at the start of the era - they're flying by the bend symbol and ignoring all the warnings, warnings meant to protect them from harm.
Well, so what is the message then of the story if he lays down his life and lets Dema burn with him inside it? I know fire can represent purification, but he is still giving up his life. So how is this a good choice? What is the moral? Is this supposed to be a parallel to Simone Weil’s death?
Well, looking at it from a mental health perspective, the cycle restarting represents the nature of mental health and growth. There are some days where we win, only to go back to the beginning, and some days where things are worse and you lose those internal battles. I think it's less about sending a message and more about providing a snapshot into the internal struggles of the mental health cycle; it's a way to work through his own issues but also help others feel seen. But that's just my interpretation - the contextual questions surrounding the story are really up for interpretation because we haven't been given a definitive set meaning on what the story is meant to represent.

I haven't received your other questions yet so I apologise about not answering them in this comment but I'll answer the ones I've got. 5.) I mean, it's difficult to answer as to what the 'meaning' of a story is, because that is up to unique interpretation. What I will say is that, commonly across literature, a win or a loss does not define the meaning of a story. Losing does not make this story meaningless or redundant. To try and speculate on meaning, though, this story can be interpreted through the perspective of mental health, this whole battle representing the battle one has against their internal struggles. A loss, or the cycle restarting, merely represents part of how mental health works. Sometimes we have good days, sometimes we have bad. Healing isn't linear and neither are internal struggles. That is what I believe the story represents, it represents our mind, the nature of life and growth itself. We may be beaten down by our thoughts one day, but there is always tomorrow to try again. 6.) As for the title, I mean that it doesn't matter whether the Banditos 'destroy' the bishops or become them, they will always lose because the cycle continues and puts them all back in the position of fighting and trying to win again.

I’m wondering if it would be the symbol of purification, and allow the part of yourself that is impure to be refined by the torchbearers fire, and the restoration of how that purification leads to unconditional love and resurrection due to the sacrifice it entails to die that your fellow men should live? It feels like there is an important puzzle piece we need yet. I know not everyone wants there to be a Christ-like message, but look at how these boys live their lives. They are two of the best examples of how to be authentic followers of Jesus. Tyler collabed on worship songs in 2020, and said he had the idea for this storyline before he was even working with Josh, and might I say that back then, his songs were much more Christian in message… just sayin. These boys have high integrity and deep reverence for the way they live their convictions. They actually care about and love the people before anything selfish. Tell me another band that has done this successfully with a very mixed-belief fan-base if at all…

That is also something that's honestly been bugging me quite a bit; there isn't actually any information as to what Nico did during this time or how Clancy tricked Nico. Dmaorg doesn't even give crumbs to speculate on, let alone theorise. I hope we're given some information in the future.

I think you’re right; the cycle is the enemy. I want there to be a happy ending but the cycle restarting makes a lot of sense. I do think Clancy will die, but still not convinced Dema will burn. I think Clancy and the Banditos will try to burn Dema but the forests outside in Trench will burn instead.

Trench being collateral damage of the rebellion would actually be very in line with the warning given at the start of the era - they're flying by the bend symbol and ignoring all the warnings, warnings meant to protect them from harm.

Well, so what is the message then of the story if he lays down his life and lets Dema burn with him inside it? I know fire can represent purification, but he is still giving up his life. So how is this a good choice? What is the moral? Is this supposed to be a parallel to Simone Weil’s death?
Well, looking at it from a mental health perspective, the cycle restarting represents the nature of mental health and growth. There are some days where we win, only to go back to the beginning, and some days where things are worse and you lose those internal battles.
I think it's less about sending a message and more about providing a snapshot into the internal struggles of the mental health cycle; it's a way to work through his own issues but also help others feel seen. But that's just my interpretation - the contextual questions surrounding the story are really up for interpretation because we haven't been given a definitive set meaning on what the story is meant to represent.

I haven't received your other questions yet so I apologise about not answering them in this comment but I'll answer the ones I've got.
5.) I mean, it's difficult to answer as to what the 'meaning' of a story is, because that is up to unique interpretation. What I will say is that, commonly across literature, a win or a loss does not define the meaning of a story. Losing does not make this story meaningless or redundant.
To try and speculate on meaning, though, this story can be interpreted through the perspective of mental health, this whole battle representing the battle one has against their internal struggles. A loss, or the cycle restarting, merely represents part of how mental health works. Sometimes we have good days, sometimes we have bad. Healing isn't linear and neither are internal struggles. That is what I believe the story represents, it represents our mind, the nature of life and growth itself. We may be beaten down by our thoughts one day, but there is always tomorrow to try again.
6.) As for the title, I mean that it doesn't matter whether the Banditos 'destroy' the bishops or become them, they will always lose because the cycle continues and puts them all back in the position of fighting and trying to win again.

I’m wondering if it would be the symbol of purification, and allow the part of yourself that is impure to be refined by the torchbearers fire, and the restoration of how that purification leads to unconditional love and resurrection due to the sacrifice it entails to die that your fellow men should live?
It feels like there is an important puzzle piece we need yet. I know not everyone wants there to be a Christ-like message, but look at how these boys live their lives. They are two of the best examples of how to be authentic followers of Jesus. Tyler collabed on worship songs in 2020, and said he had the idea for this storyline before he was even working with Josh, and might I say that back then, his songs were much more Christian in message… just sayin. These boys have high integrity and deep reverence for the way they live their convictions. They actually care about and love the people before anything selfish. Tell me another band that has done this successfully with a very mixed-belief fan-base if at all…
